The Smoke Monster Is Screwing Euro Tour Players Left & Right
If it wasn't bad enough for the world that Iceland is essentially bankrupt (but open for business), Iceland made headlines again this week for massive volcanic eruptions that have resulted in volcanic ash clogging up European airspace. Faster than a Frenchman can say "surrender!," European authorities shut down the skies to prohibit some real fun up there ensure the safety of air passengers.
That shut down of the skies has cost several of Europe's finest seeking to play in South Korea this week at the Ballantines Championship. Miguel Angel Jimenez and 10 other players have had to WD from the event because of the smoke and ash, says Tom Abbott of Golf Channel.
The Challenge Tour had to cancel their event in Morocco because of the plumes, which hurt a bunch of eTour pros that were getting exemptions into the field through an arrangement with their tour.
The Smoke Monster was available for comment on the situation, but only made that weird itching noise that it does before it kills people.

lol – nice piece of photography !
pretty amazing affect that volcano is having around the world…but it did wonders for train travel in Europe. A lot of people who HAD to travel figured out fairly quickly to get a train ticket and get south or west to be able to get where they needed to go.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Yeah, I would’ve taken a Euro train to the first city that they could fly out of. It’s crazy what it’s doing to world travel!

Hasn't stopped golf in Europe though!
Queues for Eurostar from London St. Pancras to Paris & onwards looked a couple of miles long on Thursday, the first day of the shut-down. The traffic to and from the Portsmouth ferry port to France is incredible – fortunately it is just off the motorway on the outskirts of town, so not really affecting the city itself. Hope the Morocco tournament can be rescheduled.
