Muirfield Village Gets '13 Presidents Cup
As first reported by the AP last week, Muirfield Village will get the 2013 Presidents Cup. The PGA Tour made it official today and a press conference at the Memorial with Jack Nicklaus will detail the move. Muirfield Village held the Ryder Cup in 1987 and Solheim Cup in '98.
Muirfield Village will become the third course to host the Prez Cup on US soil, after RTJ in Northern Virginia did the honors for the first four times and Harding Park (soon to be PGA Tour owned?) did so in '09.
Nicklaus' Muirfield Village was intended to host a major one day, or have his Memorial tournament turn into one. While it never did turn out that way, Nicklaus' ode to Augusta National is widely respected and well-regarded. Perhaps this Prez Cup at Muirfield is a final thank you to Nicklaus.
At least, the Golden Bear may see it as that. He said in his press conference this morning, "[This will] probably be my last involvement in anything significant in the game of golf. So I'm looking forward to it and I hope that you all think it's something that's really going to be very, very special."
