President Obama needs a Mulligan on his golf duds

December 30 -- President Obama takes a lot of heat for playing too much golf, but to PGA golf pro-in waiting Matt Frey, it’s the Duffer-in-Chief’s links-wear that deserves trashing.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for President [Barack] Obama," Frey wrote on his "Golf Today" blog Wednesday, "[but] his shirt is not of the right cut."

Frey, a recent college grad with a "PGA Golf Management option," said tacky threads on the golf course make him "cringe," even if it’s the president of the United States suffering a wardrobe malfunction. In the case of Obama, Frey believes a tapered polo or a smaller shirt would help POTUS sport a slimmer figure out on the fairways.

"Someone should really tell him to buy a medium next time," Frey typed. "That’s change I can believe in."

Star-divide

But Frey was not finished with the Obama makeover. There’s the little matter of the president’s headgear.

"Please invest in a new cap," Frey implored, "this one [from a recent photo of Obama golfing in Hawaii] looks like it was hung off your clubs, which were then placed in a closet under two fifty pound boxes." Ouch!

A_medium

Frey’s suggestion for the leader of the free world? Have PGA professional and golf director John Lyberger at nearby Congressional Country Club help him take an ensemble Mulligan. "He’s right down the road from the White House and he won The PGA’s Merchandiser of the Year Award in 2008," Frey noted, "so he’ll be able to pick out the right [duds] for you."

Oh, and don’t even get Frey started on former President Bill Clinton. "Wrong, wrong, wrong," was Frey’s admonition about the "wild and busy" shirts and "too short" shorts that Hillary’s husband favored.

As for W, Frey liked the way the second President Bush presented himself at the outset of a round. By the second hole, not so much.

"His presentation went horribly awry, maybe because it was hot outside," Frey observed. "Either way, my advice: keep at least one button buttoned."

Yep, Obama joins other noted Democrat and left-handed presidents:

  1. 38th Gerald Ford
  2. 40th Ronald Reagan
  3. 41st George H.W. Bush

CG, you really, really need to stop listening to Limbaugh and Beck. You’re smarter than that. Nothing the president has said or done could even be remotely construed as what you’ve described. The only reason I can think of that would cause you to think that way is that as a conservative, you’re basically fearful of any change whatsoever.

And like Charles, I voted for RR twice (actually four times, I lived in Calif when he was Gov) and GHWB once. Charles probably voted for Clinton in ’92 too, just like I did.

The fact that women are more than 50% of the electorate means you’ll probably see more Dems elected than you’d like.

don’t listen to either one – and the facts speak for themselves. Obama was swept into office on the basis of skin color and a really big Xerox bill for all those “change” signs. To this day, whenever I ask one of the “yes we did” bumper sticker people just what they did – the only answer I get is that “we” put an African-American in office. They have no clue what the man stands for – but they know what color his skin is.

I don’t care who you voted for – it’s just a shame that you don’t pay attention to the character of the people you vote for. (sadly – we might have been better off not electing anybody in ’08 since neither choice was very good)

Nah – I hope that some day women will stop voting emotionally and start thinking about these people…but it’s just a hope for now.

not the east coast, we only had about 3 inches on the ground at the beginning of the week. by tuesday we got some warming and some rain. up to 65* today. we found a course with decent drainage so the mud was almost nonexistent (don’t ask me about the 16th tee). were in calif at the beginning of last month. as for how i played? about average and i hadn’t picked up a stick in two months, my draw off the tee has turned into a freakin’ hook, got 260 off 17th the tee when it ran down the cart path (lmao). are you getting out to play.

haven’t played in weeks – it’s been miserably cold here with snow and rain most of the last two weeks. Today would have been a good day to get out, but that work thing got in the way. Might get to hit some balls at the range tomorrow.

Nope

Most people voted for him because he wasn’t John McCain and that dimwitted twit. Personally, I never thought I’d see a president who wasn’t a white guy, so I’m surprised about that, but skin color had nothing to do with my vote. If that’s the only answer you get from people, you’re asking folks as dimwitted as McCain’s running mate. The hope and change thing is a slogan. Change was easy, Dick Cheney is no longer controlling public policy.

Character? The president is intelligent and has the best interests of the largest segment of the population at heart (middle class). I wish you’d share where you’re getting your extreme ideas from. They don’t reflect the reality I see.

lol – you’re really funny tonight. you know good and well what I was talking about – the whole world watched the man give inspiring speeches when he was reading and babbled like an idiot without one. He’s…still……..the same….way.

Just what do you think will happen if you legislate to support those who want the government to pay their way from cradle to grave. The people who don’t contribute will drain the bank dry. The government does not generate income – it syphons money from those who produce. I can’t believe someone with your intelligence can’t understand this very basic point. Obama and his cronies want as many people depending on the goverment as possible.

but in hard times when there is no jobs ( the rest of the 3rd world is taking them away) how do you look after the people unemployed ? That too is a basic point, is it not ?

by Easingwold on Jan 1, 2011 6:41 AM EST up reply actions

what do you do when you have a government bent on destroying jobs, then “creating” jobs that depend on the government….which in turn demands more funds from the people actually making the economy work ?

by Easingwold on Jan 1, 2011 4:18 PM EST up reply actions

well – in today’s case – how about locking up this government…or sending them to China and Europe where they’ll be happy in socialist and communist countries ? :-)

honestly – I’m not sure you you take care of people that have been put out of work by a government bent on destroying the economy.

