Maybe I Was A Source for Golfweek (Or Not)
Remember last week when I told you that three anchors were let go by Golf Channel? Well, Golfweek has a story this week about it on page twelve of their magazine.
I wonder who the source was. Me? Golf Channel's talent bio website (though noobie Win McMurry isn't there yet)? Golf Channel's PR guy Dan Higgins? One of the four anchors that they discussed? Someone else entirely?
Anyhow, if it's me, I'm flattered.

Now if you
would have only written that for Tilghman, Lerner and Sands, that might have been a major accomplishment….By the way, not having anything better to do, I watched the GC last evening, with Michael Breed…I found my self getting as hyper as he is just from watching, and had to have another libation to calm myself…He did have some good tips and gave them in a manner most could understand…His bringing on the lady to reenact her hybrid shot was a great gimmick…Can you report on the others???….STUB
I was saying to someone the other day that the weird camera angles kind of throw me off, but I like Mike Breed. He’s a smart guy, offers good info, and has a lot of enthusiasm. That’s awesome.

I too found a few good tips from Michael Breed.
Waiting for his upcoming special, Best of Breed.
Not trying to be a name dropper, but I got to exchange a few sentences with Breed in Orlando last week. Told him that I really like the hour long format more than the half hour show where he looked like he was doing it all in one breath. He said he really liked being able to slow down a bit, too.
However, if you watched the show last week, a lot of his lesson time was spent on exactly the same things he did this week – three iron vs a hybrid – spin rates – running back and forth to his readout board that gave him his numbers (which were getting posted way to slow). It’s going to take him a while to add more variety, but this could be a really good show for xxx Golf Channel. (sure beats Micelli and whoever giving dumb reactions to dumb questions in their PTI ripoff – or the Grey Goose 19th Hole show)
On the other side of the coin – I met him in Orlando last year and he really IS that hyper. Talk about a big ball of energy running around…I was tired just listening to him talk with Sam from EyeLine golf.

I'm definitely a fan
At first I didn’t like the pace of his show, but I gave it a chance and I’m a huge fan at this point. I love his knowledge and style. The high energy is a little off-putting to some people, but I figure what the hell, the guy is amped so why should that bother me?
I haven’t checked out the hour long show yet, but my Tivo is on the job and I’m getting whatever he puts out there for viewing at a later time.
How would
you like to be paying this guy for an hours lesson….Who would be more spent, pupil or teacher…and TX, ya jist had to do it agin din’t ya….STUB
Speaking of Haney,
I expect The Haney Project with Ray Romano will be pretty entertaining. Romano’s got a decent swing and a great sense of humor. (His TV show “Men of a Certain Age” is excellent.)
I like Barkley too, but that wasn’t a hitch, more like a tape delay.
I like Ray Romano, too – along with Men of a Certain Age – but I can’t shake this feeling that I get when I see the commercials that he’s going to be acting while taking his lessons. How can you be serious about learning anything when you think you have to come up with one liners all the time ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I do that all the time, Court,
except for the “serious about learning anything” part.

Oh, those are one liners...learned something new today.......lol
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
That's always better than learning
something old.

I’m curious to see how it goes with Romano. Totally different character and golf game than Sir Charles.

It's gonna all hinge on how much
his mother Marie interferes.

the show with Romano will be excellent. he is very funny and serious about his golf game. you can be humorous and a good golfer at the same time. think Gary McCord, David Feherty, Peter Jacobsen, Payne Stewart,…………………………………….

Payne Stewart ? David Feherty ? I don’t remember Feherty on the course aside from one Ryder Cup and he was anything but funny. (to listen to him, he was ready to throw up from being so nervous in his singles match with Payne Stewart) McCord wasn’t an on course clown until later in his career and into his Champions Tour career when he was already doing TV. Same with Jacobsen – he was locked in when the round was going on.

"he is very funny and serious about his golf game"
that is the KEY PHRASE there. that doesn’t mean that they were doing a stand up routine while playing their round. it means that they are humorous and they were skilled golfers. the point being that because Ray Romano is a comedian will not preclude him from taking golf seriously. speaking of which, you take yourself way too seriously.

I saw what you wrote – and didn’t say a person can’t be serious about a game AND be funny. you picked four accomplished professionals who weren’t in need of lessons like Romano – and none of those guys were stand-up comedians / actors.
All I said was that I wondered if he could be serious about his lesson and be “on” (as in performing for TV) at the same time.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Did you see Men of a Certain Age this week ? Romano is a scratch golfer on the show getting thoughts of the senior tour
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Yep. Good episode, IMO.
And Romano’s swing looked pretty damn good. But that 12-handicap bookie had a horrible chipping swing in Ray’s office. You can tell he’s no golfer.
Really good acting in this show. Romano surprised me. Andre Braugher I knew would be excellent. The fantastic Frank Pembleton, in one of the best shows ever.

I can see it now...
…just had a funny picture of RB going to the Golf Writers Association meetings….after giving the secret handshake to get in, he looks around the room…“hey (insert name here) ! I saw that article you wrote using my idea from the week before !!….yeah, you too (insert name here)…” (lol)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
It doesn’t happen often. Every now and then, though.
