Could the College Megaconference Have A Title Sponsor?
Remember how stunning it was when FedEx committed $35 million per season in a bonus pool designed to create playoffs in golf? FedEx jumped from a typical title sponsor to a new tier of investment in a sport. It proved that FedEx is willing to throw some cash around if it sees something that it wants.
Now that a plethora of schools are about to dissolve their unions and create new allegiances, the Memphis-based shipping giant is screaming, "What about us?!" A report by CBS Sports indicates that FedEx is willing to throw millions of dollars at any conference willing to let Memphis ride their coat tails. They're talking maybe $10 million per season to a conference.
In addition to the FedEx Cup, the company has naming rights to the Redskins' stadium just outside of DC and to the Memphis Grizzles' facility. Is it out of reach that FedEx would want to get a conference to entertain giving naming rights to them in exchange for big bucks?
Imagine: the FedEx16.

Ryan, what conference do they play
in now, and what kind of record have they had over say the past 5 years…..I can’t see someone ( read conference here) inviting them if their just door mats where they are now…STUB
Unless they break from the NCAA, you won’t see a corporate sponsor named conference. The corporate sponsorships that you do see are equipment companies like Nike, Adidas, UnderArmour, and Wilson. Not sure what FedEx would have to offer…team transportation in a cargo jet ? :-)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
FedEx could offer the list of people who care who wins the
FedEx Cup. Shouldn’t take long.
