Meltdown.

I'm assuming I'm not the only one watching Round 2 from Quail Hollow...

It's almost as if the chain reaction that began in the life of Tiger Woods last Thanksgiving finally reached his reactor core this afternoon.

Star-divide

Playing the 16th along with Stewart Cink (who's not having a great day) and Angel Cabrera (who is), Tiger is currently 7-over for the day, 9-over for the tournament, and can't even see the cut line from his vantage point. What's really shocking, though, is his behavior, which has been at times...well...almost Dalyesque. I don't know how to better describe a golfer just giving up and losing all control. Three putts from inside three feet for double bogey at 15? Are you kidding me?

Earlier on the back nine, after having deposited his tee shot in a fairway bunker, Tiger walked in, chopped out, and kept walking. At one point he was two hundred yards down the fairway from Cink and Cabrera.

Honestly - this is embarrassing to watch. It's more sad than it is anything else. And I don't want to kick a man while he's down - but this is obviously news, and will likely be much discussed this weekend.

******************************************************************************************************************************

Update 5:43PM EDT: Woods' round is mercifully over. 79. 43 on the back. Remains to be seen if he'll do post-round media.

******************************************************************************************************************************

5:49 PM EDT: Tiger after the round: "It is what it is."

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Six fairways in 36 holes........hello???

Melt down? Quit?? Whatz up with that???? …… WOW……it’s gotta be my fault, I didn’t bench him after yesterdays round. What is really surprising it the “no mas” attitude coming down the stretch. Phil should be fired up to take a run at the elusive #1…….Go Phil!

Em, I did consider taking TW myself, only because I figured we wouldn’t be able to take him much longer – and his history at this event has been stellar. But ultimately I went with Phil. FINALLY after about 15 weeks I make the right choice! :)

I see you passed me yesterday. Good for you.

I’m still hanging at 7 overall, but I need a real good week-end.

What I noticed, was the SULLENNESS

in his face and whole physical demeanor after the 12th hole….very uncharacteristic ….maybe we are seeing the new changed Tigar after all….GO BIG WIEZE…STUB

Go Phil

Well if Phil wins this week, he will be only one win away from becoming the Worlds #1. Just finishing in the top ten this week , combined with a Tiger missed cut will certainly bring ever so close to taking over as # 1. I for one would welcome that and I think it would be great for golf in general. Sre would make for some great golf history and a big boost for Phil as his Wife and Mom are still going through some rough treatments for Breast Cancer.

The OWGRs...

…are so much convoluted silliness. Math be damned. Can it be argued, right this second, that Mickelson is the best player in the world?

Er...should say:

I think it’s virtually unarguable that at this moment Mickelson is the best player in the world.

Should

be a “FAN” TASTIC weekend for the “real golf fans” Hey EM,,,? You went against your own best judgement picking Tiger. You told me weeks ago you would not be picking him in Fantasy. Sorry brother. I have Phil, Westwood, Furyk, and Davis Love. Sadly my girlfriend is still in first place ( or will be after today) and I am creeping up at 14th place. grrrrrrrr

TN I never said that brother.

In fact if you re-read my comment, I never mentioned Tigers name at all. In my opinion ( as I have stated in here often ) I define a “Real Golf Fan” as someone who watches golf on a regular basis no matter who or who isn’t in the field, including LPGA, European Tour, et al. The “casual fan” or “fringe fan” is one who usualy only watches golf on the weekends when Tiger is playing. No offence meant.

Gawd, wouldn't that be the cats

pajamas? I’m not rooting against him, but I am also not rooting for him….I said before, that the atmosphere at the Masters was going to be a different matter at a regular tour stop where the fans can say almost anything they want….Funny, if it’s true, Stevie didn’t go an confront the fan….Would probably have gotten his clock cleaned if he had….I await more comments….but alas, he is not around for the week end….aw shucks….STUB

Meltdown ?

Some of y’all sound surprised by his poor play. His game has been smoke and morrors since before he beat Rocco. I think I’ve covered that already. This is the version 2 of TW. The post ACL TW. He’s never gonna be the same as I’ve said countless times. Now, he’s got to work his azz off just to compete. Of course, given that he’s fessed up to bangin’ 121 women while married to Elin, that appears to be exactly what he was doin ! lol Oh, and in case anybody hasn’t noticed,…this will be the 4th straight event that Phil has finished ahead of TW. As Johnny Miller commented last year at the HSBC in China,“there’s a new sheriff in town, and he’s a left-hander”. TW will lose his # 1 ranking before the US Open at this rate. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t withdraw from The Players. He hates the course, and it’ll only embarass him ,…….again !……………………Z

3.....I was thinking the same thing.....

another showing next week like this one and……well, not good. His history at the Players hasn’t been that good, so I wouldn’t be surprised at WD early this week.

