LPGA Set To Give Up "Female At Birth" Rule
The LPGA plans to put a special vote to its membership to modify its membership rule in regards to gender.
According to Randall Mell at Golfchannel.com:
the LPGA is preparing to propose in a player meeting Nov. 30 at the LPGA Tour Championship in Orlando that its “female at birth” requirement for membership be changed to allow transgender membership.
The constitutional change requires approval of two-thirds of the LPGA’s membership.
In a special “one-agenda item” meeting at the Hana Bank Championship in South Korea at the end of October, LPGA players were briefed on the upcoming vote and the vital nature of it. According to sources familiar with the meeting, LPGA players were told the “female at birth” provision was created “in a different time” and would be a significant challenge to defend legally today. Players were also informed that the International Olympic Committee, the U.S. Golf Association, the Ladies European Tour and the British Ladies Golf Union are among sports organizations that have already amended their bylaws to allow transgender participation.
The rule change comes in direct response to the lawsuit initiated by Lana Lawless, who is claiming that the LPGA rule violates California civil rights law and that it has affected her ability to earn a living as a golf professional. Her lawyer recently clarified that claim to the public, stating that LPGA membership is required for Lawless to pursue employment as a teaching professional.

Incredible.
Stuff like this causes people to not take the LPGA seriously. I will be shocked if two-thirds of the membership approve the motion.
Of course, the LPGA “powers that be” probably figured there was a small enough number of potential players this would actually affect.

On the other hand, CD, the LPGA will very likely be able to plan half a season’s worth of tournaments in San Francisco. :-D
I disagree with this just on basic principle – but it’s not like sex changes are new, and as far as we know, there has only been one “person” try to play high level professional golf – and that was a miserable failure. One “person” has won a sideshow event (the SWAT guy who won the long drive contest), and that wasn’t very impressive. The one attempt to play professional women’s tennis was also a huge failure.
What amazes me is that women aren’t up in arms about altered men being allowed to play in their league. As protective as women are about their money, I’m shocked that women aren’t screaming about “greedy” men stealing from them and demanding federal legislation to stop it.

I think it will pass
Women tend to not be as up-tight about people who differ from the norm. Your “failures” prove that transsexual athletes don’t have an advantage over “female at birth” athletes. At least be honest and admit your objection is based on the ewww factor. 8-)

Oh – no doubt about it. I think there are a really tiny percentage of people in the world gullible enough to believe garbage like “I’m a woman trapped in a man’s body” (as opposed to the vast majority of us men who have laughed at or tried the old “I’m a lesbian trapped in a man’s body” as a pick up line) :-D
Genes are genes – one set says you’re a man – the other says you’re a woman.
Now – just to throw a wrench in the fire. (yes – one of our on air “talents” actually said that – he also said “throw a monkey in the wrench”) – what happens when one of these better living through chemistry types figures out a way to counteract the muscle weakening affects of the estrogen cocktail these people have to take to “become a woman”, and give these “women” the testosterone based strength they had before starting the drugs and had the surgery ?

by the way – I really doubt that most women are truly accepting of these people. being the “I don’t want any drama” creatures that you are, a lot of women say a lot of things that they don’t mean just to be politically correct and avoid being seen as controversial or “uncaring”.

in a perfect world
No one would have Klinefelter’s Syndrome (XXY). In a perfect world, women would pop out perfect babies, every time. The world isn’t perfect.

Ok – so since you’re teaching genetics today – just how is it that these things only became a “problem” in the last 30 years ?

Maybe because it’s only in the last thirty years that the human genome has been decoded?

the human genome hasn’t been “decoded” – it has been observed. decoding is a project that will be going on for a very long time. Personally, I don’t buy into this idea that “scientists” have found the gene that controls every decision and preference we make. Too many variables – and according to these genome people – we are nothing but robots with computer programs deciding everything for us.

