Introducing Waggle Room Staff Writer Emily Kay

Site Announcement:

I'd like to take a moment to formally introduce Emily Kay, who has been writing many an article for Waggle Room over the past few weeks.  You've no doubt seen her stories, and possibly been wondering who she is and what her role over here is, so I thought I would clear it up a bit for everyone, and please accept my apology for not doing it sooner.  Briefly, here's a little bit about her personally:

Never one to miss an emergency golf opportunity, Emily keeps her clubs in her car all year - even though she lives in Chelmsford, Mass., where the golf season is woefully short. An 11-ish handicapper, she has won multiple titles at her home course as well as in tournaments across New England. A writer by trade (Masters degree in journalism from American University - let’s just say sometime last century), Emily is a scratch golfer in her mind. Check her out on the Waggle Room, National Golf Examiner, Boston Golf Examiner, New England Golf Monthly, and, soon, GottaGoGolf websites.

Emily has graciously agreed to take on the role of staff writer here, which of course means more content for you to peruse whenever you come to Waggle Room.  She clearly loves golf, and we've had some great discussions behind the scenes about the game's current state, where it may be headed and also a bit of the history that's led up to the present.  Emily is also well connected, and has already gotten Waggle Room some national attention recently when her articles have been featured on and reblogged by traditional media sources such as USA Today and also Golf.com, which is a CNN/Sports Illustrated site.  The reason that they featured some of her work?  Because she broke some news, and she did it here first.

Emily is also not shy about sharing her opinion, which I find refreshing, even when I don't always agree with her take....and that's because I don't always agree with anyone's take every single time.

Please give her a warm welcome...

(Please read on for a quick discussion about how I view the future of Waggle Room and what it means for me, and for you.)

Star-divide

Finally, some folks have wondered if Emily's presence means that I am reducing my role at Waggle Room or that perhaps I may be leaving.  I can assure that neither of those things are going to happen, and that I plan to remain in my role as Managing Editor and Senior Writer here for some time to come.  What's happening is simple: my vision of Waggle Room is that it has more than one voice, more than one perspective and always has something new and interesting for you to see when you come...even if you log in here several times a day.

I view this site as more of a community than any other thing, and it's my heartfelt view that you, the reader, should feel free to share your opinion either in Fan Posts or in the comments section to any articles.  Disagree with me?  Fine...say so!  Disagree with Emily Kay or any other writer, that's fine too.  Just post your opinion in the comments!  My only rule about that is that I expect folks to use their social graces and be civil about whatever it is that they intend to say.

All that said, I am very pleased you have taken the time to come to the site for some golf talk and news.  Thanks!

Best regards,
Charles Boyer

welcome Emily – though with the weather right now, a lot of us will be hesitant to give away anything warm. (lol)

Welcome Emily, that’s great news! For other Waggleroom readers, I’ve corresponded with Emily for quite a while and have met her as well. We write for the same publication here in New England and have appeared on a local radio show. She brings great insight and has a wonderful personality and a spitfire sense of humor which she doesn’t mind sharing. She’ll be a great addition here!

Thank you for clearing that up, Charles

I did ask Emily where & WHY she blew in from after her first blog, but didn’t get an answer. You’re a great addition, Emily, as evidenced by the traffic on your posts. I’m sure you can take the flak that they sometimes engender.

You Can Always Email Me

Link is up in the tips, and as Em and Court can attest, I answer those mails pretty quickly.

I've e-mailed Ryan in the past, Charles, both with queries & suggested topics

but felt a bit in no-mans-land on this occasion. Daft really, when I know if I pose a straight question to you I’ll get a straight answer.

by WendyUK on Dec 13, 2010 6:28 PM EST up reply actions

Wendy, your emails are always welcome, and on any subject.

Don’t worry about being daft, I certainly am a good bit of the day.

Thank you for the clarification,

and Welcome, Kay.

I really enjoy having a place where you can find newsworthy golf topics AND have a discussion about them.

I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
