DFT week 1 - Gerina Mendoza sings "If it weren't for bad luck...."
I just pulled up the Duramed Futures Tour web site to see what was what in the final round of the first tournament of the year. "Live Scoring" shows a three way tie for the lead between Jane Rah, Gerina Mendoza, and Garrett Phillips all at -8 and on the back 9. Looks like an exciting finish ahead.
Being a Gerina Mendoza fan, I pulled up her score card and there at the 11th hole - two big red circles on the par 5. Double Eagle...Albatross !! Tied for the lead with 7 to play.
(cue the sad...ominous music)
Then I looke back at the scoreboard and notice that I had scrolled down just a little to see more of the scoreboad and missed the big announcement.
"The final round has been cancelled.
A playoff between the second-round leaders will start at approximately 4:30 p.m."
Check the weather...doesn't look too bad. The Weather Channel says "light rain" - doesn't seem to be a problem there. So now we wait for the final round wrap-up to find out what happened.
"Gloom....despair...and agony on me..." Does it get any worse than having to leave the course after an Albatross and then finding out that it doesn't count ?

here's how it wound up...
1 Angela Oh (Maple Shade, N.J.) 72-65 – 137 (-7) $14,000 (playoff)
2 Jane Rah (Torrance, Calif.) 70-67 – 137 (-7) $10,000
3 Cindy LaCrosse (Tampa, Fla.) 69-69 – 138 (-6) $7,125
T4 Gerina Mendoza (Roswell, N.M.) 72-67 – 139 (-5) $4,558
Garrett Phillips (St. Simons Island, Ga.) 70-69 – 139 (-5) $4,558
So it turns out that both Mendoza AND Phillips came out on what was potentially the short end of the proverbial stick. That has to hurt a little bit.

Court,
short end of the stick? Helped along by the better play of others….That’s why it’s called COMPETITION…To the victor go the spoils, or in this case, bigger checks…STUB
Stub – in this case, it wasn’t competition that got her – it was the weather. Her third round play was wiped out and the two second round leaders played off. When play was called and cancelled in the third round, she and Phillips and Rah were tied and Angela Oh was 3 over on her round and in 5th place…she ended up with the winner’s check.

Is the next Duramed Futures Tour and some golf blogger cross your fingers is going to be there as a member of the media Saturday and Sunday. Which happens to be Masters weekend.
Bill,you seem
to be tuned into the Duramed Tour more than most of us…I"m sure that there are some of us who would be interested in getting more info on all the girls…STUB
I'll
be cross posting to Mostly Harmless and Hound Dog besides OTB. Right now it isn’t official, I emailed the DFT media person plus Mike Scanlan at the LPGA. Mike was very optimistic but said Lisa was the person to speak to and she would get back to me. I only emailed her Friday during the middle of the Florida Charity tournament’s first round. I should hear something this week.
AT OTB Sports there is 210+ LPGA Tour posts and 150+ PGA Tour. So yes I prefer the Ladies.
Bill, don’t expect a “media tent” unless you bring your own and set it up yourself. Media pays no attention to the Tour. Lisa has gotten back to me very quickly the times I’ve contacted her.

did they try to sell tickets up there, D ? they tried down here, but pretty much gave up and just told people to come on out to watch.

They’ve tried to sell tickets, but I haven’t paid attention to how successful they’ve been. The more interesting issue here is that last year they took the carts away. Any player who doesn’t have a caddie gets a volunteer to carry the bag. I was relegated to being a walking scorekeeper, which isn’t as much fun as being part of the “team.”

well that seems like a silly rule. it’s a lot easier to get enough people to carry 2 or 3 bags on a cart and run back and forth than it is to find enough caddies to carry for every player who needs a caddy. Maybe your tournament was just trying to look more “professional” ?
You weren’t carrying the bag ? That seems like a waste of time.

I think it’s a silly idea too. I really wish I could carry the bag. I have enough trouble lugging mine for nine once a week. I couldn’t do 18 three days in a row.
