Elin, Jack, and Butch Harmon All Offer Clues to Tiger's Return

It seems that many of the details of Tiger Woods' private matters are out in public now.  The natural progression of speculation will now shift to wondering if and when Woods will return in 2010.  Three people very crucial to his career and personal life may well hold some answers.

First up is Jack Nicklaus.  In a teleconference with reporters today to discuss his 70th birthday, the Golden Bear said he would be surprised if Woods did not play in 2010 given the sites of the first three majors.  Woods has won half of his 14 majors at Augusta National, Pebble Beach, and St. Andrew's.

Nicklaus said, "If Tiger is going to pass my record, this is a big year for him."

Next is Tiger's first professional coach, Butch Harmon.  In an interview with Sky Sports, Harmon said that he expects Tiger to return in March.  He also pointed out the major venues as a driving reason for Woods' imminent return.

And, finally, Elin may be tipping that a divorce will be forthcoming - which has led to speculation that such a move would afford Woods a chance to return to the game sooner than later.  Elin arrived at the site of Tiger's two private corporations - ETW Corp and GTW Corp - to gather documents.  The Palm Beach Post reported the news and indicated that a wife has access to such documents in the state of Florida in the event of a divorce proceeding.

Earlier in the week, Steph Wei and I took a look at both of those corporations, one of which is mostly unknown to the public.

It seems that the public sentiment is that Woods will play in 2010 and that the start could come in his home state.  Until then, the season is beginning with a very bunched leaderboard at Kapalua.

There has GOT to be a TV detective show that can come out of this. Two complete speculative answers from two guys who don’t spend time with Tiger Woods…and the ol’ “she stopped in for documents” ploy…except the “legitimate” news company doesn’t actually know what documents were gathered by Elin.

I’d suggest an episode of “Psych”, but “Sean Spencer” actually gathers facts through his observations.

court,
It seems to be a pattern with you….you don’t want anyone to speculate on anything about Tiger. Since no one, except Tiger and his handlers, know when Tiger will return, anyone else’s opinion will be definition be….wait for it….SPECULATION. It seems like you then don’t want anyone to talk about Tiger, but yet you post your opinion in every thread about Tiger.
Ryan’s article, with ot without Jack/Butch’s speculation, is informative and common sensical. Mike Wilbon on PTI today said essentially the same thing, after admitting he has no idea where Tiger is or what Tiger is planning, he came to the common sense conclusion that TW will probably return to the tour somewhere in Florida in March and definitely be ready for the Masters.
And why on earth would you even mention the fact that…“the "legitimate" news company doesn’t actually know what documents were gathered by Elin.”? Of course they don’t know; everyone on earth, led by Tiger himself, has been screaming that this is a private
matter and TW and his family deserve their privacy. The fact is, and Ryan makes mention of it although apparently you can’t read, that Elin just requesting these papers, makes it more likely that she will file for divorce, and that in turn makes it more likely that Tiger will return to the tour sooner rather than later.

by niblic on Jan 8, 2010 8:40 PM EST reply actions

Tell you what, nibs – I’ll go out to the local golf store tomorrow and ask three people about when Tiger will be playing again…and guess what…I’ll get information that is EXACTLY as legitimate as Nicklaus and Harmon and someone watching Elin walking into an office building to possibly pick up papers which may or may not be connected to a possible divorce.

How’s that ? Happy now ? (silly me – you’re never happy)

If a “news” outlet is doing a report, they are SUPPOSED to have their facts in order. They have NO clue what kind of documents Elin got from that office – they are GUESSING – which means it is not news – it is guessing. This isn’t a mathematic trend that someone with RB’s experience can disect and predict. I didn’t mention it – it’s in the article.

The POINT, nibs, is that these people are grasping at straws for no apparent reason than to keep a story going. The ONLY thing that asking Nicklaus and Harmon does is put a facade of legitimacy to more tabloid “journalism”. THEY DON’T KNOW any more than anybody else. There is no point to putting a story like this in a newspaper.

and if you want to get into “patterns” – have you noticed that you accuse everybody of not being able to read when they disagree with you ? juvenile insults don’t generally help to support a person’s argument.

