Back From A Minor Family Disaster

Folks, a quick note to let you know that I am alive and well once more.  Sorry that I have been neglecting my duties, but I recently had a bit of an extended family problem that required my full attention and a bit of unexpected travel to boot.

Nothing terribly tragic, and I hope you will understand why I am choosing not to go into details, but it was a deal where I had to go all out to prevent a serious problem from becoming a life-altering one for someone in the family.  Sadly, that took a little longer than I had hoped but all is going to turn out well and some lessons are going to be learned by all involved.

A lot has happened in the golf world over the past few days. and I have some catching up to do here.  I'll start that this evening and hopefully things will get back to normal here over the next couple of days.  I really appreciate those who've shown concern for me, and just wanted to let you know that I am okay, finally back home and am looking forward to getting back into routine.

Glad you're back......

It’s coming up on the 1 year anniversary of you know who and an unnamed fire hydrant. It’s gonna be all hands on deck the next few weeks…..:)

Seriously, I hope everything is ok and it all works out for you and your family.

Speaking of the Fire Hydrant

I briefly thought about all that went on then and in the aftermath, and I kind of decided to not mark the anniversary of “the end of golf as we knew it” (that’s a joke) by rehashing it endlessly. Really, I think that the story has been told and retold so often that there’s very little point to repeating it for the time being. What do you guys think?

Me, there’s a lot going on, and this is an interesting time for the game: we’ve had a changing of the guard not only at #1 in the men’s game but also generally speaking in the top 10. We see a PGA Tour in turmoil now, thanks to the recession and other factors, and we’re seeing the LPGA kind of just hanging on. The game itself is doing okay, but it too is struggling with its own nature — it takes too long to play a round of golf in the US, it’s too expensive for most families to do regularly and it still has an image problem as being a game for rich men only. In other words, there are a lot of challenges and interesting events in golf, and repeating the story of Tiger, his women and all that went with it just seem a little boring to me.

But…if you guys would like me to write about it, I suppose I can.

I agree......but it has already started.

Newsweek article coming out, Mike & Mike in the morning. I would be nice if WR was the only place that you couldn’t get your Tiger fix…..there will be ample outlets for that.

TW is now on Twitter - I wonder for how long?

& if he’ll get the record for “blocking” followers?

em may not forgive me for quoting this one from Jason Sobel on Twitter – hee, hee!

“Tiger Woods reminds me of last year’s British Open. Stewart Cink is still winning & Tiger won’t be around on the w/e”. (Twitter followers).

Tell me about munis in US

& how long it takes to play a round of golf in your less prestigious courses , & why you think more of us belong to clubs in Europe than in US (if indeed we do) , & what you made of the last 4 tournaments (didn’t Chip do a great job in Singapore?), and speculation on what happens next, and what if the top 50 golfers in the world were given PGA/Euro tour cards … and…and , and oh, why the hell not your unique take on TW for 2011. Inbetween, why not some of your original OMP blogs repeated, etc. You have SO much work to do.

you sure you wouldn't rather just go fishing...

…with that can of worms ?

Personally, it’s going to be pretty easy to ignore the media who have nothing better to do that rehash what happened a year ago. It’s not a national historical marker – it’s not even very interesting at this point.

PGA Tour in turmoil ? Is there a need to start off negative ? The Tour is in very good shape – sponsors are still there and even a couple of new ones ready to step in.

Image problem ? Again – appealing to the ignorant is a waste of time. Pick a sport and you will find pockets of people who have a negative view of that sport…well…except maybe curling. :-)

Golf is “too expensive” only if you think you have to play Augusta National with Hanma clubs in custom made clothing driven to the course in a limo. Golf isn’t for everybody – stop trying to make it that way.

Golf is too slow – yep – fun to talk about and get annoyed at – but not something we’re going to solve – even with all of our combined brilliance in problem solving. :-)

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. - C. fire hydrents and dogs

T’s episode ith his ex and the fire thinghas nothing to do with me or golf IMHO…let sleeping dogs lie and I hope his game improves because it aint as entertaining without the man in the game, so to speak.
