A New Tradition of 56 Minutes of 3-D Golf Action Every Hour
The 2010 Masters will become the first major produced and broadcast in 3-D, Augusta National said in a statement today.
"Innovation has always been part of Masters tradition. Utilizing this technology marks another important milestone in allowing our at-home patrons to better experience the beauty of our course and excitement of our Tournament," Masters Chairman Billy Payne said.
"We consider ourselves fortunate to be a leader in providing this technology, thanks in large part to our valuable partners who share in our commitment to deliver a meaningful and memorable viewing experience."
Each day - Wednesday through Sunday - the tournament will air two hours of 3-D coverage live.
In 3-D, Augusta's 12th looks a little something like this guy's bedroom.
Or you could just go there, like me. (Had to throw that in there.)

At first glance, I thought this might be my across-the-street neighbor’s home, because his bonus room has a painting very similar to that on its walls.
I only realized it wasn’t when I noticed that it doesn’t have the putting green that his room features. Not only does he have a nice artificial green up there, he has a regulation flagstick in the cup.
That’s amazing ! Most people don’t ever get to see the famous Augusta National “Sky Fan” over the 12th that adds to the swirling winds. That guy did a great job decorating that room ! :-D
I know there was a 3D Superbowl commercial in 2009 – does anybody know if you just used the old red/blue 3D glasses to see it ?

That commercial, yes. They are called anaglyph glasses. Laugh if you like, but I have two custom pairs for looking over NASA 3-d images.
The new television technology uses perpindicular polarized glasses, not duo-color analgyph. One side blocks one set of pictures, the other side blocks another set, and the cumulative effect is that you perceive 3-d. Think of it as an advanced version of interlacing such as the 1080i signals most networks use for HD. In that, you get HD by drawing every other line rapidly, 1,3,5 and so and then 2,4,6 and so on. The difference is that 3-D tv is switching screens.

I forgot to add that 3-d tv glasses are active in that they switch each lens on and off as well. They sync to the screen through infrared.
I personally think that this tech is in its early days and will be cheaper, better and more ubiquitous in a few years. This time, I am waiting for the formats to settle and the prices to come down before I even think about getting into it.

hmmmm
Ryan, I see your ticket is for the GWAA meeting only on Wednesday. They don’t let you guys in to see the tournament beyond that ?

After the meeting, you get your pass in. It’s a multi-stage process.

Ryan, what makes you
think you are the only one with tickets to the Masters?…an;y why would you give us the HAHA treatment? and for heaven sakes OMP will you please start speaking English rather than Martian? lol
Ryan, will you be doing your interviews
in the Butler Cabin? Have a great time.
I watch the majority of my golf on my little 23" HDTV. I’m convinced if someone switched the channel back to the normal non-HD channel when I wasn’t watching, I couldn’t tell the difference. That is just the old guy in me, I guess.
I'll keep an eye out for you...at www.oneeyedgolfer.blogspot.com

3D Only Available on Comcast
While DirecTV, ESPN and Discovery were first to say they would have 3DTV broadcasts back at CES, the cable company will actually be the first to deliver it, starting with the Masters Tournament (but why not the 3D broadcast of the Final Four?) April 7-11. That’s right, the first “live next-generation 3D broadcast of a major sporting event on TV, the first live simulcast of a next-gen 3D event online, and the industry’s first live multi-camera next-gen 3D production” will be on cable (& internet), not satellite or telco.
oh perfect – just when I’m about to dump Comcast because of their prices
