Details of How the Tiger Orchestra Will Be Conducted Tomorrow

Tiger Woods is set to speak at the clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass tomorrow morning at 11am.  According to his agent Mark Steinberg, Woods will "start making amends" which will likely include an apology of some sort, a discussion of his past, and potentially some mention of his future plans.

Woods will deliver these remarks in a room with one pool camera, a reporter from each of the three major wire services - AP (presumably represented by Doug Ferguson), Reuters (Mark Lamport-Stokes), and Bloomberg (Mike Buteau, who broke the story of the announcement).

In addition, Steinberg left it up to GWAA President Vartan Kupelian to determine three other reporters that would also serve as "pool reporters" for the event.  Steve Elling had originally disclosed that those reporters are Kupelian, ESPN's Bob Harig (who lives in Florida), and Mark Soltau, the man who runs Tiger Woods' website and reports for Golf Digest, who has an instructional materials contract with Woods.

As of approximately 8:30pm ET this evening, the board members of the Golf Writers Association of America voted overwhelmingly not to participate in the reporter pool tomorrow.  Jon Show at Sports Business Journal sent messages about the vote on Twitter.  19 to boycott, 4 not, and three to abstain.

Vartan Kupelian said, “The position, simply put, is all or none. This is a major story of international scope. To limit the ability of journalists to attend, listen, see and question Woods goes against the grain of everything we believe.”

As has been repeated, Woods will not take questions on camera, though it seems possible that Woods may speak with the pool reporters for a brief time after his remarks - albeit off camera.

The pool reporters will share their notes and observations with other credentialed media that have either requested that information electronically, or will non-pool media that will be gathered at the Sawgrass Marriott near the clubhouse where Woods will speak.

The event is being handled largely by ETW Corporation, which Stephanie Wei and I have previously reported on as Woods' private corporation to handle a host of business matters such as this one.

With all of those known details disclosed, it still seems like a fluid situation.  The PGA Tour said that they offered the clubhouse to Woods without any questions and knowledge of the remarks Woods intends to make.  Reporters who have been invited to cover the event in the pool have said they're not very certain of the details or schedule, aside from the 11am start time.

Further, what Woods will say is anyone's guess.  Several Clear Channel radio stations in North Carolina were claiming to have had a segment of Woods' prepared statement tomorrow.  Those reports have been declined by Woods' representation.

Rumors have also been surfacing today that Woods will announce his intention to play in next week's PGA Tour stop at TPC Scottsdale.  Those rumors were likely fueled by Mark Steinberg's comment that Woods' announcement could not wait until Monday.  The deadline to enter the Scottsdale event is 3pm Arizona time tomorrow.

Skeptics of that rumor suggest that the timing is intended to serve as payback to Accenture, which was the first Woods sponsor to drop him after his car accident and revelations of infidelity.  Tour players, including Ernie Els and Rory McIlroy, suggested such in public comments yesterday.

Others suggest that the standard public relations practice of announcing bad news on a Friday is what prompts the announcement.  Still, Woods could make such an announcement on any Friday.

We will see what Woods chooses to reveal at 11am tomorrow, and have coverage here at Waggle Room.

Interesting stuff – sounds like Woods is picking up the cost of everything, with his company making the arrangments. (which could also explain why it’s being kept to such a small number. who could afford all those doughnuts and coffees ??) :-)

not buying Scottsdale, though. If for no other reason than the 16th hole. They didn’t have control of the crowd last time he was there when some clown rolled oranges across his path, and someone stepped in front of him nearly causing Woods to twist an ankle.

I Can Hardly Wait

…for the firestorm that this will cause.

It has to happen eventually, and hopefully it won’t be long until Woods is back and the course and the tabloid media finds a new tart to show half-naked pictures of.

