Daly's PGA Tour discipline file becomes public record
Garry Smits of the Jacksonville Times Union has a story today on John Daly's PGA Tour file. The PGA Tour usually keeps these behavior / fine records private, but he was involved in a court case in Jacksonville and the records were subpoena'd and have become part of public record.
Before you start thinking that this is just a hit piece designed to take more shots at Daly - Smits does a very good job pointing out the patience and support given to Daly from the Tour, and their desire to keep him around.
Daly's file is more than 250 pages long spanning his career that started in the 80's.

I’m wondering why this is relevant, or even worthy of print space…Must have been a slow news day for Smits to even pretend this is news….STUB
Why it's news
It’s news because of the enormity of the list of his offenses. If you take the next 20 players on the disciplinary list and combine their offenses, they probably wouldn’t equal Daly’s.

It’s the first time a player’s disciplinary record has been made public. It’s interesting because of all the people who scream about players swearing and throwing clubs thinking that the Tour does nothing or has no disciplinary arm.
Yes – it’s sort of a slow day. Smits was on “Teed Off” with Brian Katrek this morning, and he wasn’t making this out to be any sort of earth shattering story. He was more impressed with how patient the Tour had been with him than the sheer number of infractions.

No Longer a Fan
I’ve been a big fan of John Daly ever since he won his first major in my city of Indianapolis. But enough is enough. Sure, he’s a fascinating golfer. But as far as I’m concerned, his disciplinary record should cause the PGA Tour to ban him from even teeing it up. He calls what the writer wrote “rumors,” and they were his sorry official disciplinary record. He must not understand what rumors are. And the way he moans and whines on his “Reality” show is nauseating. At one point he said, “I’m a fighter.” Was it 21 time he was fined for not giving his best effort, or even more? Some fighter. What a wonderful role model for kids or anyone else. Get him out of here.
