EA Sports Unveils 36" Club for Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf '11 for Wii

As Conan O'Brien used to say when he did his fake ad mistakes bit, "You can't even make this stuff up.  And why would you?  You'd just be wasting everyone's time."  But, this time, it's true.

Wii lovers, your will finally be able to simulate real golf in your living room with a club that can be extended up to 36" for use in EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 2011.  The Sportress strikes again with the find.

So, now while you're playing golf, you can laugh at any of a string of one-liners about:

  • Back window of an SUV
  • The heroism of Elin
  • Driving an Escalade at 2:00 am
  • Busting some teeth with a golf club
  • AND MANY, MANY MORE!

But, here are some suggestions from the EA Sports official message boards that weren't heeded.  Again, totally true.

From plix3110: "[O]ur golfer shouldn't be playing by himself. Next year they should make it a OPTION (keyword) for us to be able to play with a partner. You can turn it on or off when starting career."

I think he was really just beginning to play with a partner.

From tigerwoodsforprez: "Shafting clubs individually, nothings worse than having a voodoo on your putter."

Seems more like a personal problem.

Reserve your copy today!  It comes out in June.

Does it come with a ,,

Fire Hydrant and phone for texting. Perhaps it should come with a GPS for directions to the local CVS to get Diapers at 2:30 in the morning. ;o)

My question is:

Is EA going to embed an “Easter-egg” that allows one to, after winning a tournament, fly off to Vegas and nail a waitress. ’Cause without that, the game will remain somewhat unrealistic.

Perhaps it won't cause me to have elbow issues like the Wiimote does.

I take a regular swing and it says my power is 70%. Swing like a mad demon and I get to 95%. Needless to say, I don’t play TW’10 frequently.

when you say that you “swing”, are you swinging like you do over a real golf ball ?

As I understand the regular Wii, it works better with just the quick movements you can get from just the elbow and wrist, turning the hand over from palm up to palm down. Is that right ?

It may be yet another “me-too” product, but Microsoft is going to take the Wii’s interface one better, and as far as golf simulation, you will be able to use a real club:

Real club is pretty cool. I’m still not sold that using either is totally unsafe.

There was a “real club” interface at the ‘09 Merchandise Show and it was pretty cool. You didn’t even need a net because the ball was on sort of a swivel or tether, and the sensors were all in the mat. It was pretty cool, but I don’t think they ever got to market with it.

Sounds cool. But then again, playing a golf simulator with my own clubs sounds like a lot of fun too.

I got an XBOX360 some time back, and now it is either a Netflix streamer or once in a while, a good way to blow off some steam by playing a racing game. Playing “real” golf sounds like fun.

This one was pretty cool. They had plans to have their system set up so people could use this simulator to play along with the field at Bethpage Black last year, but I never heard what happened to the idea. They could have sold a lot of units with an offer like that.
