The World Cup Goes Biennial (Every Other Year)

The World Cup will not be played in 2010.  Instead, it will be played in 2011 as part of a new biennial schedule for the two-man team competition.  It'll be played in the fall of 2011 at the new Mission Hills Club on Hainan Island.  (You know, the secret one that no one will even acknowledge.)

That delay in scheduling is intentionally geared to line up the World Cup so that it does not compete with the Olympics.  Not that it matters, though, since the World Cup is in November.  If anything, it has to compete with Thanksgiving NFL football.

Anyhow, the purse of the event will increase by $2 million for 2011 to $7.5 million.

I'm still trying to find a time when

golf isn’t competing against another sport for viewers.

We can’t play in January, its playoff football time
We can’t play September to December its football time, pro and college
March isnt good, the NCAA Basketball is going on
Mid April to Mid June there is the NBA and NHL playoffs
July there’s Wimbledon!

When we eliminate all these conflicts the PGA tour will have about 6-10 weeks to play every year.

lol – too true…except maybe for Wimbledon (end of June into the first week of July). Wimbledon is pretty much over by the time golf broadcasting kicks in since it’s 5 hours ahead. six hours for the French.

What’s wrong with The World Cup ? Not a lot of competition between midnight and 6am from the NFL or NBA. :-D

Golf has been and probably always will be a niche sport as far as television is concerned. He Who Is Taking An Indefinite Hiatus Until Nike Says Get Back To Work helped a great deal for a long time, but the truth is that golf’s numbers have never really competed week in and week out with the NFL or Major League Baseball.

What in the world are all you people

blabbing about….blah, blah, blah…Golf is, was and always will be the KING of sports…Take the NFL (please)…any 300 pound idiot who runs full tilt into another person deserves any mental issues that occur…The NBA, if your not a 7 ft freak, what do you care…MLB…if you don’t take steroids, again, what do you care…It’s more fun to watch paint dry than 9 innings of slow death…The same goes for the college level…They play those other sports, because they arn’t good enough or coordinated enough to play golf….Jeeech people….get a life, buy some sticks and get out there….STUB
