Let's Get the Masters to Go Beyond 3D...Into 4D!

We told you earlier this week that the Masters will be teaming up with Sony, Comcast, and other partners to broadcast two hours of 3D coverage of the Masters this year.  (Unfortunately, the first shipment of Panasonic 3D native sets has sold out - I guess I have to wait.)  3D sounds great and all, and movies like Avatar have proven the value of experiencing entertainment in 3D.

But the Masters and Augusta National are on the cutting edge of technology.  In this world we live in, everything moves so fast that 3D isn't even cutting edge at this moment.  Somewhere in some lab, some nerd is working on 4D television.

Everyone knows* that the fourth dimension is time.  So why don't we work on broadcasting the 2011 Masters in 4D.  Can you imagine the awesome consquences?

  • We could watch Tiger play the 2nd hole as it is in 2011, or as it was when he won in 1997.
  • Jack Nicklaus c. 1986 could play alongside Phil Mickelson today.
  • Fred Couples' miracle at the 12th hole could be broadcast as just another group on Sunday, confusing everyone.

It's an incredible possibility!  Get on it!  Now!

* If you had no idea, get a hold of Brian Greene's Fabric of the Cosmos.  It'll explain quantum physics in very simple terms using lots of The Simpsons examples.  Or if that's not your thing, just check out this cool graphic that Devil Ball Golf drew up of the Masters in 3D.

I always love the Masters staying one up on Technology

but this seems a bit absurd

I hope they continue keeping their online streams in good shape

I also hope TV companies continue getting a better picture quality

3D seems a waste to many like myself
