Tom Watson Is Taking Hump Day A Little Too Literally
Tom Watson agreed to play in the Dubai Desert Classic at age 60, probably in part because of some appearance fee that he was promised. But, Tour players also often get some pretty cool tours of their golfing surroundings. Tom and his wife Hilary took advantage by visiting the Jumeirah Bab Al Shams Desert Resort after his second round in Dubai.
Tom got to ride the humps, the lovely lady lumps, of a camel.
He also got to spend some time with a falconer.
One time, I got to ride an elephant at the Renaissance Fair (the photo isn't me). I mean, I didn't think an elephant had anything to do with the Renaissance. Then again, neither do turkey legs, girls wearing push up bras and too much make up, or beaded necklaces. But, hey, I'm not complaining about any of those things.

“probably in part because of some appearance fee that he was promised.” Either you’re the most naive twit on the planet or you’re being ironic. I’ve got to belive it’s the latter not eh former.
You’re probably the most illiterate commenter, so I’m not really worried about your perception of what I write.

And, yes, I’m invoking a new policy here. I can insult the commenters if they insult me. (Just don’t cuss.)

Ryan:
I may be a lot of things, but illiterate isn’t one of them. I do have the occasional typo… I believe it was you in your announcement you’d been accepted into the GWAA you said you learned from people that don’t agree with you… In that vein you have a lot to learn…from me. While decrying the tabloid nature of the Tiger Woods story, we we’ve been fed a steady diet of it. The reasoning: There’s nothing else to talk about…. You said it “sometimes
results in very good discussion”…. My assessment would be it “rarely” results in good disussion. The majority of the posts were variations on the usual anit-Tiger diatribes, and oh God, the endless speculation! My abiding question about blogs, and this one in particular is, who pays the bills? Are the number of comments a measuring stick of some kind. If numbers are important, then I can understand the need to exploit stories like Tiger, or lately Nobilo. The matter of Tournament golf is often relagated to a minor position. But, as I said to WendyUK, bloggers have a distinct inability to stay on subject, many comment only to demonstrate their self perceived ability to entertain. Perhaps that falls in your definition of “very good discussion”. To your remark this is not a journalism site, I can only say…DUH! or maybe….meh….
Living in Britain, we have probably the worst tabloids in the world.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the broadsheets. These, backed up by political parties, generally print the news. The tabloids, have the crap on ( gossip ) that sells. At work, no one reads the news…just the crap. It does sell. It’s on TV and the internet. Sky Sports news here spends more time on the gossip than the sport itself. Reality shows feed the subjects that appear on them. Ryan has some very good stories, such as the recent groove issue. But picking up on gossip or what Tiger is doing or Phil, has a certain tabloid nature to it. It makes discussion here…the fact that people drift on a certain blog only shows that story was not that interesting in the first place. One can’t win them all. As for youth, I’m aching from working too much lately, wish I was younger. But as I have gotten older, I realise I know very little, even though I know a lot more than 30 years ago. I can’t always remember that when I disagree with someone..but I never did when I was young.
WendyUK
No beef at all. Tom Watson is behaving like a professional golfer, making money whatever way possible. These are called “photo ops”…. Wendy, did you take a look at Ryan’s “girls wearing push up bras and too much make up” link? Surely golf journalism at it’s finest! And em66: Where can I get my “I love Ryan T-shirt” ? Surely you and a majority of the people who comment here must have one!
My "What's your beef" was for Ryan - I couldn't see his angle
Honestly haven’ t looked at the other links. Will do. Whatever it leads to, I don’t seek confrontation – but I don’t back down from it either. I think Ryan does an incredible job on here, but my record of disagreeing with him speaks for itself.
I just wanted to post it. I don’t have any beef.

Stub, I just love the flavor of Cajun Blackened Texas Gulf Shrimp on the grill. I can almost taste them now. Saturday afternoon in Nov., perfect Florida weather, with some neighbors eating the shrimp I won off ya and watching the Fall Series. It’s all good. I’m looking for my girls Petterson & Nordvquist to have a good season.

BTW
I respect Tom Watson for coming forward and speaking his mind. Like all of us we have a right to our opinions.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Toms comments were offensive ?
hahahaha, say it ain’t so Joe. Nuh Uh. Well if thats true from now on all broadcast interviews will have to come with a pre-interview warning that says , “This interview contains offensive comments” O’h the Horror"
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Jumpn.....No Tom's comments weren't offensive.......
that sarcasm button on my keyboard is not working again…..WHO DAT!!!!
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Here's MY beef with Watson...
He should stop dying his hair! When you’ve got “turkey neck” you’ve got gray hair.
Well
At least Tom doesn’t have one of those stupid pony tails you see older men walk around with these days. HEY Gentleman, HINT " It doesn’t make you look any younger, it makes you look like an old guy with a pony tail is all"
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Another reason to like him
From Jason Sobel re Jimenez: “People hang on his every word, even his prepostions. He can speak French ….in Russian”
True Wendy
However Jiminez is quite a bit YOUNGER than Tom and he has more of a bun in the back rather than a pony or pigtail. I’m talking guys that are going bald and 60 plus. I’m a big fan of Jiminez both on and off the links.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Yes, I agree that it's not normally a good look
but I had just been watching Jimenez when I saw your comment. Believe you me, he now has a really long frizzy ponytail – but I still love him on and off the links, too. That goes for Tom as well.
He speaks excellent English
it’s just that his Spanish lisp (Malaga pronunciation) makes it impossible to understand a word of it, bless him.
Sorry for Lee, but that final putt from Miguel was so cool.
Lee is looking at majors ..
those putts he missed in the playoff reminded me of the Open…shaved every hole. If they drop, he will win a few. Sometimes his chipping is clubsy by his standards…but this is the year to strike, if he can.
At ease, Easing, you've got
a steady excuse. We’ll always figure your typos are simply UK terms for whatever. Such a deal.

Know the feeling
Even when I think I have proofread – but glares after posting, doesn’t it?! Both Lee’s missed putts (to win) came up short, I thought, rather than shaved the hole? Still think he’s going to have a super (Ryder Cup) year, however.
Yes, they were short...
just reminded me of the Open when he putted so close…shaving the hole. I only saw highlights..I’m not all there today…cream crakered as they say :)
Besides Poulter
Jiminez has the most fashionable golf shoes on tour.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Do you think
there’ll be much traffic on here re Ryder Cup? Disappointed that over on the other golf website I used to follow (no, not TGC) there was minimal interest. .Perhaps I’ll look at archives and then ask Ryan.
There'll be plenty of traffic, Wendy,
especially once we go off-topic. (J/K)
And re typos (no biggie anyway), misspelled words are underscored in red on this blog.
by TXQ on Feb 8, 2010 2:27 PM EST up reply actions
I can preposition when I pay attention
“Word” is always trying to correct my spelling. Enjoy typing “Bog Off” in return. One day I ’ll jump out of my skin, if it asks “Did you mean …….”
