Johnny Miller: Walking Quote Machine
Before Johnny Miller steps into the booth to work the US Open for NBC Sports, he took some time to visit the Lexus hospitality tent lining the 18th fairway at Pebble Beach.
Among some of the gems that he shared in his hour session:
- The hardest course that he ever played? You guessed it: Winged Foot in '74 - the site of the massacre there in response to Johnny Miller's final round 63 the year prior to win at Oakmont.
- On Ryo Ishikawa's pink outfit today? "He looks like Elton John on steroids."
- Miller accused the 20-something kids of playing "chicken golf," but said that Phil doesn't "because he's crazy."
- Doing us all a favor, perhaps, Miller said he told ESPN's Chris Berman to "be reverent [in the booth] because it's the US Open."
- In spite of his current problems, Johnny said he would give the "edge on [the title of] best player ever to Tiger Woods, over Nicklaus."
What's better? He's going to do a 9pm show where he works blue this again later in the week.

Usually, when you think of a “quote machine”, you think of someone who says things worth hearing. Miller is not worth hearing the first time – much less repeating in a quote.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I disagree, Court. He's great with words. He should just cut down on
“How’s this one gonna break, Roger?”
