Johnny Miller continues to be an on-air jackass
While watching NBC's coverage during the final round of the Transitions Championship I was again put off by a comment from our good friend Johnny Miller. I'm not sure if any of you caught this but it certainly stuck out to me and was completely uncalled for. John Daly was putting out on the 8th hole when commentator Dan Hicks made the comment of Daly that "he still has trouble staying away from the big numbers...the double and triple bogeys". To which Miller had to pipe in and add insult to injury by saying, "he still has trouble staying away from a lot of things". Nice Johnny. Could you be more of a jackass? Is it me or was that comment completely uncalled for and unnecessary?
I was somewhat expecting to hear an on-air apology when the coverage came back from commercial, but that never came. Apparently Miller is exempt from having to do those types of things. Don't get me wrong, it's not as bad as Frank Nobilo's "2:30" joke, but nonetheless it was an on-air low blow that didn't need to be made.
As I'm sure you know, I'm not alone in my feelings for Johnny Miller. Recently there has been a group formed on Facebook called "Golf Fans who want NBC to retire Johnny Miller and replace him with Brad Faxon". I just joined, making myself the 285th member.

Jeff......
You’ve got to be kidding. I like JD, but he’s got a long, long way to go before what Miller said would offensive. I hope he proves Miller wrong, but his past doesn’t suggest he will. I suppose when NBC’s golf viewership numbers get down to about 300, then 285 facebook members might just mean something.
The Saints ARE the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS....WHO DAT!
I just think the comment was unneccessary no matter WHO the recipient was. Yes, maybe some believe that Daly would deserve that, but that’s not Miller’s job to take low blows like that. Could you imagine him saying the same thing about Tiger? “He has trouble staying away from a lot of things…” People would be in an uproar and Miller would be gonzo.
Court.....
This isn’t about Miller or Daly. It’s about someone (Jeff) who doesn’t like Miller, finding something insignificant to whine about. You wouldn’t have had a problem with the statement had it come from someone you like. Much ado about nothing..

It’s not about Miller ? Did the words not come out of Miller’s mouth ? Was it not a cheap shot ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Court.....
I was watching and heard the remarks and thought nothing of them. There was no topic, just a comment about Daly’s having a couple of bad holes, and then Millers follow-up. This article is ABOUT Jeff wanting to make something out of nothing….and no, it wasn’t a cheap shot. JD milks all these “imperfections” in his life for everything he can get ($$$) out of it……so Miller may have helped JD make a buck or two with his comment…..lol

It was, court.
Miller does well for himself the every now and then drops himself in it. Rememeber when Parry won ? Miller talks crap at times.
Good catch, Jeff
Miller has again proven why some people shouldn’t be allowed a microphone.

If I never hear Johnny Miller utter the
words, “He needs to hit a baby draw on this shot”, I will be eternally grateful.
I think a lot of the things people loved about Miller when he first started announcing are the things they may not like about him now. I used to really like him and now I really have a hard time enjoying the broadcast with he and Dan Hicks (and I like Hicks).
I think the Daly comment wasn’t too hateful. If he had mentioned booze, wives, Marlboros or something specific JD had problems staying away from, it may be different. We know Miller is going to make a comment on everything. If JD would disappear from the tour like he should, those comments would have been a moot point…
