LET Player Melissa Reid Bitten by Snake in China, Finishes Round
How's this for a story?
Melissa Reid, during the second round of The Sanya Ladies Open in China, was bitten by a snake "whilst playing the 16th hole." (No name was given for the snake - we'll call him Fred.) Reid was tended to by a doctor for about 20 minutes, then she chipped to six feet and made birdie. She lipped out for birdie at 17 and made par at 18 to shoot 68.
Now that's tough!
How's this for an on-the-ball caddy? Reid gets bitten and caddy Lee Griffiths says "I can see it's bitten you because it's bleeding." Thanks Lee.
Reid went on to shoot 69 in the final round to finish the tournament at -1 (T16) after opening with a 78.

In all the years that I have been stomping through
the weeds and underbrush (looking for other players balls….mine are in the FW), I have never heard of anyone being bitten by a snake….and here in the deep south, we see our share of snakes. Several years ago I was playing at the Tour 18 course in Houston, and one of the guys in our group went into the woods to look for his ball. A minute later we heard this blood curdling scream……we started toward the woods and this guy comes running out screaming. Once we got him settled down, he explained that he had stopped to “relieve” himself and looked down and a ground rattler was laid out between his feet. I still believe he wet himself and the relieving himself was just his cover story. We laughed the rest of the day! (he didn’t)
The Saints ARE the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS....WHO DAT!
LOL – great story !
I’m with you – I’ve seen a number of snakes, but never seen or met anyone who had been bitten during a round.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
When I got hit by a ball on the arm
I thought it broke…just above the wrist. I was almost sick. But 10 minutes later I knocked a wedge to 2 feet and sunk the putt. That was more impressive than a kiss off a grass snake as I was off 14 at the time :)
Do not go into the jungle looking
for golf balls whilst playing anywhere in Asia. This little guy, is a Reticulated Python. They can and do reach 20 feet in length.

They range from big to …… big. This one was about 12 feet, just a baby and needed to be relocated to somewhere other than the first tee!
No, we weren’t being cruel to it, we were trying to get it into a bag where it wasn’t going to hurt anyone, especially him/herself.
