Rosie Jones is Your New Solheim Cup Captain

Just minutes ago, the LPGA Tour announced that Rosie Jones will be the Solheim Cup captain for 2011, that will be played in Ireland.

"I am honored and absolutely ecstatic to be chosen as the 2011 Solheim Cup captain," said Jones, in a release. "The Solheim Cup has been a huge part of my career as a player, and now it will be even more exciting as I prepare for what promises to be another great Solheim Cup in Ireland. I couldn’t be more proud to represent the United States and have the opportunity to lead our players across the pond to Killeen Castle to retain the Cup."

Jones was a member of the first Solheim team in '90 and a staple of seven American teams throughout her career.

Jones was chosen by a selection committee comprised of the past three U.S. team captains, the LPGA Board Chairman, President of the LPGA Executive Committee, and the LPGA Commissioner.

Juli Inkster, who played her final Solheim Cup this past fall and will surely captain the US squad soon, said, "She’ll bring a lot of energy to the team. I know this is something she’s wanted for a long time. I think she deserves this, she’s earned it. As far as Solheim Cup play goes, there is not a better competitor than Rosie Jones. I’m really excited for her."

"Rosie is a wonderful choice who will be a very popular and well-supported captain," said Michelle Ellis, President, LPGA Executive Committee and one of the people responsible for Jones' selection.

"She will embrace this position not only with her arms but also with her heart."

I thought it was almost a lock for Juli Inkster. Jones is a good choice, however, and hopefully we can keep the Cup for our side.

That’s “Atlanta resident, Rosie Jones” thank you very much. :-)

I don't care what Julie says...

If she’s playing well and Rosie asks her to play, do you really think she’ll refuse?

I do suspect Rosie will ask her to be an assistant captain.

those were my thoughts while reading

If Juli’s standing in the stats qualifies her, I bet she’ll play. Otherwise she’ll refuse being a captain’s pick. Assistant captain in preparation for 2013 is most likely. Go Rosie!

Placebos, of course, are things you have to swallow even though they contain nothing that actually helps you. It's like American health insurance in a pill. -BiPM

That I am…but just by a mile or so. I moved out of one county to escape one liberal who used to spend her summers down in Cuba with Fidel, and I’ll never move inside the city limits because of corruption, crime, and an overwhelming number of welfare recipients nearly equal to the number of people who actually live there and pay taxes.

Sounds basically like they tax you to death in Fulton County and that the government is as it was for the past 40-odd years…something akin to a third world banana republic.

We did much the same thing here in Raleigh, even though things are nowhere near as bad. Our mayor used to be a client of mine, so I know him on that basis and consider him to be pretty much of an idiot. His pet project is to build up the downtown area to the detriment of the rest of the city. Oddly enough he and his friends have a lot of real estate down there, go figure.

SO I hear you.

Sounds about right. We’ve had 6 generations of cronies going back to Maynard Jackson with one term from Andrew Young breaking the string in the middle. When Maynard died, the city ran a contest to decide how best to memorialize the godfather of Atlanta politics, which ended up being adding his name to the Airport. The suggestion I sent in was to have his picture added to the welfare checks, since he’s where all of this mess started. (can’t believe they rejected it !) :-D

Getting serious here,

I know, sometimes it’s hard to do, but I’m still gonna try….I think that the election to captain of Rosie is a good thing…She still has lots of fire, and will be able to transfer that to the players….As for Julie…yea, her time will come, but I’m not so sure that Rosie would pick her to be an assistant…very different personalities…This will be very interesting to watch unfold…and remember, this is contested over the pond, not US soil…STUB

you’d prefer to have Inkster as a captain in the States…or not on European soil ?

I think I read somewhere that before they let someone be a captain they have to serve as an assistant captain first? Someone please confirm.
