On and OFF camera -Tour Talk
As golf is directly connected to how I make my living, I have always found it interesting about what gets said ON Camera vs Off Camera. Jim Furyk who is a neighbor of mine in Ponte Vedra and is said to be good pals with Tiger had this to say in an ON CAMERA interview. "“We’re going to have to be patient,” Furyk said. “There will be times when a guy double bogeys the last hole or has a bad round, and the first question is about Tiger. Guys are not going to want to answer that question. It’s what we’re going to be dealing with at least for the next month. Hopefully, it will pass.”" One difference Furyk sees is that most players and golf executives are happy that Woods is playing again. Even so, he expects the players to be tested as never before, not so much by the challenge of Augusta National, but the endless questions. As I've been saying for a long time now, the media needs to stop shoving tiger down our throats every chance it gets. Good, Bad, or Indifferent. !!!

Jumpn.....
Before the fire hydrant jumped in front of Tiger’s SUV, almost all pro’s and media people were totally intimidated by Tiger. I too believe what they said in front of the camera’s was not always what they really thought. We will now have to see if the Scumbag will still be as intimidating as before. Have you heard anything from your friends as to whether or not he is vindictive to those he deems to have crossed him??
The Saints ARE the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS....WHO DAT!
Who do you think
Will step up an challenge him on course. Damn all the talk, challenge the man on the golf couse. Talkers will never beat Tiger. You have to flat out beat him week in and week out. There has only been one challenger “on course” during his run, and it was Vijay. He took #1 in the midst of Tiger’s run. Ok, so did David Duval. but we barely remember that. So who do you guys think will actually challenge Tiger on the Golf course? Forget the 19th hole and all the talk. Who is going to challenge on holes 64-72? Y.E. Yang? or who else?

Paddy yes......
I agree, but most of these guys are defeated in the locker room. If they ask them a question their answer is different than what they really feel, because they are scared of what Tiger might do to them on course. What a bunch of Wussys. Why aren’t people outraged at these guys lack of backbone? Look at Phil, everytime he is called upon to lead the tour he plays middling Golf. Kaymer has to get in the mix in the majors, then we’ll see what he is made of. Where is Rory? These guys are handed greatness, then they either get lazy, or they just weren’t as good as advertised. But it’s okay i guess. Paddy is a worker. Tiger is a worker. Greatness in this game takes work. Vijay is a worker. Jack was a worker. These guys don’t have to work. They are millionaires just by showing up. Why work when the world is handed to you. A bunch of spoiled brats is what i see. That’s why they have had their hats handed to them for a generation. But heck they don’t seem to mind. So i guess i shouldn’t either.

I agree 100%
I always said Darren Clarke didn’t work hard enough. Even Ernie Els. Mickleson ? So talented. But look at Ben Hogan. Worked forever. Faldo was the same. I look at Faldo winnig 6 majors and the Els and Mickleson with 3 each. Why is that ? Forget being in Tigers era..he wins 1 out of 4..Faldo had Norman, Seve, Langer, Price, Couples, Love III, Strange…all those combined and Faldo still won 6. Why didn’t Els and Mickleson, younger than VJ,dominate the rest of the time ? Phil threw a lot away, granted, because of the way he plays. Els had his injury, but he never worked as hard as the all time greats. To be at the very top, one must.
With all due respect, on what do you base your assumption that Ernie “never worked as hard as the all time greats”? What did they do that he hasn’t?
Play it as it lies
Ernie never quite had that killer instinct
and when you watched him in interviews, instead of saying, “I’ll get Tiger next time”, he would say, “just my luck to be playing in his time”. Did you ever hear Trevino or Watson talk that way when Jack was king ? No. They upped thier game and worked harder. Els has a laid back attitude..a bit like Freddie…they never quite work as hard as the real grinders do.
He may not
have voiced it publicly, but he has as much kill as anyone out there. He is, as you said, very laid back. It’s funny that when we hear a guy say – “I can take it to Tiger”, he gets vilified – Ian Poulter is a good example of that. The opposite, gets the same treatment. What is said in front of a microphone, is not always coming from the gut.
He works hard, maybe not in the same fashion as VJ, but who does? I do know though, that he works hard, a lot harder than most know or that he lets on.
Play it as it lies
I think all pros work hard.
But in Els case, there were times in his career when he seemed to ride on his talent. I can never know what he knows, but when he was here in Europe, players seemed to go along with that. If he worked 95% of what he could do, then he left 5 % out there. The Hogans couldn’t do that and I realise thats hard on Ernie, but it’s just my opinon.
Damnation EM
vindictive? is a 10 lb chicken fat? You can bet the farm he will be…I hope that the media keeps on digging so that the truth about this “scumbag” as you so graciously called him, I would have used a more vulgar term, comes out…I hope that every dirty little secret he has is put in bold print…I admire his golf talents, I wish I had them, but as a man I think he stinks….IMHO…STUB
I agree. ESPN had reduced their TW coverage to minimal
until he announced the Masters. Now, huge segments of each hour is Tiger. I’m sure even the individual writers and on screen talent are as sick of Tiger as we are, but the producers make the calls what is ‘news’…

