Italian Teen Manassero Now Youngest to Make Masters Cut

At 16 years, 355 days old, Italian phenom and British Amateur champion Matteo Manassero has become the youngest player to make the cut at the Masters.  He did so on the number at +3 147 through 36 holes.

When first asked if how he felt about making the cut, he didn't want to jinx it, reluctant to answer a reporter's question about making the cut.  After being sure that he had made the cut, he said he had the goal of finishing the opening two rounds within ten shots of the lead.  He missed that goal by a shot, but made the cut and will win low amateur as a result.

Manassero said he did not know what the cut would be out on the course, but said he did his best despite making the admission that he struggled.

"I just played, saving some putts, trying to do the best I could. Actually, I have done my best with 4-over today. I cannot make less than 4-over."

It was a terrific press conference...

…you have to love the wide eyed look on his face during that post round conference. Happy..tired…overwhelmed…yet very poised. He has things pretty well laid out for himself – turning pro on May 1st so he can play the Italian Open and start making paychecks in hopes of earning his Euro Tour card, and if not, head to Q-school. And he didn’t place himself above playing on the Challenge Tour to gain experience. School will be done on-line – but he’s turning pro.

Good to see/hear but we have had these types of kids before

and how he deals with the success the next year will tell the story

Many get these ridiculously great early years going then flops due to the pressure
