Ron Sirak Has A Tavistock Cup Shirt for Sale Since He's Not Using It
Golf World's Ron Sirak filed a very entertaining report of his brief attempt to cover the Tavistock Cup on Monday. He never got past the parking lot shuttle.
Tavistock Cup organizers have been adamant that all spectators must choose a side and dress accordingly: wear a blue shirt for Lake Nona (in their hue ONLY) or Isleworth red (just like Tiger). This included media, apparently. Sirak was not clear on that until he tried to board the shuttle for the matches.
When realizing that what he was being told was no joke, Sirak said, "In the spirit of journalism, I cannot wear your corporate uniform while I am covering your event. I am here as a journalist, not as a billboard."
That there is awesome. Good for Sirak to stand up about not wearing some ridiculous get up to cover a hit-n-giggle of no consequence without Tiger Woods. Mike Buteau's solid report on Woods' compadres aside, there was not much to learn from this event today or tomorrow. In that case, why bother?
I know there have been some tournaments where collecting my press credential never happened. In my case, though, it was not because of a principled stand, but because I still couldn't stand from the night before - or I wanted to be the one playing golf that day.

Sorry - Sirak is an arrogant idiot
I wonder what his BOSS has to say since he was ASSIGNED to go to the Tavistock Cup to do his JOB ?
He didn’t have to pay for that shirt. He wasn’t going to be wearing it as a corporate minion – what a moronic statement. – he wasn’t joining the Nazi or Communist party by wearing the shirt. The people at Isleworth look at this as FUN. All the corporate trappings are their for the players and TV.
But OH NO !! IIIIIiiiiiiiiii cahn’t do thaaaaaat….I’m the MMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-diaaaaaa. Bow to my wishes you peasants !!
The arrogance of guys like this in the media is absolutely amazing. And for a guy who has made predictions on tournaments – choosing players who aren’t even IN the tournament as players to watch – this guy doesn’t have that kind of leeway.

I wouldn’t wear some ridiculous shirt just to cover an event presented by a real estate group. It ain’t that important.

Then don’t accept the assignment. But if your boss sends you to cover the event OR ELSE – you’ll wear the FREE shirt and do your job. The media accept swag ALL the time – this is not a forum for him to get on his high horse.
Sirak is taking himself way too seriously – he thinks this is beneath him.
Ask yourself this – if Tiger had been in the Cup – would he have had a problem wearing a shirt ?

In Sirak’s case? Yes

Don’t kid yourself – if Tiger was there – he’d wear TWO shirts to get in

Haha, that’s not saying much :)

Don't get me started on Sirak
I love this particular part-
In 2005, I covered all four men’s major championships and all four women’s majors, prompting Golf Digest senior scribe and living legend Dan Jenkins to say: “Ron, you are not only the lone golf writer to work all eight majors in the same year, you are the only one who wanted to.”
How dare they not permit me entry. Don’t they know who I am?
And Sirak was clueless at at least one of those 8 majors. The 2005 Women’s British Open where he wrote-
A summer that looked like it might end with Sorrenslam instead produced a second improbable major champion, Jang’s triumph following fellow Korean Birdie Kim’s win at the US Women’s Open.
Jang’s British Open win wasn’t improbable. She was in the top 20 money winners for 2005, coming off a 12th on the money list in 2004 and had a top 5 in a previous British Open(2002).
It’s ok to make mistakes. Everyone does it. I do it at least once per day.

Ryan
how about 3 or 4 in one column? Like in this piece by Sirak.
My point is if he knew golf as well as he thinks he does, he would have never have called Jang improbable.

In that case, I agree. I won’t absolve something with a ton of mistakes cause that’s just ridiculous. But I have to cover myself cause I can’t always go on the offensive because I am not without sin in that regard!