I would have no problem if the people who want to live under the government’s thumb continue to do so – but they have to contribute something – if it’s just picking up trash or painting walls or cooking or sewing…something. BUT – if you sign on for welfare, you sign away your vote, and you sign away the right to have kids. No more welfare baby factories that grow up to also be leaches on society.

Build or repair housing for them – and make sure the criminal element stays out. Help those who need it get off drugs and alcohol dependence. I’ve seen too many kids go through their school years and not learn how to read or write or do basic math or speak English. These are things that should be learned before getting out of elementary school.

Most of all – you have to get out of the pockets of the people and companies who produce. Stop pointing the gun of the IRS and the government at the people who live by the rules and work and take care of themselves and their families.

You should really watch a few minutes of the link I provided, CG. Your republican propaganda channel, as you’ve noted in the past, doesn’t really show much of the president, so how would you know he doesn’t “babble like an idiot?”

When your gods of free enterprise rape the economy, someone needs to step in. Unregulated capitalism brought us to the point we are now. Without some government action we’d all be standing in bread lines. Oh, wait, you wouldn’t because you’re part of the oligarchy, right?

now THAT’S what we’ve come to know and love about the left – when there is no defense of a point, the name calling starts. once again – I am not a Republican. If you would pay attention, I condemn bad leadership on both sides of the aisle – it just happens that there is more to condemn on the left because of the constant disregard for the Constitution.

There are more multimillionaire Democrats in Congress than Republicans. Many of those Democrats made their milllions from the "evil"capitalists they condemn.

“gods of free enterprise” ? just who are you talking about ? it’s free enterprise that RUNS the economy. yes – there are corrupt people in industry – but you only see one or two and conclude that all successful people are the same.

Court

I asked about the families on welfare now. What does any government do about all of them without jobs ? If, jobs have gone abroad and the US imports more and you have 10 million unemployed, what would you do ? Solutions are much more difficult than ideoligy alone can provide. You say take away someones right to have children. What about the ones that are here? already ?

by Easingwold on Jan 3, 2011 5:41 AM EST up reply actions

I answered that – it was very clear – did you just miss it ?

And what about people who already have kids ? That can’t be as ridiculous a question as it sounds. Were you expecting some sort of canibalism answer ?

The problem we have in this country is the change from manufacturing to technology. The more technology you have, the fewer people you need to do jobs. We have way too many people who want to teach kids how to hug in school instead of learning language and math and science. We give a pass to gang kids and athletes who create problems in class instead of making sure they are prepared for future jobs. We just don’t have that many jobs in farming and manufacturing and janitorial areas.

That problem is all over the rich western world court.

And it won’t go away tomorrow. You seem to be blaming the unruly kids in school. Do you honestly think full employment is attainable these days ? Not with the technology now. Where I work, we make 6 times more with 10 times less people. And it still is not enough. You have a go at Obama, yet you have no real answers to the current problems of the un employed. Business alone won’t solve it.

by Easingwold on Jan 3, 2011 11:05 AM EST up reply actions

Full employment has never been attainable – it’s a bogus statement. There will always be unemployed people.

Obama and his cronies are a huge reason we have so many unemployed and an even bigger reason why the housing market collapsed.

Be as glib as you want, but there are no easy answers to any of these questions, and as long as the government wants to run everything, nothing is going to get better.

Diane is right

These things ddn’t just happen in the last 24 months court. Most of the unemployment in the West is simply the rest of the world under cutting us. I bet some of the clothes you wear were made in China. It doesn’t matter what President you have things won’t change much in the next few years. The days when 1 country can force the rest of the world to dance it’s tune are long gone. The world is too small.

This housing mess started with Jimmy Carter – Bill Clinton compounded the problem by forcing lenders to give loans to people who couldn’t or wouldn’t pay them back, then at the end of his time in office, he removed several laws that put lenders on the hook and made it very difficult for them to do business correctly.

It was because of the colour of his skin

MLK became what he did. His character had to develop the way it did in the face of “white supremacy.” Unfortunatly, it got him killed as well. Things are a lot better now but there is still a long way to go. Obama got a lot of votes because he was black, that is true. But he also got in because there was no real alternative with the Republicans. They gave it their best shot under Bush and his inept replacements were never going to get in.

by Easingwold on Jan 1, 2011 6:39 AM EST up reply actions

very true – the Republicans put out a horrible ticket. McCain was a scary combination of the worst of both parties, and if you questioned him, he pulled out the guilt card reminding people that he was a POW in Viet Nam.

Obama was the shiny new toy and people/lemmings lined up with their xeroxed signs with no clue what they were voting for. Pretty sad, eh ?
