LPGA Tour Surfs into San Diego for US Opener
The LPGA Tour kicks off its season in the United States today with the first round of the Kia Classic from LaCosta. As one might expect, the first full field event on the schedule has garnered an outstanding field. That field includes reigning LPGA Champion Anna Nordqvist, who took in some surf lessons in Ron Burgundy's home town.

Ai Miyazato spoke with reporters yesterday. This is a bit of a home game for her, as she recently bought a home in La Costa. Still, she views La Costa and the Kia Classic as having big game atmosphere.
"[The] greens are really small, and the rough is really thick. Feels like a Major tournament, too," she said.
Lorena Ochoa also stopped by the media center. She is on the verge of perhaps losing her number one ranking, but is also celebrating her still fresh nuptials. It has long been foretold by Ochoa herself that her playing career would be short because she wishes to start a family and spend time helping more people in Mexico. Christina Kim speculated in her new book that Ochoa would retire in 2012 after a decade of service on Tour to do just that. When asked, Ochoa backed down from setting a specific timetable.
"I always said I'll play for 10, 12 years, I never have a specific date in my head. I think what is important is that right now golf is my priority, and I'm trying to do my best."
As for tournament previews, they come from all corners. Mostly Harmless has its top ten contenders this week, with Ai Miyazato, Cristie Kerr, and Suzann Pettersen atop his list. Hound Dog has his thoughts, too. Our Snap Hook Herald has full coverage as well, including news on Tiffany Joh's sponsor exemption.
Waggle Room will have LPGA Cam again this week, with one of the tournament leaders live from La Costa.

a FINE choice of pictures there RB. and thanks to Ai Miyazato for continuing the tour tradition of someone saying that EVERY tour stop feels like a major.
Does Christina Kim have ANY sort of filter ? How in the world does a prediction of when Ochoa would quit the Tour to have a family fit into her book ?
Ok – since Anna AND Grace are in the field this week, I have to go with those two and “home girl” Jean Reynolds, who is getting her first LPGA start with her brand new Tour card. If she finishes top 10, she’s in the Kraft-Nabisco next week…but if she doesn’t, she’s going to be in studio with us the Sunday of the Kraft, so I’m a little torn.

This is why you should get on Twitter. Jean’s awesome there, and her caddy too!

No way, no how, no twitter
Placebos, of course, are things you have to swallow even though they contain nothing that actually helps you. It's like American health insurance in a pill. -BiPM
