With Woods In Contention, Chevron Challenge TV Ratings Were Best In Years

Photo

Television ratings for the weekend have come out, and as expected, NBC's coverage of the Chevron Challenge had good numbers.  The AP reports that

Tigers Woods can still draw television viewers.

His playoff loss at the Chevron World Challenge drew the tournament's highest preliminary rating for the final round in eight years. U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell's comeback victory earned a 2.7 overnight rating for Sunday's round. That's up 170 percent from last year.

It's the best since a 3.1 in 2002, when Padraig Harrington beat Woods by two strokes.

This good news has certain got to lend a little Christmas cheer to the seemingly embattled PGA Tour, which has seen their ratings drop in a year in which Woods has not won and hasn't even been a reliable contender.  With Tiger apparently rounding back into form, and proving that he can still bring the viewers when he contends, things are looking up in Pontre Vedra Beach, not to mention the executive offices of NBC and CBS Sports.

Everyone accepts Tiger is news, good or bad.

And with the media frenzy we have today, the “in the hole” morons are breeding out of control. When Tiger missed that putt in the playoff, I bet half of them wanted to end it all.

Easy,,,I have a good solution to that..

Give the Marshals at each hole a shot gun….When some idiot yells that, they can than dispatch them on the spot….after about 2-3 events, I guarantee it would be all over…..STUB

ahhhhhh

True the ratings were up, however they have no way of knowing it was ALL due to Tiger in the field. Perhaps 50 % of the folks watching wanted to see this years US OPEN and multiple season WINNER McDowell kick tigers butt. Jes sayin. O’h the Hype of it all. LOL

The PGA tour can't rely on Woods forever.

He has only a few years left, then he will retire. That’s when a world tour will emerge, IMO
