Segway Plus Trikke Equals Mantys: The One Person Golf Cart

At the PGA Show, I heard from Rob Hayashida at Golf Views about this golf cart that was for a single person.  I was kind of intrigued by the idea, but I never got around to finding it.  Rob did me - and the world - a favor, though, and shot some video of the Mantys.

The only way that I can describe this thing as a combination of a Segway and the Trikke - an obscenely overpriced piece of equipment that is like a scooter, tricycle, and rollerblades COMBINED. But just look at the Trikke go!

In summary: Trikke + Segway = Mantys.

Segway is still a lot cooler – and you know all of the UK is laughing – only an American would come up with something like this…JUST WALK ! :-D

RB – did you see the single player cart designed for the handicapped ? Three wheels, amazing mobility and stability, and best of all, it stands you up so you can swing almost normally. It was amazing.

I didn’t, but that sounds pretty awesome. Do you have a picture of it?

I saw a golfing segway last year. It was just a regular segway with a big bag clip on it.

Go to Vets-Help.org (worth a read by itself) Scroll down to the red Stand up and Play text – just below it is a graphic drawing of a guy standing up with a cart and a picture of a guy in a white shirt. Click that link and then on The Paragolfer link.

That Trikke thing actually looks like it might be pretty good exercise.

Good Excerise, bad idea.

We’ve done 1000’s of miles on Rails to Trails facilities on our tandem, and I’ve done a whole lot more on a single bike. To make this trikke thing go forward you need weave from side to side. That’s impractical if there are others around, either bikes, people on roller blades, walkers or runners. I can’t see using on the road. About the best I can see it used for is going around a vacant parking lot.

have you seen the x-games kids on these trikkes ? pretty amazing the kinds of tricks they can pull on them.

Looks pretty neat, but

I’m not sure how I would explain getting injured on a one-man golf cart…..a what? Yeah, broke my leg riding a one-man golf cart……..I probably won’t use one.

The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!

and you were also watching a Saints game on some gadget when you fell.

The Kangaroo Kaddy

I’ve never understood why this type of club carrier hasn’t become more popular. I always have been fortunate enough to be able to walk. I used one of these for years. I don’t see very many around….

Kangaroo Kaddy – that’s one of the battery powered “push cart” types – right ? I saw some in Scotland, but never here in the states…but the ones in Scotland belonged to the courses. They were kind of heavy for personal use.

Check out the “new and improved” Clicgear push cart at clicgear.com

You’ll love this – my brother found out that the club where he lives allows carts and carrying, but not push carts…in FLORIDA ! Geez. How can you tell members that they can walk the course but not with a push cart ?

Yep, that's the machine Court. To me it seems like perfect solution for walking.

My Kangaroo broke down into three pieces plus the battery. Sure, it’s not exactly light and you do have to assemble and disassemble it, and it’s not cheap… But I prefer it much more than riding.

These battery-powered push carts

used to be sneered at a few years ago, (only old men, da da) but I see more and more of them on our courses now. I have one (Go Kart). The only problem is that on the rare occasion something goes wrong with it, and I have to revert to my old pull cart, boy, do I notice the difference going uphill. That’s weird about being able to use buggies as we call them, but not push carts. I know courses where buggies and push carts would both be banned under wet conditions as their weight churns up the fairway more than standard pull carts.

Wendy:

Having worked in golf course maintenance, I’m VERY familiar with the damage a buggie can do on a wet day when it’s requested that they stay on the paved cart paths.

by pingforever on Feb 2, 2010 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

Ping - pls. explain further

Pls. excuse my ignorance, but does that mean buggies are NOT supposed to go on the fairway at all under these conditionsl? I mean, are you supposed to park on the cart path, walk to the middle of the fairway (assuming you’ve hit a decent shot), hit the ball, walk back to the buggie, etc, etc?

My Go Kart is not exactly light, but as a 7 stone weakling, I can manage to lift it in/out of the car trunk OK. (Although “somone” normally takes over, as apparently only he can load the trunk properly!).

Not to worry, Wendy,

your greenskeeper told me your iron play does decidedly more fairway damage than your buggie.

by TXQ on Feb 2, 2010 2:08 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, Wendy

that’s exactly what it means. Needless to say it’s a PITA! We had yardages marked on our paved paths. Smart players would take two or three clubs with them when they walked to their ball. Many year ago I played at fabled Pinehurst #2 here. It was mid summer and very dry, but they didn’t want buggies wandering everywhere so it was either hire a caddy (which I did) or rent a buggy and keep it on the path…During my years in maintenance I’ve seen some ugly buggy driving…Driving almost onto the green made me crazy. FYI: even though the foot print of a buggy is small, we have heavy soils that are easily compacted…. Sorry if this is TMI…

AAAARRRRGH !!

Is there anything more frustrating than being behind the guys who don’t take multiple clubs across the fairway on those cartpath only days ? And they never RUN back across when they figure out that they need half a club more or less for this shot to win the US Open…it’s always a leisurly pace back and forth and back again.

Like TX jist said

and if there is more than one, that makes it easier to hit them.. Course, Wendy can’t hit it far enough to even cause consternation….hahahah….that’l show her to side with.EM and the Saints…come to think about it, I don’t see Wendy knowing any saints…STUB

Roger Moore, maybe.

Truth be told, I’m guessin’ Wendy’s saintlier than most all of us.

by TXQ on Feb 2, 2010 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

I'm such a martyr

Nope, can’t claim to be a long-hitter (v. straight though) but then my course isn’t long enough to attract the young bombers, so I hit as long as most people here.

I’m still not 100% sure that you’re not winding me up about buggies on US courses. Why aren’t they simply banned if course conditions merit? Also it’s alien to me as none of the courses I have played on either here in UK or abroad have anything but odd bits of dirt track as “cart paths”. I suspect you all play on superior courses to me.

I can see why rounds take 4 + hours, which would drive me nuts, and elicit non-saintly language.
