THE EVENING BEFORE THE MASTERS ???

How DARE THEY ! Are they trying to upstage the first major of the year ? Upstage the legacy of (standing and covering my heart) Bobby Jones ?? How ARROGANT can these people be ?

This is just WRONG WRONG WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!

I’m going to demand an invitation to this obviously staged fiasco because I have questions that I have a right to answers to !!!!!!!!!

(oh wait – that stuff only works from inside the union)

DM

yea, they have to join the union and pay dues, otherwise they get blacklisted and can’t find work….STUB

Is that why Ryan is stuck writing this silly little blog? (j/k)

The last time I checked the focus of a union is to negotiate compensation and working conditions.

and to do those things – they demand control over the behavior of the people in the union…things like not accepting invitations to the TIger Woods “gathering” last week.

not every union sticks to the classical definition of a union – like the NFL, MLB, NBA….

People who were in the GWAA still attended Tiger’s thing, btw.

It was just a vote of the GWAA’s board on their pool thing with Tiger’s camp. Members attended to attend, though.

That “vote” was pretty darn stern and the public outrage (real or imagined) was pretty clear that the GWAA was not going to support that speech. Say what you want – they were very clear in their message.

It's a club

Player Associations negotiate compensation and work rules. The GWAA does not. It’s not a union as you’re defining it, is it?

Can GWAA ask its member to refrain from attending an event? Sure they can, but it has no force behind it. They are not going to kick a writer out of their club if the writer chooses to attend anyway.

Better get a replay of their announcement last week. They were very adamant about their stance as an organization against “the gathering”.

No matter how adamant, it’s just a club with some fairly strict membership requirements that requested its members not participate in an event. That does not make it a union. A union is a very specific type of organization. The one I belonged to was pretty good most of the time.
