WSJ Disproves UC Davis "Tiger Effect" Study...A Week After Waggle Room Did
The Wall St. Journal's Numbers Guy, Carl Bialik, wrote a piece today talking about how the Knittel-Stango UC Davis study saying that this whole Tiger incident cost his sponsors between $5 billion and $14 billion was bogus.
Great! Nay a mention of my work to debunk the study, or the blog postings on several economics blogs questioning the methodology of the study.
But, Bialik got a priceless quote from Professor Stango:
"[A]s we submit this to the academic peer-review process, we'll have to address those concerns." He adds, "This helped us get constructive comments that will help us improve our analysis."
In other words: "We put out a hunk of crap of a study and now are backpedaling by saying that this was all designed to spur debate."
Paraphrasing one of Waggle Room's great commenters, "Tell the story how you want, then check facts later."
