Big Week Coming For Euro Tour in Singapore

SINGAPORE - NOVEMBER 10: Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland in action during the Pro-Am of the Barclays Singapore Open at Sentosa Golf Club on November 10 2010 in Singapore Singapore. (Photo by Ian Walton/Getty Images)

This weekend could be pivotal for several European Tour members vying to grab that Tour's year end prize of roughly one million dollars (US) in the "Race To Dubai."

BBC: Graeme Hopes To Close In On Leader Martin Kaymer

McDowell trails his Ryder Cup team-mate by $700,000 with three tournaments remaining, but a $1m jackpot awaits this weekend's winner in Singapore.

"This week is the week which I've targeted as an important one in trying to catch Martin," said McDowell.

"A huge week this week can punch a hole in his lead," said the US Open winner.

Meanwhile, Kaymer has no intention of relinquishing his lead:

India Times: Kaymer Has Eyes Set on Winning Race to Dubai

"For me, it is a very important tournament in the Race to Dubai," he said.

"I am a good iron player and if I can drop a few putts this week, more than the last couple of weeks, I think I have a chance."

The German leads the Race to Dubai with prize money of 3.21 million euros, while McDowell has so far earned almost 2.7 million euros this season.

"This is what golf is all about, to have the challenge to play against the best players in the world and he is obviously one of the them," said the 25-year-old Kaymer.

The pair will be joined in the extended 204-man field by five other Ryder Cuppers, wunderkind Italian Matteo Manassero, and the Asian Tour money leader Noh Seung-yul.  The most botable American player will be Masters champion Phil Mickelson.  Not bad at all for a mid-Novermber tournament.

Golf: the season that never really ends.

WHAT ??

A million dollars ? Hang on here – the non-Americans on here keep saying that the Euro Tour guys aren’t in it for the money. They wouldn’t actually KEEP the million, would they ? They’d just hand it over to Green Peace or the UN or something….right ? (I need a hug !) (lol)

OMP - can we get a laugh track app for here ?

I did everything I could to make sure it was obvious that I was joking…and the needle was at the folkses here, not the players.

No Laugh Track...But You Guys Do Crack Me Up

My wife thinks I am rather strange because I often quote one you to her, starting with something like “my friend Court said…”

I imagine that if we all got together for a real round of golf it would be nothing short of hilarious.

And...

we would all slow the course down by 3hrs cause of our constant arguing and such…can you imagine Court calling penalty every 3 minutes???

OMP......That round of golf would be fun......

Stub, Handi, and I are fairly close, and I’m hoping we can get together in the spring to play a round or two in Dallas…..others would be welcome.

I get the same reaction when I quote friends from here

Mainly because he thinks we’re all strange being here in the first place. Personally I would find it difficult not to have my daily fix of WR (thanks OMP).

PS Court – Easing still probably in The Canaries – I’ll let him deal with you when he gets back fresh off his hols. ;o)

Silly Americans don’t know what they are missing in these rivalry games this week. No NFL rivalry come close to City-United, and even that doesn’t approach Liverpool-United.

Go Gunners…and I am sure you won’t have too much problem with Wolverton. They can stay tenacious for about 60 minutes and then the cream rises to the top. I say 3-1 Arsenal will be what the final is.

Nil All

Not so bad a result considering United is down 4-5 starters. They should be happy with that result but I am sure they are not at all happy with not slipping the winner into the net…they gave back two points to Chelsea after closing to within two…but for a team on the decline, United seems to be solidly in the race for the title this season.

Court was obviously having a senior moment

(see title of blog) and went to wrong continent.

Last time I looked, Robert was T84 at -1 at 16th.

lol – nope – if he’s lucky, Phil might slide ahead of Kaymer, but if TW doesn’t miss the cut, he’ll still be ahead of Mickelnuts and so will Westwood.

just my prediction

U know enough about golf, i hope and pray, to knwo that 4 shots behind the leader on the first day doesn’t mean a thing….Ambassador Phil can pull it int he nextthree days as much as anyone else who will make the cut tomorrow…(is there a cut in this SIngapor thing)

Phil’s a front runner – not a come from behind kind of guy. No doubt you’re right about day 1 – and with that field he’s up against in Singapore, he could make that up in 9 holes if he gets hot…I just don’t think he’s going to finish high enough to take over #1. He’s had 16 chances already this year and couldn’t get it done.
