Rematch: Fred Couples & Greg Norman Will Be Presidents Cup Captains in '11

This morning at the Shell Houston Open, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem announced that Fred Couples and Greg Norman will again serve as the captains of their respective Presidents Cup teams.

"My year is just getting better and better by being able to be Presidents Cup captain again in Australia," Couples said in a press conference to announce the news.

LISTEN: Brian Katrek spoke with Fred Couples yesterday on Teed Off with Brian Katrek on PGA Tour Network on XM/Sirius Radio.

"The Presidents Cup is special to me.  I've had two winning shots there."  Couples sank the Cup-clinching putt against Vijay Singh in the 2005 Presidents Cup.

Norman added, "The experiences that Freddy and I have felt since the beginning in 1994 to now have been an incredible journey."

Couples said he thought that Norman was "a lock" for the repeat performance since the Presidents Cup returns to Australia at Royal Melbourne.  Couples said he felt his status was more in doubt.

The American captain placed this role as the second greatest honor of his career behind winning the Masters in 1992.

The Tour also announced that Citi will serve as an official corporate partner for the Presidents Cup - effectively a title sponsor for the event, but without their name on the title.

OK, OK I know I may

be speaking as a minority of 1 here, but hasn’t interest in the Presidents Cup kind of been sliding lately? And when do we get enough of these cups…Next, it’s the Tea Cup (they could play that in the UK, cause they like their tea) Oh, and how about the Coffee Cup…that could be played in Brazil…coffee growers ya know…Than there’s the Mustache cup…that could be played in Germany, cause they have always liked mustaches…and it goes on and on…let’s not forget the ladies,,,they have cups of all sizes…Pretty soon, with all the cups, there won’t be any room left for regular tour events… STUB

I like the Cups. Love match play – and TEAM match play is about as much fun as anything on the golf course. (short of the hot drink cart girl hitting on you, of course.) :-)

If I didn’t like them – I’d just pull out that clicker thing and either turn it off and go play, or find something else to watch
