Are you ready for the Mojo 6 ?

Great to have 3 years of Hana Bank cash heading to the LPGA, but I'm shocked nobody has brought up THE most exciting new entry to the LGPA schedule in...well...FOREVER !!

YES !!  It's the MOJO 6 is on the board and ready to go !! (woohooo...yeah boy...ummmm...yeah)

Ok - are you sitting down ?  This is either going to be a lot of fun, or a huge disaster...in which case we can watch for the crash and burn.  Personally, I like match play, so I'll be looking forward to seeing how this format works out.  I have no idea who came up with this idea or format, but they are calling it Raceway Golf. (no - every hole will not turn left - but for some reason, they thought that tournaments only last 18 holes and that makes up a "marathon" - but we'll let that go for now)

"16 Top LPGA Pros" - right now, the roster is made up of 10 top LPGA pros and 1 amateur...who I am proud to say is a teenager from Georgia...but she is a pretty highly decorated amateur.  So the $1 million purse is down to 15 pros max. (I have no idea how a field of 16 "top lpga pros" can include an amateur)

So, here we go - 16 players...in Jamaica, mon...Day 1 - everybody will play a series of 3 six hole matches with each hole worth a point for a win or half a point for a tie, plus a possible 7th bonus point for a winner.  At the end of every six hole match, players are ranked and the highest ranked player gets to choose their next opponent, and so on down to #8, then they're off to the second match, and the process repeats for the third match of the day.

Are you with me so far ?  After day one, the top 8 players will move on to day two with the usual seedings playing top to bottom (1 vs 8 - 2 vs 7 - 3 vs 6 - 4 vs 5) in another series of six hole matches with winners moving on to the next round.

This is going to require fast starts or fast adjustments if a player loses the first whole or two.  Patience will not be a virtue unless you draw a careless or nervous opponent.  The format is going to force the players to take chances they probably wouldn't take in an 18 hole match - which means upsets are are an even greater possibility than in something like the Accenture Match Play.

Right now, the field consists of Kristy McPherson, Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel,  Ji Yai Shin, Brittany Lang, Cristie Kerr, Christina Kim, Anna Nordqvist, Angela Stanford, and Mariah Stackhouse, the amateur from Georgia.

The Mojo 6 is sheduled for May 1st and 2nd at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course at Rose Hall in Jamaica. (if you like ghost stories, Rose Hall has some really good ones)  CBS will be carrying the action. (if we're lucky, they'll leave Jim Nantz and Phil Sims on the mainland)

I think you guys are really going to like this format. Christina was really jacked for it when we talked about it.

Well, she was a little less than thrilled at some of the replies she got on Twitter a long time back, but I think she is over it now.

must’ve been some pretty crappy tweets to get her upset over something nobody really knows anything about yet

Nahhh, someone was hassling her shortly after the Solheim, and she got really tired of it. Can’t say I blame her. CK is one of my favorite golfers and one that I would really like to meet.

put meeting her high on the list – she is a trip. she let me interrupt her hanging out with her friends at the merchandise show to record a drop for the radio station. she did it several times because she started laughing or didn’t like it herself. not many out there like her.

first whole or two ?

j/k, I knew what you meant court. Sounds kind quirky to me. Is Michael Breed running this tournament ? LOL

wouldn’t THAT be funny ? Put the guy who makes caffeine pills nervous in as the host to oversee the seeding and match changeovers.

I wrote about this...

…when it was first announced a couple of months ago.

It sounds great to me… fast paced, a gorgeous course, ultra-exciting, telegenics players… it’s going to be broadcast on CBS thus more US exposure than most many regular LPGA events… and it seems the format will include eliminations, opponent selection, varying hole set-up, you know, Big-Break-y things that encourage drama. So it definitely has potential. I just hope they promote it well enough so people watch. This is where social media/twitter/etc could really be useful. Hopefully with Christina in the mix that’ll be taken care of ;o)

No need to cross out most :)

Yeah, I think this is going to be a fun event. It’s not official money, which stinks, but maybe the format could catch on and it could become a 64 player field.

Ryan..

I think you need to promote the 64 player field…Now that, with Breed in charge would get me to Jamaica Mon for some of that pulled pork and partying…Well, the Rum too…STUB

they don’t know if this is going to work with 16 players over 2 days – probably ought to hold off on the 64 player field. 64 players in the Accenture with players who take chances is a real drag after the second round.
