Quick! Snatch Up Your Ping Eye 2s on eBay! Lots Available!

A Waggle Room reader sent me a very astute question this morning when asking me how hard it would be to come by Ping Eye 2 wedges that fit through the loophole.  I had no idea, but I figured the best place to look for them would be eBay.  So, that's what I did.

Doing a very basic eBay search for "Ping Eye 2 wedges," I got 200 results from eBay.  The prices ranged wildly from $5.95 to someone asking almost $500 for a PE2 beryllium lob wedge

Pingeye2_medium

Thank goodness, no one has bid on it.

A good chunk of the listings have the date of manufacturing and promote that they have square grooves, and are approved for play by professionals.  Some carry wrong information in them, too.  And, of course since it's eBay, caveat emptor to any pro that looks to use these in play.  Check with Ping using the serial number!

I would guess that a lot of these guys were watching at the start of the season, heard about the loophole, went to their garage to see if they had a club, and then posted it on eBay within the hour.

Ping Eye 2s could be like the new baseball cards.  Hopefully you didn't abuse them like you did that Mickey Mantle rookie card that you attached to the spokes of your bike with a clothespin to make an engine sound.

You feel real stupid about doing that now, huh?

you had better be nice to me or I’ll bet on the Saints(the ultimate curse!)

by niblic on Feb 1, 2010 3:44 PM EST up reply actions

Okay, niblic, who are you

and what have you done with the real niblic?

by TXQ on Feb 1, 2010 3:49 PM EST up reply actions

still waiting for you to show a link where double negative is defined as….

“states simply that a double negative must convey the opposite of what the writer meant to say.”

…is that better?

by niblic on Feb 1, 2010 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

No, it's a relapse, but

here’s a good example:

“Don’t use no double negatives.”

The writer (not me) is actually advising to use double negatives, but he didn’t mean to say that, thus it’s a true double neg.

That’s what the Catholic school sisters taught me, though I called one of the slower ones Nun Sequitur.

by TXQ on Feb 1, 2010 4:37 PM EST up reply actions

I can agree with that…it is a double negative. But so is ping’s example…“I don’t dislike JD”. What is still in dispute is where you came to the conclusion that ALL double negatives must convey the opposite meaning that the writer intended. Remember, we learned yesterday that in Shakespeare’s day, it was common to use a double negative to emphasize the meaning. I seriously doubt if Shakespeare conveyed a meaning that he did not intend to convey.
So once again, I’ll ask you as civilly as I possibly can, to just kindly show where you came to the conclusion…"states simply that a double negative must convey the opposite of what the writer meant to say."

As a rule of thumb, whenever you use terms such as “must” and “all” and “never” in describing the English language, you are just setting yourself up to be wrong, and indeed wrong you are!

by niblic on Feb 1, 2010 5:16 PM EST up reply actions

I appreciate the civility. Don't want you to

herniate yourself (J/K), but that’s why I said “true” double neg. Those are the one that need correcting.

by TXQ on Feb 1, 2010 5:20 PM EST up reply actions

I never asked for nor stated that any correction was necessary. I simply identified a double negative on ping’s part, and you took it upon yourself to enter the fray and say that it was NOT a double negative. Now that we have agreed that you were wrong, we can move on.

by niblic on Feb 1, 2010 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

There are various types of double negs.

I brought to light the important one.

And i’d never want any words of yours even near my mouth. But congrats on not cursing. Major accomplishment.

Maturity’s now just a few miles away.

by TXQ on Feb 1, 2010 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

O really? I’d be very interested in learning about those various types…strange that you can’t direct me to your source for that arcane knowledge?

by niblic on Feb 1, 2010 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

Even stranger that your avocation

is alienating yourself on a daily basis. You’re about as popular as diphtheria.

by TXQ on Feb 1, 2010 6:06 PM EST up reply actions

Popularity…not my thing. Truth…ahh yes, there’s the thing. Being right, much like virtue, is it’s own reward. Being stubborn, and refusing to admit that you are wrong, that just makes you look foolish, and yes, immature.

by niblic on Feb 1, 2010 6:10 PM EST up reply actions

So now it’s there are various types of double negatives, whereas yesterday you said, and I quote…“Certainly don’t wanna enter this fray, but "don’t dislike" is not a double negative”

You can squirm all you like but I’ve caught you in a mistake….you might as well learn from Tiger and admit it.

by niblic on Feb 1, 2010 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

Yikes. How fast was the train going

when it hit you in the head?

No doubt you think you’re impressing people when you post your daily venom. Double yikes.

I’m done with you. Find your next host.

by TXQ on Feb 1, 2010 6:13 PM EST up reply actions

how about this from the Uncyclopedia?

“Other kinds of double negative:

Sometimes, sentences such as “it doesn’t not work”, “I don’t disagree” or “Mr. Jones was not incompetent” are said to contain double negatives (since the “not” and the “dis/un” cancel each other out). However, such sentences are quite distinct from the “I don’t have no apples” kind of double negative. The former kind merely involve two negatives canceling each other out, and are found both in dialects which have the “no apples” kind of double negative and in dialects which don’t. Indeed, there are no dialects in which “I don’t disagree” means the same as “I disagree”. In contrast, the latter kind involve quantificational phrases such as “no apples” showing negative agreement because they are within the scope of a negative operator such as “not” — a distinct grammatical phenomenon, found in many other languages and nonstandard English dialects, but not in standard English."

by em66 on Feb 1, 2010 7:05 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks court…I can agree with “types” or “kinds” of double negatives. TXQ has introduced “types” of double negatives himself….
“There are various types of double negs. I brought to light the important one.”
…the fact still remains, and I have posted it here in black and white, that TXQ said…"but “don’t dislike” is not a double negative". Now TXQ could make a case that his quote was not one type of double negative or another, but the sheer fact that “don’t dislike” contains 2 negatives makes it a “double negative”. DUH

by niblic on Feb 1, 2010 7:59 PM EST up reply actions

Suggesting it was not a double neg

as most people know them, the kind that doesn’t make sense.

Please give it a rest. Find a new challenge for that mind of yours.

No thanks….I enjoy this. And your sentence….“Suggesting it was not a double neg as most people know them, the kind that doesn’t make sense.”…doesn’t make sense either. But even while lacking sense, it does prove that you were wrong when you said…
"Certainly don’t wanna enter this fray, but “don’t dislike” is not a double negative"
Like I said about 20 posts ago, as soon as you admit you were wrong, we can move on. Everyone else already knows it, I just like to see how long you’ll go stubbornly refusing to admit you’re wrong.