People were already arguing about the fact that there were too many Asian LPGA players, now there’s gonna be katoys (thai for Ladyboys) on tour :) …Why not make a different tour? The LKPGA tour…Could be entertaining…:)

lol – I haven’t taken the IOC seriously since ’72 – should probably be earlier than that with the East German men/women. The teams that want to cheat are almost always ahead of the people trying to catch them.

No big deal
or how about “teacup in a storm”. Can hardly see hundreds of men undergoing painful surgery in order to compete on LPGA Tour, can you?
I’m not sure who these timid beings are that Court refers to. Caring & controversial are not mutually exclusive, surely?
Slightly puzzled why Lawless requires LPGA membership to be a teaching pro though – would it matter which tour membership she had?
Which membership ya wanna give
hin / her Wendy? mens, womens or others…….STUB
family ? (lol)

Her, STUB
if that’s what she feels & it’s not important which membership. I don’t understand why the men on here feel so threatened by this issue. Somebody else’s sexuality doesn’t impinge on ours.
why do you women always jump to words like “threatened” ? we’re looking out for YOU ! (well…unless the lights at the bar are too dim and you can’t see who you’re chatting up…but I digress) :-D
Look at it this way – if a man walked into the women’s locker room, there would be screams for police to come in and take the “pervert” away. In this case – it’s a man who put on a woman suit and you have no problems with him roaming around in the shower with you.
Just once I’d like to meet a woman who depends more on right and wrong than she does on emotion.

I got a feeling Wendy will rip your face off either way……:)

You've probably come across countless women
who are more logical/pragmatic than you – but your notions of masculinity would no doubt be threatened by them too. Why on earth do women need looking out for from another woman – albeit not the most feminine of looking women? A man who walks into the womens locker room is not a pervert – opportunist perhaps? More likely to get a knee in the groins if his looks don’t justify bravado.
If it helps, Court, I’m prepared to make a sworn statement that there never has been, is not, & never will be a connection of any kind between you & Lana Lawless. OK?
psst – they aren’t women ! they are men who took drugs to bump up the estrogen levels, then had the naughty bits cut off and bumpers installed. It doesn’t matter what kind of fantasy you choose to live in with these people – but a fake woman is still a man, and vice versa. Why is it so difficult to understand this ?
Why would I care what you do or say about Lana Lawless…an interesting name for a former SWAT officer, don’t you think ? If I met him tomorrow, it wouldn’t make any difference to me – he’s a human being and could be very nice person – but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s still a man with a box full of chemicals and some surgery.

Ah, not true...A friend of mine
alebet damm drunk, went looking for his wife, wandered into the ladies locker room and was removed by the cops and he was considered a pervert….We questioned him rather severly, but he never would tell what he saw…However, a rather contented look would come over his face whilst we were drilling him….STUB
Oh yes, and I heard that
his wife made sure it was even more sheltered after the event…..I just thought about it whilst chuckling over the event, and come to think of it, I can’t recall that he ever played with any of the old group again….Very Interesting……STUB
OMP, we needs pitchers
a that skank…cud send them to Tiger….hahahahaha…..STUB
PC my hairy ####
This PC stuff has gone way to far, so now you going to have “women” who drive the ball 320 yards on an LPGA set up course…go figure, the world has gone mad! IMHO it sucks…no tthat I have anything derogatory to say about trans genders its a perosnal issue thatsnone of my business., its just that there is a reason there is a champions tour, regular tour and lady’s tour…its about capability, strength and ability…and i am not a chavenist wendy and C&P…:)

Well, you can be up in arms about it in principle if you want,
but in practice, it won’t matter one of my flying figs.
As I said, I can’t see a queue of men wanting to undergo transgender surgery with the intent of playing on the LPGA, and if Lawless requires this ruling in order to become a teaching pro.
can’t see that the LPGA Tour has anything to worry about.
wait…Wendy has flying figs ? (more importantly, Roy – if you’re going to get up in arms, be sure to use deodorant) :-D

