Possible New LPGA Event Coming to St. Petersburg, Florida?

Reigning Kraft Nabisco Championship Brittany Lincicome is working on behalf of the LPGA Tour to negotiate a new tournament for the circuit in her home state of Florida.

She tweeted about the meeting today, saying, "I'm meeting with the mayer of st pete to discuss the possibility of getting an LPGA event in st pete florida. How awesome would that be :-) "

When asked about a potential venue for the tournament, she suggested three places: Vinoy Golf Club, Pasadena Yacht & Golf Club, or Bayou Club of Florida.

There are two other another rumored domestic LPGA Tour events being discussed in Florence, SC, and near Charlotte, NC.

The LPGA played in St. Petersburg from 1963 to 1989 under one name or another including USX Classic, Orange Blossom Classic, and the St. Petersburg Open. Kathy Whitworth won it 5 times- 65, 68-70, and 74. The LPGA for I don’t know how long has said only Wright, Sorrenstam and Pak have won the same tournament 5 times. I notified the LPGA. The record book will be fixed.

Another tournament in Florida will be great.

an LPGA event in Florence, SC ? That’s a Future’s Tour size town.

Keep going, ladies. You’ll have a full schedule before you know it.

They used to have an event in Kutztown, PA. Maybe 1000 people live there.