It’s always a little surprising when TW misses a cut considering how rarely it happens. Players miss cuts, and they all play poorly at times, (including the “new sheriff”) so I wouldn’t get too excited about it. I do finally agree with you that TW is not the same player he was but I think it’s more Hank Haney related than ACL related. I wouldn’t worry too much about it though, as he’ll still win plenty despite everything. Tiger will be fine (golf wise). What I find interesting is how well he behaved the last two days. Normally with Tiger playing that poorly we would have seen some rather bad behavior to go along with it. I think that speaks to what I and a lot of people have been saying; that he’s trying. I think he deserves a little credit for that. This isn’t easy for him, and he’s going through a tough time both personally and professionally. Let’s not kick him while he’s down.

Tigerhead......I can't believe you said that.....especially

the way you’ve been “kicking me” the last 3 weeks in fantasy golf!!!!….you’ve shown me NO MERCY! Ok, for your sake I won’t kick right now, but I can’t hold off forever, so let me know when we can bust him up……just kidding. Actually I thought he handled the questions after the round quite well and as you said, no screaming profanities and no clubs flying through the air……that’s progress. Hopefully he will keep it up.

Yah, I gotta agree. I always said when he started to act like a “professional” I’d give him his props. He was much better yesterday during and after the round. The Haney/ACL issue is intertwined. Tiger HAD to change his swing because of the ACL. I can pin point exactly what’s different and it has been done to accommodate a less supple. albeit stronger" left side. He’s had ongoing issues with it post ACL. That’s not gonna change. When he’s on, he’ll contend and win. When he’s not he’ll struggle and miss cuts, just as any other player would. He’s lost his vintage TW swing, and as a result will never be the same. But he can and will still play VERY well at times. Just not as often. imo. How are the new clubs workin out ?……………………Z

The Burner irons are on order, loved how I hit em during the demo, so much better than my current set!! Also have a couple of Calloway wedges with “Mack Daddy” groves on order per your recommendation. Haven’t decided yet on a driver, wasn’t able to get on the “track man”, turns out you needed to make an appointment for that. I do have an appointment this Thursday at a different demo day for a driver fitting session on the “track man”.

No kicking, just having some good luck on occasion…lol. I wouldn’t worry to much about that as sooner or later my good fortune will dry up.

Watching Tiger play, you can tell he's very unhappy with life at the moment.

I don’t know about anyone here, but I could never play my best when going through life’s enevitable “lows”..the mind tends to be away from the golf course. That’s what I see when Tiger is playing right now. Everyone knows he is terrible with the driver and it will get worse. He reminds me of Seve when he escapes…but that kind of golf takes it’s toll on the player when the putts dry up.

by Easingwold on May 1, 2010 9:52 AM EDT reply actions

Easy......You nailed it!

Exactly Right. I don’t know how anyone watching wouldn’t have seen it. Faldo recognized it, and commented on it. Lerner was unable to see Tiger’s eye’s and face, because he still has his lips surgically attached to Tiger’s butt……when he asked Faldo if he thought Tigers private life was affecting him, I was hoping Faldo would just shoot him and put him out of his misery. Surely they will pull him off the air soon.

by em66 on May 1, 2010 10:13 AM EDT up reply actions

You know how it is, Em..

Lerner an co. try to sensationalise golf…ratings etc. Tiger sells to the “fringe fan” if you like. Seasoned golfers, who played the game for many years knows all the highs and lows of the game, see through the hype. I’d be amazed if Tiger wins a major this year. He’d have to shut all his feelings off to do it…or see light at the end of the tunnel he finds himself in. I think once the Masters return was over, his turmoil came back to haunt him on day 3 and that was that. When he got interviewed by Kostis, one got the feeling he didn’t want to return too soon…but somehow he has this week. The Players might go the same way.

Sadly I think the sooner Mr & Mrs Woods

call it a day, the sooner they can mend their lives and move on. I just hope there are privacy laws in the US which prevent us sticking our noses into their divorce arrangements?

Are you tellin us that with the tabloids

ya got in the UK and how they print stuff, that you wouldn’t love to read some juicy gossip about the divorce?….common now, fess up….by the way, how’s that farm ya planted coming along? I sure miss going to the garden and getting fresh herbs for dinner usage….I did get my Topsy Turvy tomato planted….will update you on the many big, red, juicy fruit I get….STUB