Just an aside...
She doesn’t need to join the LPGA to be a teaching pro. She can join the PGA, so she is not being denied anything. Seems to me that she is grandstanding or trying to make some sort of heroic point for her kind. I don’t have a problem with her being a non playing member, but I do take issue with the possibility of someone playing professional golf who was male at birth.
The only reason this is being entertained, is because of the potential for lawsuits and it “would be a significant challenge to defend legally today”. It’s got nothing to do with what is right or wrong, but rather, what is PC and that’s what I object to most of all.
That's the point I was querying, Chip
If it’s purely a matter of being a teaching pro then Lawless can do so under PGA umbrella.
I agree that wanting to do so under LPGA is either a matter of grandstanding or making a stand for being accepted as a woman (depending on your point of view).
If there are female parameters for strength (or whatever other measurements there are in golf, e.g. swing speed) as long as Lawless meets them, I don’t see the problem.
I don’t see that as PC, but simply rational.
lol – a drug induced replica of a woman with his naughty bits cut off – yeah – that’s rational.
You can get a certificatoin as an LPGA instructor under the umbrella of the LPGA – but you have to be a woman. BUT – you can be male or female and get PGA of America certification. There isn’t a similar certification under the PGA Tour.

Wendy - there are no such
parameters in place re swing speed. But even if the wriggly bits have been cut off, she will always have the advantage of an extra four five inches in height and a different skeleton than any real woman out there. She’s taller, has wider shoulders and has a different hip and pelvis, than if she had been born a woman. As such, she will or at least should, be able to create more swing speed. No amount of hormone therapy will change that. That’s an unfair advantage.
so true..
there’s a very famous BoxeThai fighter who’s a Trans and she/he is fighting in the boys league..and winning!! Ok no trans ever won anything “yet” in sport in western countries, but once this all deal will get started and trans get to practice and become pros , who’s to say the worst won’t happen? And once en route, how to move backwards and reform the all mess..? Take back their rights?…mission impossible. This must be thoroughly thought of.

My Dad used to say
“A good big ’un will always beat a good little ’un” when watching boxing.
I’m not convinced that this necessarily applies to golf and would back Ai Miyazato/Jiyai Shin against Lawless any day.
If some of us have our doubts about whether TW can regain his former level after all he has been through this last year, I have personal doubts whether a “good” player could achieve any where near his/her same level after undergoing gender transfer surgery/hormone treatment.
Having said that, if that great big bearded guy thinks he’s my playing partner in the next ladies fourball, he’s got another think coming!
You
wouldn’t back anyone on the LPGA Tour in a long drive contest against her Wendy. This all came about because in 2008, she won the Womans World Championship Long Drive. The governing body changed the rules to reflect the LPGA’s policy on gender. As a consequence, she is now suing the LPGA. I don’t believe for one moment that it has anything to do with becoming an LPGA teaching pro.
What happens when “John Smith’ age 22, 6’4” and with a driving average of 300 plus yards and is good enough to play Nationwide, becomes Jill Smith? He/she wouldn’t have to regain their previous level to still have a massive advantage over the real girls. Lawless has already proved that with her Long Driving World Championship. Keep in mind too, she is now 57 – I wonder what she would have done in that event at 27?
Chip, I don't know if yur
gettin through ta Wendy, but this may help….Jist tell her to look at next weeks paring sheet for the Ladies 4 ball…And guess who her partner is….Yup, someone by the name of Lawless….Damm, ya gotta love it…..an have anothr drink too….STUB
Not even Laura Davies?
That lady can stripe a ball better than a number of guys on the PGA Tour IMO.

This will open the door to so much abuse in sport, can you imagine a 300 pound transgender fender claiming the right to join pro woman’s wrestling, y’all realy don’t think things through, do yah, this is far more profound than a simple case of gender bending and PC rules….