,,,thank you, court….you make my point much better than I ever could. As to your POINT, Jack/Butch are answering a question and the reporter is posting a story that lots of people including yourself are interested in….so there is indeed a POINT to putting a story like this into a newspaper or blog.

And I’m not accusing you of illiteracy for not agreeing with me but rather I point out when you apparently can’t read. I even quoted your offending sentence, here it is again from your first post…“except the "legitimate" news company doesn’t actually know what documents were gathered by Elin.” And my accusation apparently assisted you because you corrected yourself in this latest post by saying instead…“someone watching Elin walking into an office building to possibly pick up papers which may or may not be connected to a possible divorce.” So now you understand, (thanks to me), that the identity of the papers do not matter, but you stubbornly and foolishly persist in your error that Elin picking up these papers does not portend divorce. This is NOT speculation; it is a fact that you are a spectacular fool; someone needs to point that out to you; I am happy to provide that service!

by niblic on Jan 9, 2010 9:31 AM EST up reply actions

So tell us, Nibs – just how do you KNOW that the papers picked up by Elin “portend divorce” ? For all you know, she was digging up her kids’ birth certificates or gift receipts from Christmas shopping. I’m not saying that you’re wrong, not saying you’re right. What I’m saying is that this is a GOSSIP story – not a NEWS story.

Because a reporter asks a question does not make it legitimate news – especially when the people they are talking to have said that they have had no direct contact with the subject. How can this be so difficult for you to understand ?

Court,
How do I know that the papers picked up by Elin portend divorce? Simple….because I can read! From the article…." Elin arrived at the site of Tiger’s two private corporations – ETW Corp and GTW Corp – to gather documents. The Palm Beach Post reported the news and indicated that a wife has access to such documents in the state of Florida in the event of a divorce proceeding."
…As for your other question, I already answered it in my last post…have someone read it for you!

Court,

peoples opinons differ as we all know, but you are right, Niblic’s condensending insults suggest 2 things…1,he feels the need to insult someone to support his opinon ( a valid one wouldn’t need any help) and 2, he can’t be a very nice person to have a beer with…after a few drinks he is bound to disagree with you…the isults would just increase when the beer took hold.

by Easingwold on Jan 9, 2010 12:06 PM EST up reply actions

Easingwold,
Your suggestions/inferences are incorrect….1) I don’t feel the need to insult court, I just like to….he’s such a pompous ass and the dangerous thing is that he thinks he’s intelligent. And 2) I actually can be a nice person to have a beer with, but I certainly don’t need even one beer to disagree with you…all I need is some departure from the truth. I seek the TRUTH, not civility…you would be wise to ponder this as you, by your own account, are NOT seeking the TRUTH.
By the way, I documented in my posts to court, where he departed from the truth, so therefore, the alleged insults to him about not being able to read, were not “condescending insults”, but rather a gracious assist on my part to get him back to the truth. Evidently you too have reading issues!

Tiger's return.

C’mon guys,….study TW’s patterns, and what we now know about his lack of moral compass, and figure it out. What matters most to Tiger, has always been Tiger !!! He’s not even paying lip service to saving his marriage, or his reputatioin or anything else. He’s hiding out until the surgery will not be noticable, then he’ll start workin on his game and will look normal for the inevitable paparazi photos. He’ll pay his legal team to save him as much $$$ with the divorce as they can, and he’ll have at least 2 events before Augusta. He’s a very simple study. I doubt he’ll even contest custody of his kids because they do not get him to where he wants to be. He’s a one dimensional fella, who was living a lie, and now his attitude will be,… so what !!!…., this is who I am. This will finally show the world that he really is a typical professional athlete, albeit the first to be exposed in pro golf. Pretty transparent. It’s all about Tiger and I doubt he will be very media friendly anymore. Why,….because he doesn’t need to be as he’s not covering up anymore. What we see, is what we’ll get. Some won’t notice, but a great majority of fans will never climb back on his wagon. Again,…in TW’s mind,….it doesnt matter a lick. The term"ice man" will be appropriate, and at least it’ll be honest……………….Z.

but that has been mostly debunked by the report that TW did secretly meet with the FHP 4 days after the accident, so it is at this point well beyond highly speculative into the mostly crap category…lol

Surgery ???