OMP, this is

going to take one llllooooooong time to die down….both men and women have been very vocal and with definite beliefs. If these are not just the so called fringe fans, but real honest to goodness golfers/fans, he could be in for a bumpy ride at least for the 2K10 season…the media slugs that he ignored have long memories, and a forum to use as their stage…STUB

…well if that is the case, then I will give Team Tiger a pass for what I called selfish, arrogant behavior. A pass mind you because they didn’t give this information out yesterday when they announced their plan. I heard on TGC telecast that Steinberg said words to the effect about Els and his statement, that he should get his facts straight before he says something. Well, duh, how is he (or I) supposed to get his facts straight if you don’t tell us? Team Tiger is holding all the cards here, they could have announced yesterday that there was a good reason why the announcement had to be made this Friday and also that they had cleared it with Accenture and meant no harm to this week’s tournament sponsor…but they didn’t!

a pass mind you not an apology…

Oh i'm sure

Your Pass goes well with their Kiss our collective Arse. All of the stalkers will be tuned in tomorrow for the “news of the day”, then they will post all sorts of tomfoolery. As for an apology. Who cares about the Accenture Match Play? He made that tournament go last year, and he’s giving it a bump this year. If he didn’t do this Friday news release, the tournament would just be the match play to most people, but now it’s the Accenture match play, because of the “he’s angry, and this is his way to get them back” angle. So he by virtue of his overwhelming importance, is giving Accenture a bump. They’re relevant (for a day). You though…….um get a pass.

I think

Alex Micili is the one who owes an apology. Perhaps he had a point, but to go on a rant like that was uncalled for, in my opinion. Just saying he could have have voiced his opinion in a more professional manner.

It was a calculated

Move tigerhead. He’s relevant now. Professionalism today is overrated. It’s all about making a splash. Brit Hume made a splash. Mention Tiger’s name, and voila!! you will be in the news. Ernie Who??? Oh yeah i remember him now. Mention Tiger’s name, and poof you have a voice. Bow Tie knew what he was doing. I think he played the game well. He’s relevant: For a day or two. In case TGC pulls the plug on him. His resume’ starts with this. I dared to speak against Tiger Woods. He’ll be working for Accenture soon thereafter.

I don't know F&G

I think it was more than that. There was real anger in his voice, maybe even some hatred. In my opinion it was a personal attack. I’ve always liked Micili and respect him for speaking his mind, but I think he crossed the line there.

"Tiger is going to keep up the pressure on Elin to attend this event until the last minute," the source told RadarOnline.com. "Right now, she’s still saying no. Could she change her mind? Yes. But she’s not the type of woman to be used as a prop so he’s got a difficult task ahead in getting her to go."

Miceili's attitude

AM’s rant was merely an echoe of the sentiments making the rounds here in Marana. This is one pissed off group of players, however, it is ONLY 64. From the players to the organizers to the volunteers,…Woods is getting no sympathy. I overheard Stephen Ames talking to an IMG rep, and he made Miceili look like a choir boy ! Woods was never the “most popular” guy on Tour, and he’s pretty much hit bottom around here. Even Stricker offered a terse “no comment” when asked. If he comes out for the Phx Open, it will be a huge mistake. People in Az are already pissed that he ‘s snubbed Phx for years,….and now the “pay back” gathering opposite ACCENTURE’s Tuscon event. Throw in a over a hundred thousand “well lubricated” patrons, and this will get ugly. I worked security for one Phx Open years ago, but you couldn’t pay me enough try that next week if Woods plays. We had a guy throw an orange at him, and one guy had an "unloaded "revolver in his pack back. That was the last time Woods played Phx and the fans here have not forgotten. I seriously hope he takes a pass on next week. I would be seriously concerned for his welfare. Too much alcohol and too much resentment. Play Tavistock and take the safe route. Maybe he’s just announcing his divorce or separation ? Just sayin’………………….Z.

I don’t see how bad fan behavior that causes Tiger not to want to play there anymore is Tiger’s fault. I guess it’s easier to call Woods names than it is to get mad at a couple of guys in the crowd who give everybody a bad name.

Have to agree with you – Phoenix would be a terrible idea for a comeback.

Tiger’s little event on Friday has people talking about taking away from Match Play TV time – but the Accenture doesn’t start until 2. What IS getting preempted is the LPGA coverage that starts at 10 am and runs until noon.

There’s no grassy knoll in the area, is there? Just checking. Some people are still kind of sore.

It's a crazy week for golf

every year that tournament is on. I suppose it has it’s place, but it seems to have more importance of beer sales than who is competing…unique, but that dosn’t make it good. Give it a miss.

At 11:00 am Eastern this morning

All media throughout the universe will cease it’s regularly scheduled programming and switch to the Tiger Woods announcement. Following the announcement, every available talking head will spend the following 48 hours analyzing every word Tiger utters, every nuance, any and all body language.
