UPDATED: Own the Clubs Tiger Used to Win His Tiger Slam...Now, He Said, He Said

It only took nine years, but the clubs that Tiger Woods used to win the Tiger Slam in 2000-01 are now for sale on eBay.  The minimum bid for the set of sticks is $250,000, as Golf Digest first reported yesterday.

Tigerclubs_medium

The user who put the clubs up for auction is aphotoshop1.  He's from Vista, CA, and says the set was a personal gift from Woods to the seller.  (Not gonna get any more Tiger memorabilia after this!)  The set of 681 forgings was custom made by Titleist for Woods to resemble his old Mizuno MP14 and MP29 hybrid set.  Each club is inscribed with a "T" on the back toe.

Woods' clubs are two degrees weak on each club and shaft length decreases on each prior club by 1/2", starting with a 39" 2-iron.

Also included are two Vokey wedges at 56 and 60 degrees with the inscription "Tiger" on the back toe of the clubs.

Here are the measurements for Woods' clubs:

Irons
Lofts: All irons 2 degrees weak (2 iron is 21 degrees)
Shaft: Dynamic Gold X 100 (tipped 1/4")
Lie: 1 degree upright
Swingweight: D4

Wedges
Loft: 56 degrees (58 degree wedge bent to 56 degrees)
Shaft: Dynamic Gold S 400
Bounce: 6 degrees

Grip: Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cord grips, 58 round, one layer tape

UPDATE: In his pre-tournament press conference for this week's Players Championship, Tiger Woods confirmed that the clubs up for auction were not used by him to win the Tiger Slam.

"He may have my set of irons, but they are not from those tournaments," Woods said. "They are in my garage."

But feel free to bid that quarter-mil that is still being asked for as a minimum bid.

UPDATE 2: Steve Mata, the man who is aphotoshop1 on eBay, is a Titleist rep who was selling the clubs on eBay.  The listing has since been taken down, but Mata spoke with Doug Ferguson of the AP about Woods' denial of the authenticity of Mata's claims about the set.  Mata reaffirmed his claim that these clubs are one of Woods' two Tiger Slam sets.

Mata said he received the irons from Woods in 2001 at Westchester when it was time to change out to get new grooves.  He claims that he considered selling the set back to Woods (presumably for $250K), but that Camp Tiger was not happy to hear that these irons might be hitting the market.

Hey Tiger Head

here’s your chance man…Ya better jump on this one quick, cause ya know that at only 250K they won’t last long….If ya don’t grab them, I bet Fairways & Grins will….well, maybe not, cause he can’t even control the TV in the house…Oh well….with the specs as published, who the heck would want them….STUB

hmmmm

Didn’t someone sell a piece of toast with the likeness of the Virgin Mary on it on E Bay ? Sure they did. I was going through an extra golf shoe bag of mine earlier today that I keep extra stuff in and I pulled out a golf glove with the likeness of Rachael Uchitel on it. After further inspection I realised that the glove just had a couple of golf balls tucked inside of it to help keep the shape while in the bag. P. T. No thanks

Believe it or not I have better things to do with my money.

Just for Comparison

You could purchase a brand new Lamborghini Gallardo and have $30,000 in pocket money left over as compared to the price of these clubs.

Hey OMP...I had a neighbor once, who in the middle

of his mid-life crisis did buy one of those things….found out real quick, where the heck was he going to drive the thing…The interior was so ouster, that you had to have a shoe horn to get in and out…I think it was his wife that said…“me or the car dear” peddled it after just 3 months…I sat in it one time…the canvas seats we had in the army jeeps were more comfortable….STUB

A Great Myth About Sports Cars

Is that they are supposed to be comfortable. A car that handles well at high speed is going to feel like riding on a brick.

If you want comfort and some performance, get a BMW M5. If you want a balls-out car that can take a turn at 170, you get a Lambo or Ferrari.

I'd put in a bid...

Here's something to ponder blog buddies

I bet it was the 7 iron from that set that Elin took to the windows of the Escalade….Now, with El Tigre being out of the house for so long, they may not be in the garage after all….It may well be that Elin is disposing of his goodies even as we speak here…..Ya know, there is no fury like a pissed on woman…er…something like that. Ya kin all do what ya want with them autos, but I’m gonna order me a new Jag XJ…long wheel base….It’s more beautiful than some of the women I have known….truth be know, most of the ladies I have known…..STUB