Debunked huh ? Then how is it Tiger was spotted at Scottsdale Municipal Airport only hours after the “hydrant” scandal ? An impersonator no doubt LMAO All the " high rollers" in golf use the SMA due it’s 3 mile proximity to the TPC OF Scottsdale. FYI,….it’s 5 miles to the Mayo Clinic as well. What surgery did he have….???, who knows ! But I’ll tell you this, there are as many cosmetic surgeons in Scottsdale as divorce lawyers. Cosmetic surgery here is a huge business. Just check out the women in the malls here,….stunning ! Nobody ‘s explained that FAT LIP yet have they ? Perhaps that’s due his “scalpel time”. Supposedly he got his teeth fixed too.Soooo, absolutely nothing has been debunked !!! (snopes.com) I was dead on about this guy being a phony, but even I never expected this. Time you pulled your head outa yor arse and admit the truth. You’re backing the biggest sports fraud of all time. At least we all knew Bonds was an a$$h0!e.

by 3IRONS on Jan 9, 2010 1:05 PM EST up reply actions

Where is this story about TW being in Scottsdale “hours” after assaulting the hydrant ? If he was in an airport, why isn’t there a flight log report or video since every airport is required to have video cameras ? Why go to Scottsdale when there are huge numbers of excellent plastic surgeons just a few minutes south by jet in Miami ? I haven’t heard any other explanation for his injuries than the crash…not that there aren’t other possibilities…but you can get pretty banged up at 30 mph.

t-head is a fan, no doubt, but what’s the point of buying into the wild speculation ? There is no proof to any of these crazy stories. If something crazy happened in your life, wouldn’t you want the benefit of the doubt ?

EM66 & Court

Can’t tell ya who killed JFK, but we all know who killed Tiger Woods. He did himself in. FYI,…SMA is a private field frequented by high rollers. Tiger does have access to a jet does he not ? I heard this tale (Woods spotted at SMA) from the director of SMA. He plays here at WR. Does that make it true,….of course not. But it certainly fits in with what’s been reported. We’ll see soon enough, as you know the paparazi will be doing before/after photo analysis of Tiger’s grille. lol……………………z

Sorry about the “arse” thing. Was outa line there. As for “facts” about all this,….somehow I doubt we’ll ever know what really took place. However, given the time frame between when he was “supposedly spotted” at SMA, and when he “secretly” met with FHP, it is most assuredly one plausible theory, amongst many. I doubt his name would appear on any flight documents in any case. His people would take care of that I’m sure. I’m wondering how difficult it would be to access that kind of information anyway. I’ll ask my flight director buddy at SMA. Couldn’t be that simple???,…could it ? Naaaaw…………………………Z.

Groveling Fools

I was going to start a new blog about this but changed my mind as I’m to PO’d about it to concentrate ? Yesterdays tournament was action packed for the “true golf fans”, but the Golf Channel once again failed with their reporting. At aout 7:45 pm est., the panel was discussing the future of the PGA without tiger and it was said by Tilghman and Lerner that the players should start showing more emotion and personality on the course allowing the fans to get to know them a little more. Lerner also stated that if the players didn’t do it then it was up to the reporters like him to tell people what they know about each player. He must be kidding right ? TGC has had the last 10 years or more to subscribe to this way of FAIR and Balanced reporting, but instead did little of the sort. Rather they only focused on Tiger and left the others on tour out to dry 60% of the time. I wrote to TGC many times and suggested they do a weekly focus on one select tour player each week, so that perhaps they could introduce players to new fans of the game of golf. Did they do it Nope. But now suddenly they want to switch gears. They waisted 10 + years not promoting the TOUR as a whole and focused on the Golden Goose and now it MIGHT cost em. TGC says this is their new focus, but I will bet Dimes to Donuts they forget all about their new attitude when and if Tiger returns. TGC owned and operated by comcast cares little to nothing about what we the fans think and only their bottom line. Sure they have to make money to survive, but I think the Golf Fans deserve a lot better than we have gotten to date from them.

