I Hereby Challenge Jerry Rice to a Golfing Duel
92-82. Thirty over par. That's what Jerry Rice did in two rounds at the BMW Charity Pro-Am. Worse than that, Rice was disqualified for his caddy having using a yardage scope during the his second round. Rice said he would not play as a pro in future Nationwide Tour events.
With a year to get his act together, Rice went 83-76 in his Nationwide Tour debut at the Fresh Express Classic in a display that was tough to watch. This was worse.
Sometimes, golf fans watch a player on TV and scoff, "Yeah, I could do that." This time, though, I think I really could do that. I think I could beat Jerry Rice in a 36 hole match on a Nationwide Tour caliber layout. (Surely, I'm wrong.)
I'm a pretty good golfer. Back in my high school days - when I had more time to play - I was down to about a five index. Make it an eight or nine on a Nationwide Tour course. That puts me at 81-82. With some practice, I get it down to 79 or so. That's a hell of a match right there. It's a match I want to see. Me versus Jerry Rice.
Therefore, I am officially challenging NFL Hall of Famer and the greatest wide receiver that ever lived to a 36 hole golf duel.
We don't need Donald Trump to facilitate it, though it'd be appreciated. I could even expand the competition and let Jerry whoop my ass at the 40 yard dash, pull-ups, or ballroom dancing - BEFORE we golf. He can win all of those, but I demand Jerry Rice at golf.
Once upon a time, Spike TV had Pros vs. Joes. (Do they still? I don't know.) I always wanted to be on that show, but invariably Bill Romanowski would be on the show, spit in my eye, chop block me, and tear my ACL. I don't suspect Rice would do anything like that and I could live out my dream of haphazardly thinking I could beat a legendary pro athlete at something. (I did beat Lucas Glover in a chipping contest, so that's something.)
So, Jerry, whatcha say? Two rounds, the course of your choice.

I’ll donate some Loudmouth attire for you to wear if he accepts.

I’m thinking that if I shot 69-69 in the first two rounds, and either I had a range finder in my bag, or he brought one to the course and used it – I would toss him into the nearest water hazard and THEN DQ myself. How can you (a) be a player and not know that you can’t use one during play…(b) be a caddy and not know that…and © be a player and HIRE a caddy who doesn’t know it ?
Wise move to let everybody know that you’re not coming back out as a pro, Jerry.
Psst – hey RB – you just picked a “baseball fight” with Jerry Rice….“hold me back – HOLD ME BACK !”…while backing into your team for them to “hold you back”. (lol)

Pro vs Joes - Golf Edition
It’d be awesome if the TGC had a show where the pro athletes/celebs (who think they have a golf game) face off against the Joes. It’d be far more intereseting than watching Mark Wahlberg vs. Johnny Drama hack it up at Trump’s course. I, for one, would watch the hell out of it. Someone call Michael Campbell. He should be free soon.
Sometimes I have nightmares; and they all involve not having the internet.
Court, I get the distinct
feeling here, that for a guy just a few winks short of the Alter and who should be saving his strength and energies for the big event, RB is kinda letting his crow mouth over load his humming bird ass….jist saying…..STUB
An LPGA caddie....
Would make sure he withdrew before he got to 88.
Be fair RB
looking at Jerry’s worst scores is one thing. But, if you look at his 83-76 at Stonebrae it would show that he probably is very close to a legit 0.2. Playing golf “with a pencil” is so so difficult. At your best you were a 5 index, which is a 7 handicap. No way you would ever be able to dream of shooting a 76 in a tournament round at Stonebrae. I am not being disrespectful, just talking about the limits of a 7 handicap. Your chances of even shooting 76 in a “fun” round are very limited at a course with that slope and rating. Jerry has embarrassed himself trying to play with guys that are legitimate +4’s and +5’s that do this for a living. He is still waaaaaay better than even a regular 2 handicap. Remember that all of his huge numbers from Thursday’s rounds would be limited due to ESC, etc.
This isn’t a referendum on Jerry’s handicap, that really checks out in his 4 round experiment. This just shows that a 0.2 is MILES away from being competitive on any tour. It was funny to see Sterling Sharpe looking smooth in the amateur portion of the event today. He was hitting high quality shot after high quality shot. Some would think maybe he could compete. But, just check the results of the first few egolf professional tour events this year to see how far off his game is as well. I love that these guys are out there trying (along with Romo). They open themselves up for criticism from mid to high single digits that have no freaking clue how hard tournament golf really is when you try to play.
