PGA Tour Players Mic'd for First Time on Golf Channel Tomorrow
Over the last few months, Golf Channel has been doing some testing of mic'ing up players for PGA Tour telecasts. The tests have been conducted off-air to get a sense of the logistics, performance, and quality of the audio. Well, starting tomorrow, that will change.
Davis Love III will become the first PGA Tour player to be mic'd up for a PGA Tour telecast, which had been discussing ways to improve production value and introduce new telecast features. The McGladrey Classic will be the first tournament where this experiment is conducted.
Golf Channel has done this in the past with other tours, including the LPGA Tour. They'll continue that this week in Alabama.

fun fun
I hope that in all their logistical workups they took their microphones to windy spots by the ocean. I’m surprised they don’t just use parabolics. That’s what they use for NFL games that allow such nice sound of collisions and coaches talking from across the field.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Another sllly sales pitch ?
Why would it make watching the players better ? We can already hear Woods swear without being miked up anyway :)
I'm assuming this is optional?
Otherwise they’re going to be an awful lot of “shshsh….oot” comments;)
NO Wendy...OL Timmy
is going to make this mandatory of all PGA Tour players….That’s why your boy Lee decided not to join….and you know, all those wearing the MIC’s..are or will be perfect gentlemen….STUB
LOL ! true. Unless they have a sound box to overdub like they do in the movies. Tiger drops an f-bomb and we hear “FUDGE”.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I'm writing out a list of all the English equivalents of "Fudge", etc
I mean, the ones you can get away with. I’ve always liked the French “Merde, alors” which sounds bad translated into English (shhh …oot)., and is not very golfie, but has often summed up my missed putts. Favourite overdubs pls?
lol – good one.
If you could ever see an American TV edited version of a movie like “Casino”, you would crack up at how bad these things are.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I like it when some of the British commentators
apologise po-faced for clearly overheard profanities – especially as I can hear Wayne Riley, Ken Brown, etc, guffawing in the background.
I’m sure Easing knows the most famous quote from a cricket match which brought the radio commentary team to its collective knees for several minutes.
“The bowler’s Holding, the batsman’s Willey”. Such days of innocence!
I certainly do Wendy ...

It still kills me, lol
On Wiki - they're denying it actually happened
but I know I’ve heard it. They admit the one about “getting a leg over” and getting a “tickle”, however. Don’t care, this is one of my favourites and like you, it still kills me. Monty Pythonesque/Fawlty Towers worthy, Court, even if you don’t like cricket.
That’s hilarious !
Did you get the horse race call on the horse named Hoof Hearted ?