And Ryan , the Golf Channel blog can’t hold a candle to this one as if the reader does not like what they see in the articles posted herein then they can write their own for all to see and comment on. The way it should be…jumpn/progolf

Did you see the funny part of that interview ? He said that 95% of the guys don’t do well letting their personalities out on the course – and he’s one of that 95% – BUT – he also “encouraged” other players to let THEIR personalities show.

Cink

says he gets his personality across on Twitter where he has more than 1 million followers (including me) rather than on the course. He posts replies, photos, jokes, etc. He has suggested that golfers use whatever means they are comfortable with to interact more with fans, etc (but I don’t think he meant Tigger’s way).

Well said Jumpn

I totally agree….and now to suggest that the players manufacture personas, so the talking heads can have some drama, is absolutely pitiful. You are point on here. There is tons of actual Golf info they could report on, and share, but they are looking for Made for TV mess. Great post.

I’ve been doing meditation and other psyche training to block out Tilghman and Lerner as much as possible…then some clown gave Nobilo a sheet of elevation changes and the adjustments to yardage.

Pro – can’t say that I blame you for being pissed. the “leader” in golf broadcasting is expecting us to bend over for yet another year.

I play the draw from the left side of the tee box, and you hit that fade from the right, but we share a love for the game i’m sure. Though the world is closer to collapse after this latest revelation. P.S. I admire your zest for debate.

Well said bro about TGC. I’m wondering if viewership is down for them. I know I only watch the events on TeVo so I can skip the ads and that boring duo of Tilghman and Lerner. I bet the ratings are down cuz TW is gone, but it could be comparable to when he was out with the ACL. If ratings are lower now, then the true golf fan base is being eroded, and that would have nothing to do with Tiger. THAT, would be a slap in the face on their poor content. No wonder their looking to change it up,…if ratings are that bad. Not my field, but I’m sure somebody on here might have access to that info………Z.

I get with EM on this fantasy stuff, will all who think the GC sucks please hold your drink with your right hand, and raise your left…. see, I counted about 1 zillion, more or less, so that makes it official…THE GOLF CHANNEL SUCKS…Just one other thing I wanted to ask, and maybe 3irns knows this…Did Elin leave that office carrying boxes of stuff, or did she have an overstuffed brief case…If it was a briefcase, that’s probably for the Atty…If it’s boxes, the FBI and IRS are involved…and answer me this…Why does Nobilo always have a disclaimer injected into his analysis such as “however”…he must have gone to the politically correct school with Breed…God I love that guy, but will someone please shove a sock in his mouth?? 3irns, Ping, Court, anybody??…STUB

don’t suppose you’d believe Elin was just picking up some extra diapers ? didn’t think so

I like Nobs – but you’re right, he needs to stop thinking he is supposed to be Mr Wizard and just let that easy going personality and love of the game do what it does best – talk GOLF. If he second and third guessed himself on the golf course the way he does on a broadcast, he wouldn’t have made it out of junior golf.

3IRONS,
Yes you do have a clue, that is assuming you can read…" Elin arrived at the site of Tiger’s two private corporations – ETW Corp and GTW Corp – to gather documents. The Palm Beach Post reported the news and indicated that a wife has access to such documents in the state of Florida in the event of a divorce proceeding."
…now granted, you don’t know specificly what those documents are, but I will personally guarantee you that it was not the children’s birth certificates or Christmas gift receipts. As the title of this article implies, this offers a “clue” to what is going on between Tiger and Elin regarding their possible divorce. No court, it is not a fact, but a clue. B the way, court, you should seriously consider getting one yourself before posting your nonsense!

LOL stub

Michael Breed, The teaching pro hitting golf balls into a screen…yeah great choice Golf Channel. As for “Rich ( hair peice ) Lerner” goes, he had no prior sports or Golf reporting credentials prior to joining TGC. He was a Sales and Marketing Manager for Comcast. Imagine that. Frank Nobilo ahhhh a checkered short run on tour at best for him. Chamblee at least had a fair run on tour and is somewhat balanced with his reporting. Charlie Rymer ? another questionable run on tour for him as well, but at least he’s jolly and somewhat educated with the inner workings of golf, but still a total TW cheerleader. Day 3 of the SBS starts in one hour, wooooo hooooo. I’m headed to the club to play some texas holdem to practice for next weeks Vegas trip and we will have the SBS on minus the volume….jumpn/progolf

Did you see the first show with Breed ? They tried to do it outdoors and live…but someone forgot to tell the producers that the sun goes down in the evening, so they were hitting shots that could be seen just about as far as they can be seen into the net. Breed knew it and was cracking up.

