Welcome Back, Kotter

Hey everyone, I hope you're doing well. I also hope you were able to spend some time over at Ryder Cup Talk at NBCSports.com. I had a blast cranking out posts and analysis about the matches from Celtic Manor. I'm very thankful to the whole staff over there who made me feel so welcome and like I actually had some writing talent.

Starting tomorrow, after a long nap tonight, I'll be back here taking you into the new year. You'll also be able to find me sometime soon at Yahoo!'s Devil Ball Golf, here and there.

I can't wait to get back into talking Fall Series, enjoying the Q-schools with you, and taking the LPGA season to its close.

I spent some time there Ryan

But not much. The bloggers there were very few and the ones that were there (with the exception of Wendy and a few others from here) didn’t have much to say. Good for you to spread your wings, but this will do me in the golf blogging world..the people here are worth a few pints from me :)

Humph!

I promised I would go over there and I did. Nothing wrong with the writing, of course,
but the WR posters have SO much more class of course!

SO glad RB had a blast away from us (tossing head in sulk).

Hang on a mo'

Had to look up the Kotter reference & it seems RB thinks we are ‘remedial students’. Mmmm – he could be right, of course

Then you never heard Arnold Horshack ? (the name means “the cattle are dying”) :-D

I gathered that, Court

but Welcome Back Kotter is meaningless to me, so you might as well introduce Mr. Horshack to STUB’s Mrs. Bale, whoever she is and we’ll get back to golf or arguing about fashion?

only if Mrs Peal is there (and I don’t mean the Uma Thurman version) :-D

Emma sends her regards

She was great, wasn’t she? Although maybe it wouldn’t be wise to make a pass at her.

BTW - The Avengers were as cult as

Monty Python over here. Did you ever get The Prisoner series? Is Billy Connolly known/to your taste?

by WendyUK on Oct 6, 2010 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

NO NO Wendy...no Mrs Peal for you...it's either

Penny or Mrs. Bale….They did a one time thing of the Prisoners…no, Connolly not known….how about Doc Martin ? they just started to show that on public TV….and masterpiece theater…all the good detective stuff…Just saw Wallander last Sunday evening, whilst sipping a nice glass of Spanish Port….ah life is good…..STUB

LOVED “The Prisoner” Patrick McGoohan was great. One of the movie channels over here ran the series last spring.

Didn’t know The Avengers were as big as Monty Python.

If I thought the posters on Ryan's NBC RC thread

were mainly rubbish – can’t wait to read him fencing with the posters on Yahoo’s Devil Ball Golf!! Jay Busbee had the temerity to report that Westwood was now No. 2 in the OWGR and could get to No. 1 (given that he still has tournaments o/s with ranking points), and with a few notable exceptions was met with a tirade of profane, ignorant, illiterate comments. I refrained from posting, particularly given the level of xenophobia expressed..

Good luck, Ryan – you’ll get a wider readership there, but it will be quantity over quality.

BTW

Didn’t realise Lee could have taken over No. 1 spot simply by NOT playing for the next couple of weeks. Not his style. Play well, Lee.

by WendyUK on Oct 6, 2010 5:24 PM EDT reply actions

Wendy, it goes on the last 24 months

As October ’10 is in progress now, October ’08 will be dropped when October ’10 is completed. Lee has easily been the best player over these 24 months, Tiger dropping to 2nd as his ’08 points continue to drop off.

by Easingwold on Oct 7, 2010 7:57 AM EDT up reply actions

Easing, it's because on Busbee's blog

he said that Lee could get to no. 1 with the tournaments he was going to play, and only then did I read a second blog which pointed out he would get to no. 1 by doing NOTHING. In other words he is willing to jeopardise the no. 1 spot to play his way to it instead. I think that’s pretty cool.

by WendyUK on Oct 7, 2010 9:19 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree.

The truth is, even the most biased American can see Lee is the best player on the planet in the last 2 years.

by Easingwold on Oct 7, 2010 10:09 AM EDT up reply actions

You must be joking!!

Read my post above re Yahoo’s Devil Ball Golf.blog. According to the comments there, apparently Lee is a piece of Brit. Sh** unworthy to even lick Tigger’s shoes. Much is made of TW’s self-inflicted time out but not Lee’s injury time out. Much is also made of TW’s 3 pts. vs. Lee’s 21/2 pts. at the RC, forgetting that this Lee’s first return to tournament play. I wouldn’t dream of denying that TW will go down in history as one of, if not the, world’s best player, but all we’re talking about here is the OWGR, dodgy as we all find the measurement system.

Maybe if Westie went out and shagged a few tarts, that ignorant idiot would think he’s on Tiger’s level ? (lol)

Ignorance is universal, Wendy. People like that aren’t worth giving a fig about. (how’s that ? good Brit slang ?) :-) Golf fans know about Westwood and know how good he is.

Thanks Court

but there were around 170 comments, the majority of which were similar.

From Mr. Common Sense – (I kid you not) “He (Westwood) cannot win on the US Tour. Just another chicken crap loser from that democrat liberal socialist rathole called Europe”. There are possibly UK websites where opposing similarly ignorant views are expressed. Dunno – don’t go there. Wouldn’t want to.

Yes, ignorance is universal. They also say ignorance is bliss – so I wish I hadn’t gone to that website in the first place.

Hitting a fig over to you Court, lob it back gently, pls. (Tennis anology).

by WendyUK on Oct 7, 2010 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess he missed that part where Westwood won in Memphis and his other close calls in majors in the US.

Here’s something I read today – heard similar things before, but this one is good.

you with experience.”

Hey Wendy (mrs. Bale) and Easy

I agree with her “dodgy” comment on the OWGR….course, ya know my view…I don’t think they are worth a hill of beans…..just something drummed up by TV and IMG to showcase their players….that said….If Lee doesn’t want to become a PGA member, that means he is under no obligation to play the mandatory 15 events over here…BUT…I assume he is a member of the Euro Tour….How many events is obliged to play on that tour ?….and than there is the Asian tour to consider…how many events on that one ?….Has anyone figgured out the actual number of weeks that can be played….majors or not….that might give us a better understanding….And no, I don’t think a true world tour will be done in Timmys time, but you can bet there will be controls in place as to who runs it…..STUB

by thinker on Oct 7, 2010 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s odd that TW has points dropping off after the Ryder Cup. He usually isn’t playing this time of year unless he makes a short trip to Asia or Australia. He did both last year, but those points won’t fall off until next year.