In response to any questions re TW
They just have to repeat politely but ad nauseum “Do you have any other questions about my round?”
Wendy,
talking of rounds…how are yours coming?..chipping/pitching getting better?…STUB
Thank you so much for asking
Do you have any other questions? ( joking). Owing to weather, bereavement, sickness, etc, haven’t played since mid-Dec. – longest layoff in my life. At least no pressure when I try to get out there next week. That’s the theory anyway.
GOOD LUCK WENDY!!!
Sorry for all your travails, but once you get out there and hit that 1st great shot…….oh yeah…..nothing like it. I like your theory…..lol
The Saints ARE the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS....WHO DAT!
Wendy, sorry about the bereavement..
It’s warming up nice now…I saw a forcast its 17 c in Kent today ! Hope next week goes well and all the best for the golfing year.
Thanks Easing
Sadly it was ma-in-law who lived in Paris so with us living in UK and sister-in-law in Corsica, it has been and will be a nightmare to sort things out. The winds in Paris were colder than anything I can remember (and I lived there through many a year) – enough to flay the hide off a donkey. Came back with stonking colds/zero energy to-date. Have made the bookings – now need to get off my backside and GET OUT THERE!
Your welcome Wendy.
I’ve played about 15 rounds since the snow. Games coming along well, I’m sure yours will too. ( I find a good shot of whisky during the round helps in the cold ! ) Hope things run smoothly with the family arrangements…cheers .
Wendy, gawd we love it
when you talk dirty….“FLAY THE HIDE OFF A DONKEY – STONKING COLD”..you go girl….lol:-)…STUB
Dirty ??Nothing worse when someone looks at your nose..
and you realise you haven’t blown the nose as good as you should have :)
EM, I'll
bet ya double or nothing on her pressure….STUB
Stub......
No pressure in the first round out……it’s the next one that starts the slide…..something to do with thinking.
The Saints ARE the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS....WHO DAT!
Well, I'll say this for you,
you were a gentleman about it….lol….STUB
I'm cool about the first few rounds
what I’m dreading is the treadmill and dumbell exercises I’m going to have to do to get back in shape. Any heckling on the first tee will be greeted with a stare which says “you’re toast”. I can hear those " b…….’s" chuckling now!
Happiness
Wendy – Happiness is getting off the first tee without embarrassing yourself.
Head down, take it back L O W and S L O W.
Ed
Don't worry, nothing will be allright.
Ed - I agree wholeheartedly
but I know, and the fellas standing on the tee behind me know, that there is no horrific shot that we haven’t already hit in front of each other! Actually I’m usually pretty good off the first tee, probably because of exactly that.
Oh my gawd Wendy,
treadmill, dumbells….are you playing golf, or getting ready for some barroom arm wrestling bouts…STUB
Stub - 3 months of hibernation
takes its toll. Remember I’m used to walking the course 3 times a week and also carry the bag if course conditions don’t allow for trolley.
Be assured that I only do powerwalk programs on my treadmill (also neglected as situated in freezing cold conservatory) as I find the red wine and fag ash go everywhere if one runs on it. Also the dumbells are a set of pretty pink, blue and green ones, maximising at 5lbs. which I had to use when recovering from pulled shoulder muscle/trapped nerve.
wendy
Lov’n the brit terminologies that you use LOL
Trolleys, fag ashes. :o)
I used to jog but my cocktails used to spill to much.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
It can be quite un-flattering for some to be seen jogging or rather jiggling.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Yeah, Stub......
I tripped over my treadmill the other day on the way to the course…..does that count???
The Saints ARE the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS....WHO DAT!
After you got finished
Hanging your pants on it em ? hahahahahaha
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Wendy,....bar room brawls used to always find me somehow, LOL
If they laugh at you, toss your drink in their face, and smack’em with the empty glass. Then duck cause sure as hell somebody is gonna figure it ain’t a fair fight and that’s when the fun starts. Nobody ever hits a lady,…it’s simply not done. See: Bar Room Brawls sec. 1…..etiquette. LOL. You’ll be fine on first tee,….hit it hard !…..it’s gotta land somewhere ! LOL Good luck……….Z.
you're still away,...choke on it !
Crikey 3IRONS
I’m more of a sly “nip ’em in the ankles” type person – and I certainly wouldn’t need to duck :)
Thanks for all the support but I’m going with the “low & slow” advice – slamming it doesn’t work for me.
Now about these bar room brawls “finding” you …………hmmm…
Cold Jumpin Cold...
never mind EM, he’s jealous…STUB
Once again
The Golf Channel proves what a SHAM they are as in not caring about Golf and only caring about Tiger. Tonights Grey Goose 19th hole program proves what an agenda based station they are. 43 minutes of the one hour show was about TW. They showed the Jim Furyk interview again tonight and this time they cut out the part of what he said that I posted above in my blog. I’m not surprised. They left out that part because it didn’t fit into their TW based agenda apparently. What a joke. Not even a mention about this weeks Transitions tournament where, by the way they conducted the interviews with the players. Also I am not at the tournament this week but one of my business partners is and he tells me that many players turned down Golf Channel interviews if the questions were going to be about Tiger. He knows of two player interviews that took place and the Transitions tournament was the topic. Neither interview made it on air. Go figure. One player did speak his mind about TW and the Masters and I’m told it wasn’t pretty and it also didn’t make it on the air. Surprised ? I’m not. Some day another un-biased and sport caring company will start up another Golf Channel and that will be a "Fan"Tastic day.