Nobilo had a better career as a pro than Chamblee – and Chamblee has turned into Chris Collinsworth. He’s terrific as a third banana who is there to give quick opinions, but the power of the analyst chair has gone to his head.

Rymer, a good Georgia Tech guy, is a GREAT guy…but a nightmare in studio. He’s all over the place. I’m with you and enjoy his “jolly” personality (good word), but he tends to wander.

The problem with xxx Golf Channel is that they got lucky with a few hires and their production staff now thinks that THEY can take anybody, put a mic in their hands and turn them into a great golf broadcaster. The hire of Steve Sands, also not a golf guy – but a naturally good talker and interviewer, is the guy who gave the producers their big heads. Vince Cellinni is another natural as a host and interviewer who knows he doesn’t know golf, but enjoys the game, isn’t intimidated by guys like Faldo, and knows the kind of questions that would make a broadcast work. Most of the rest are former pros who think they are supposed to berate the players, or teaching pros who have no clue what’s going on in a tournament.

Start with a new front office and get rid of the dead weight.

Also,

I think TGC needs to have the coverage broken down more like the networks do. ie. One analyst (perspective) on the 12th and 13th hole, another on the 14th and 15th, and so on. Then have that lightning rod (you like him or you don’t) as the lead analyst. I don’t like Johnny Miller (self-centered wind bag), but he stirs the pot, and he’s polarizing. Golf needs a boost in the coverage sometimes, with the paint drying, and water boiling. TGC has too many studio voices, and not enough on course.

"The game is swell when it's played well."

by Fairways and Grins on Jan 9, 2010 5:57 PM EST up reply actions

I just don’t see that it’s necessary to piss people off just to “stir the pot” as you say. And Miller is the wrong guy to be doing that – the guy stirring the pot should be the host moderating the debate. Unfortunately for xxx Golf Channel, that falls in the lap of Kelly Tilghman, who still thinks she’s supposed to one up Faldo and make cutesy little word plays, or Rich “the human yawn” Lerner.

Nibs,

there ya go again with your “reading problem” I think you really need to get those cataracts taken care of, cause it’s causing you reading problems. 3irns was commenting on the “papers” that were gathered…No place in the article was the AMOUNT of papers mentioned…and no, there were no “clues” as the article mention of the SPECULATED divorce was an aside to the main article…namely she was there to get papers….see, it’s easy when you can read and comprehend at the same time…STUB

by thinker on Jan 11, 2010 3:16 PM EST reply actions

STUB,
Please change your moniker to one that fits…idiot/moron come immediately to mind.
Yes, 3IRONS was commenting on the “papers” that were gathered, he said specificly…“I have no clue about what Elin could have been picking up”, and I replied to him, again specificly… “Yes you do have a clue, that is assuming you can read…” Elin arrived at the site of Tiger’s two private corporations – ETW Corp and GTW Corp – to gather documents. The Palm Beach Post reported the news and indicated that a wife has access to such documents in the state of Florida in the event of a divorce proceeding."
…Now that is indeed a clue, and the fact that you even bring up the “AMOUNT of papers” gives us a glimpse into your irrational/illogical mind.

by niblic on Jan 12, 2010 11:03 AM EST up reply actions

nibs – you are perfecting the art of being wrong based on a correct starting point – nobody is arguing that Elin went to the offices – nobody is arguing that she has the right to gather papers. What IS being argued is that we don’t know WHAT papers she took and we don’t know WHY she took the papers. To conclude that the only reason she would be there doing what she did is for a divorce is speculation at its finest. COULD they be right ? Of course they could. But ARE they right ? We don’t know…and neither do they. News people want to push any story to it’s most fantastic end for the purpose of ratings. Truth and accuracy don’t mean anything when there are ratings points to be had.

by courtgolf on Jan 12, 2010 11:35 AM EST up reply actions

“What IS being argued is that we don’t know WHAT papers she took and we don’t know WHY she took the papers”

Finally we agree, as far as you went there….but the title of this article is “Elin, Jack, and Butch all offer clues to Tiger’s return” and Ryan states in the article…" Elin arrived at the site of Tiger’s two private corporations – ETW Corp and GTW Corp – to gather documents. The Palm Beach Post reported the news and indicated that a wife has access to such documents in the state of Florida in the event of a divorce proceeding."

