Twelve Americans done and

only eight left. Those eight have 36 total tour wins and three majors. Yeah, golf is wonderful without Tiger. He had those numbers by the time he was twenty-seven.

I am afraid to project winners for fear I’ll be right and have to watch on TV.

I'll keep an eye out for you...at www.oneeyedgolfer.blogspot.com

awww... come on

This is world match play, not the Ryder Cup or the Olympics. Does country or continent of origin really matter to anyone? If so, why?

do you not think that the Irish are upset that Harrington lost and are celebrating McIllroy ? How about South Africans ? Not sure if they’re pulling for Els, Goosen, and Clark who all won ?

Only Americans think it’s a problem to pull for Americans. Come on D – it’s golf – if you want to be a little nationalistic, it’s nothing to feel guilty about.

wasn’t talking about OEG – was talking about D

I know

but my comment is still valid

no – it’s not – D’s point was that it is bad for Americans to pull for Americans – my point was that pulling for your countrymen goes on all over the place – but only in America is it viewed as a bad thing.

Root for whoever's on top of the

leaderboard. That’s the American way!

 Don’t get paranoid, Court.

conversely

If Goosen wins the whole thing are Americans expected to be all bummed out because a South African won?

if you want to be – sure. but that wasn’t the point. you asked if origin mattered to “anyone” – I gave you examples that it does to some people – but it’s only some Americans who say that pulling for Americans is a bad thing.

I don’t think it’s bad. I think it’s silly. But question was why do it?

because some people are proud of their country and it’s fun to pull for someone you have something in common with ?

next vacation – go to a UK country during world cup soccer play – you’ll see some wild nationalism.

world cup is composed of NATIONAL TEAM

a little nationalism is appropriate, as it is during the Olympics. It’s silly when the event is composed of an international collection of free agents (mercenaries with golf clubs?).

Love the phrase

Jones: 5/8, Hogan: 7/8, Player: 6/8, Snead: 6/8 (24/32)
Final 8 left: 4/8 (awful!)
Final 4 left: 2/4
Of course my winner was Stricker, so my only hope is Els making it to the finals.
Killer picks: Stricker, Perry (had going to the quarters), Kjeldsen (to the quarters), Toms (to the quarters)
Lucky guesses: Ben Crane (ha!), Anders Hansen, Jaidee.
If I could quit after round one I’d be the winner in my pool! But I lose half of my sweet 16 brackets and other guys still have a chance to win it all.

not bad ! I’ve seen a lot of NCAA brackets that don’t do that well in the first round, and this is a lot more volatile.

but why did I have to have my first round losers going so deep? That’s what is going to kill me. And of course the points get higher as the field gets smaller. I could really use Schwarzel upsetting Furyk, Donald taking out Allenby, and Kuchar taking JM Singh. If these don’t go my way all of my eggs are in Els basket! I

Maybe you could root for Furyk, Allenby, and Singh today!!?? hee hee ;-)

Only Furyk,

because he’s American, the others are not, so that’s what you get for not going Nationalistic…is Els carrying a basket?…sorry Red..:) LOL…STUB

It's carnage!

Like a lot of other people I managed 21 right for the 1st round, but down to 6 from the 2nd round. Still some favourites standing fortunately.
