Who In the Heck Is Ben Fox?
Camilo Villegas went through TPC Scottsdale on Thursday in 62 shots, but the name that probably has a lot of people scratching their heads is Ben Fox. Fox was -5 through 17 holes, but a bogey at the last put him on -4. After a very pedestrian from nine (-1), Fox rattled off five birdies - including one at 16 - against two bogeys.
Does anyone know who this guy - ranked 1013th in the world - is?
Fox played his college golf at University of Arizona. In 2006 as a freshman, he was selected to play in the USA China Friendship Cup. That year, he was second on the team in scoring.
Prior to his entry at Arizona, Fox was a well-hyped amateur in North Hollywood. He was featured in 2005 LA Times high school spotlight piece, which made Fox's talents appear more incredible because his high school had no golf team. Despite his 5'7" stature, he rattled drives consistently over 280 yards.
2006 was a breakout year for him at U of A. The '07 campaign was not as good.
Ben turned pro for 2008 and had a rough go of it. He played in just one PGA Tour event, missing the cut at Justin Timberlake's Vegas event. He made it through local qualifying for the Open, but did not advance to Torrey Pines.
Fox spent most of his '08 year on the Canadian Tour. He played 12 events there, finishing 4th as his best effort, but missed five cuts.
In 2009, he continued to struggle as a pro. Again, he made one start on the PGA Tour - this time in Mayakoba - and missed the cut. He tried to Monday qualify in Vegas and the Fall Series event in Arizona and was unable to do so, though he was close. Fox played no other Tour last year and did not make it far in Q-school.
Just last week, he played in Mayakoba and missed the cut by four.
Fox is coached by Brady Riggs, who also is the man behind Anthony Kim's swing.

OK,
let me ask the obvioous….with all his past successes, how did he get into this event?…STUB
He has spent some time on the Canadian circuit and some mini tours, but still doesn’t have any PGA Tour or Nationwide status.
He got into the Mayakoba and Phoenix tournaments through the Four Spot qualifier on Monday along with Braxton Marquez,Philip Francis, and Bret Guetz.
