Two Superbowl Golf Ads That I Wish Were Shown Today

Every year, there are some Superbowl ads that are controversial, rejected by the broadcast network, or are just plain awesome.  There are two this year that are somewhat related to golf that I wish were shown.

The first is one that was submitted by kgb - the text service that tells you answers to random questions for a buck per pop.  It was rejected by CBS and labeled offensive.

I don't know.  Based upon some of the political leanings (read: ignorance) of some PGA Tour players, that ad isn't all that inaccurate of a portrayal.

The other is totally fictional.  Apparently, Google is launching its first search ad at the Superbowl.  Unfortunately, it's going to be kind of lame.  So the people at Slate decided to make it a little more topical, and exciting.

If only Waggle Room came up in that Uchitel search, we could've all been stars, people.

[H/T to NiceBallz for the kgb ad, and Slate via Winston Wolfe via Steph Wei for the second]

ok – the KGB one was pretty funny – but come on RB – you’re not serious about the Google commercial. Just what do you think Tiger might change the name of Google to once his lawyers get through having the ownership papers transferred to him ?

Haha, they’d have no lawsuit. But I would just like to see it on TV because it would show Google has some serious brass ones – aside from the whole pulling out of China thing.

guess I’m just not a big fan of juvenile cheap shots like that

Re that banned commercial,

those poor stuntmen don’t get paid enough.

It’s a good thing the light show and pyro-technics are really good for this halftime show – this is really awful

Next year's halftime show...

…just show a live feed of how they got that stage set up in 10 minutes and taken down in 10 minutes.

Ok – next year…Cirque du Soleil. The Boss was great last year, but dragging these bands out of the retirement home year after year isn’t working.

(somebody turn off Sims’ microphone – he gave the game to the Colts the entire first half – now he’s singing the praises of the Saints)

Do you think Audi...

…has any idea how right they were with that “Green Police” commercial ?

court,
I loved when Sims said if he was NO he wouldn’t keep blitzing but instead drop an extra man or two into coverage….no sooner were those words out of his mouth, the Saints blitzed and intercepted Manning for a pick-6.
Do you think the Audi Green Police ad was effective? It completely turned me off…I would never buy an Audi…it was just too close to reality.

Nibs......

I heard that…….Maybe he should be coaching……lol. Or maybe it shows how good a game plan Williams had. The Colts outgained the Saints by about 100 yards, but 120 of that was in the last 5 minutes when the Saints were playing prevent. Our defense is much better than the “experts” gave them credit for. We played the 2nd half of the season without our cornerbacks and that took away our ability to be real aggressive……but once we got them back the defense has been tough. And to top it off I won $250 in an office pool……all the guys bought 4 and 5 blocks and I only bought 1……then I ended up with Saints 6 Colts 0….so I thought I had no chance. I wasn’t real happy when Payton went for it on 4th and goal, but we got the 3 anyway…….Cha Ching…….lol

Nibs – honestly – no, I didn’t think it was very effective. At least not for most of us. A commercial filled with people being arrested for living their life – and all of a sudden a German car gets a pass from the police – too much Gestapo for me. And you had no idea it was an Audi commercial until the last few seconds.

Yeah – that Sims comment was perfectly timed – fit in great with the low level of broadcasting for the whole show.

Congrats EM !

Ryan,

ya lost me…You may not agree with some Pros political beliefs (read ignorance) ???? but than, they might not agree with yours…That’s what makes the whole process so good…and I’m with CG, I didn’t think the Google ad that funny either…what we really have to worry about is how insufferable EM is going to be with the Saints winning…STUB

Wendy......

Thanks. It was a great game. The Saints played like they did most of the season and showed how good they are.

Were you as annoyed as I was with Sims and Nantz ? They had written the Saints off the second they went down 10-0

by courtgolf on Feb 8, 2010 10:39 AM EST up reply actions

Court.......Yeah, I really got tired

of all the pre-game hype that gave the game to Peyton. The Saints were just cannon fodder for Peyton and the Colts……but, thankfully they have to play the game and the Saints were the better team….I think the Vikings are better than the Colts…….31-7 after the 1st quarter was pretty impressive.

Yeah, but a lot in the media are calling him

the “best QB of all time.” Too many other names I’d place above his at this point.

Hey, Em, don’t cut yourself constructing those Who Dat Dynasty signs. Be careful. We need you here.

by TXQ on Feb 8, 2010 12:11 PM EST up reply actions

TXQ......He is great, but still a way to go

to be the best of all time. Did you notice that even though we didn’t sack him, the guys were always hitting him or pushing him or just touching him to let him know how close they were. Peyton does not like to get hit and I think they may have affected his timing. He said after the game they never got their rhythm back after the 1st quarter.

I agree that the blitzes did

the trick. A key drop by Garcon didn’t help.

Bottom line: Your guys played better. And had they scored from the one-yard line earlier, could been somewhat of a romp.

Then it would’ve been an Em gloat-athon. (J/K)

by TXQ on Feb 8, 2010 1:07 PM EST up reply actions

No, I wasn’t annoyed with Sims/Nantz for writing off the Saints when they got down 10-0 because honestly I thought they were done also…it looked like Peyton could score everytime he got the ball. Boy, did things change after that onside kick!

by niblic on Feb 8, 2010 12:03 PM EST up reply actions

Nibs.......After watching Brees for the last

4 years, there was no doubt he could bring us back, although I was nervous because we played so poorly against the Vikings. I am glad the nation got to see Brees work his magic and that the MNF game against the PAT’s wasn’t a fluke. I gotta tell ya……it is freakin crazy here……after the game a sports store was open with Saints SB shirts and stuff and the line of people went out the building and all the way around to the back of the building…..and it’s not a small building. We’re all afraid we are going to wake up, and it all will have been a dream…..lol

Nibs – the Saints did way too much this year to be written off in the first quarter. That was completely unprofessional of Nantz and Sims.

I almost fell off the couch laughing at Nantz when the Saints came up with the on-side kick. He said “that’s a huge momentum changer…possibly.” Way to stand your ground, Nantz. (and yes, I know you roomed with Fred Couples in college)

Enjoyed both those commercials, thank you.

Took my first ride on a mountain bike through a trail in the woods the other day, sheer fun! Do yourself a favor, try it!

Just hit me why the KGB commercial got banned...

…remember maybe 3 or 4 Superbowls back, there was a Pepsi (I’m pretty sure it was Pepsi) commercial with a guy at a lunch counter wearing an upside down clown costume (to look like the clown was walking on his hands). The guy ordered a couple of hot dogs and had to eat them through an opening in the crotch, then drank the Pepsi through the same hole. People in the diner were getting sick watching it. It was only on once due to huge complaints about it – but it was absolutely hilarious.

Now you have two guys with their heads up their butts talking politics and the “global warming” scam ? Had to be the same kind of complaints.