Why don’t you stop torturing yourself and just stop watching TGC? I’ve basically stopped myself and hardly ever go to TGC.com anymore. They lost a pretty loyal viewer in me as they’ve basically became the TMZ of golf.

Tigerhead
I watch it less and less as time has gone on. This time of year especially when I’m traveling so much. However, being a true fan of the game I do watch most of the tournaments all four days when I’m not working and unfortunatley Thursday and Friday’s broadcast is on TGC for a lot of tournaments. I complain about them in this type of forum and others in the hopes that they will get the message and make some changes. I doubt it ever will at this point until ESPN or someone else steps in with some competition.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Yea
I will watch early round coverage, (no other choice) and I like “The Haney Project”, but that’s about it. And the website frankly sucks. Last time I visited a couple of weeks ago, there were people still complaining about the deleting of posts…lol, what a joke. By the way, they’ll only get the message and make changes if their ratings go down in my opinion.

I’ll wager that the guy who “blistered” TW was a member of “The Empire”. Yes or no ?………..Z.

Accoding to my sources there was only one empire on which “The Sun Never Sets”. LOL (PC will love that one).We Americans know it as the old British Empire……….z.

"We are not amused"
but we’d love to know who it was? I’d go Aussie, Kiwi, S. African before a Brit!
I do hope PC does not stand for Paul Casey – that’s libel you know :0)
Jumpin,
I can just see Arnie, every day, congratulating his Financial advisers for telling him to sell the golf channel and take the loot and run…STUB
Arnie never owned TGC
and Dubya never owned the rangers. They were front men. But it was a good move for Arnie to get away from TGC. It’s a total mess at this point. Maybe a competitive network will show up, and challenge them. Maybe ESPN…..Golf or something.

Palmer/Gibbs started The Golf Channel.................
with an $80 mil loan in 1995. It is now owned 99%by Comcast out of Chicago.
you're still away,...choke on it !
True on both accounts 3irons
What the Golf Channel is now is not what Arnie had in mind AT ALL. Comcast is a Cable TV Marketing Machine that could care less about Golf. Most of the execs. of TGC are former Comcast marketing people. That holds true for Rich ( the drooler ) Lerner. He had no prior affiliation or experience with Golf or Sports prior to joing TGC. He was a Sales and Marketing manager for Comcast. Now he is just a groveling talking head that the players run from when they see him approaching with a microphone. I’ve witnessed it first hand at several tournaments and laughed like hell when I saw it. LOL
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Holy samoly F&G,
ya gotta get your FACTS straight, or this gang will crucify ya…and on top of Arnie owning the GC, Dubya DID IN FACT have his name on the loan papers for the Rangers purchase…I live in Big D, and I know lots of the “owners” of the different franchises here, so know who is on the hook for what funds and where their owed…STUB