…now even though we agree that we don’t know what papers she took or why she took them, this most certainly does offer a clue that she is at least contemplating a divorce. Of course this is speculation….since Tiger and Elin haven’t said anything factual, that’s all we possibly can have at this point. What is so wrong about that? NOTHING. You think it’s wrong to speculate but yet you have made about 20 posts in this thread alone…hypocrite, thy name is courtgolf!

And finally, if Tiger/Elin wanted to stop all this speculation all they have to do is come clean with the media and tell the facts; now mind you, they are under no obligation to do so, but unless and until they do so, the media and golf fans are going to speculate.

by niblic on Jan 12, 2010 1:37 PM EST up reply actions

funny – I’ve said that same thing over and over and over – how come you agree now ? oh well – better late than never.

Good segue back to the headline – none of those three gave a single CLUE as to when Tiger will return.

And if you’ll read…or have someone read them for you…JUST kidding, passing the illiteracy baton back to you…my posts have been about NOT speculating. I didn’t speculate – I said it’s dumb to speculate on things for which you have no evidence.

"this ball will fit in that fairway"

by courtgolf on Jan 12, 2010 2:22 PM EST up reply actions

Funny? But untrue….I have documented how your posts have changed, here’s one examp[le from Jan 9th…

“And I’m not accusing you of illiteracy for not agreeing with me but rather I point out when you apparently can’t read. I even quoted your offending sentence, here it is again from your first post…"except the “legitimate” news company doesn’t actually know what documents were gathered by Elin." And my accusation apparently assisted you because you corrected yourself in this latest post by saying instead…"someone watching Elin walking into an office building to possibly pick up papers which may or may not be connected to a possible divorce." So now you understand, (thanks to me), that the identity of the papers do not matter, but you stubbornly and foolishly persist in your error that Elin picking up these papers does not portend divorce. This is NOT speculation; it is a fact that you are a spectacular fool; someone needs to point that out to you; I am happy to provide that service!"

…that’s what i love about this site, no deletions, everything in black and white. You can’t post your lies/revisionist history(you must be an Obamanite?) without me having access to the evidence to refute you! Let me refute your 2nd paragraph…all 3 of those, just like Ryan’s headline proclaimed, offerred clues as to when TW will return.
And I know full well that you said it’s dumb to speculate(see, I can read!), which is why I said in my first post…
“It seems to be a pattern with you….you don’t want anyone to speculate on anything about Tiger. Since no one, except Tiger and his handlers, know when Tiger will return, anyone else’s opinion will be definition be….wait for it….SPECULATION. It seems like you then don’t want anyone to talk about Tiger, but yet you post your opinion in every thread about Tiger.”
Anything else, court? It seems everything you post in this thread needs correction, but I’m up to the task.

I make no apology for being right. Instead of making vague and irrelevant allusions to WWII, of which I never claimed to have any opinion, perhaps you could identify something, anything that I have posted here that is incorrect. I would love to refute you but you make sweeping accusations without any example of where/how I erred. Sort of like your faith, ie. atheism, you have no proof there either but you nevertheless profess an irrational blind faith anyway, at your peril, also I must add(see Pascal’s wager).

by niblic on Jan 12, 2010 11:09 AM EST up reply actions

Nibs, the WW2 reference..

was to show you how 2 sides could see the same thing differently. An example. Got that ? Good. Now I have no proof there is or is not a God, I just don’t think there is. Clear enough for you ? 1 example how you erred. You never think you do. I think that about covers it.

by Easingwold on Jan 12, 2010 12:44 PM EST reply actions

I’ve challenged you to point out anything that I’ve posted that is wrong and you waste 2 posts saying nothing….if you have no examples just admit you’re wrong, and I’ll forgive you(hmmmsounds familiar).
