Callaway CEO Fellows: Groove Fight "Just A Distraction"
Callaway CEO George Fellows was on Bloomberg TV this afternoon to talk about his company's prospects for rebounding in this economy. Of course, the 800 pound gorilla in the room - Phil and the Ping Eye 2s - came up in the interview. At about the 1:40 mark, Fellows addresses the topic.
"I think all of this is really a distraction," Fellows said. "The fact is that the wedge Phil used is perfectly legal. It was countenanced by the PGA Tour...and any comments to the contrary is absurd."
"The rule, however, is something that is still in question, and it's an issue that we're all dealing with right now."
Really? It's a question? Does he know something that we don't?

Do you think George was wishing he was talking to someone who had any sort of clue about golf ? Except for “countenanced by the PGA Tour”, he did a very good job.
Yep – it’s a question – the players are going to whine and stamp their feet to get their spin back, and the manufacturers are going to back the players. Until they are convinced the rule isn’t going away, they are going to spin it as “a question” – using the word to sound less argumentative.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Fair enough. Fellows was he and his players to have the right reserved to whine and moan.

Since this is the first article, I'll write here....
Take a look fellow bloggers, 10 articles in the green box and NOT ONE dealing with Tiger Woods or the scandal! This suggests we’ve turned the corner. The “conversation” has shifted to the media driven (non) controversy about the arcane matter of grooves. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I don’t think it’s too far fetched to believe promoting the Mickelson vs. McCarron conflict can only be beneficial. Once you’ve got the word “cheater” floating around, you’ve got something to write about. I waiting for the interview with the men’s room attendant at August National to “weigh in”………
You realized something I said on Twitter the other night – hey, at least we’re not talking Tiger anymore…
