Get Your Tee Times Now for Michael Jackson Memorial Golf Course

The Taj Majal was constructed as a mausoleum for an emperor's fallen wife.  Dollywood was erected (pun intended) by Dolly Parton to rake in a ton of cash while she is still living.  What would be a perfect hybrid of the two?

Did you say "a 100 acre, $1 billion amusement park and resort created in Michael Jackson's honor?"

Then you, sir or madam, are correct.

The Los Angeles Times reports today on the beginnings of such a project that would start this year and take almost a decade to complete.  It would be in Gary, Indiana (Gary, Indiana, Gary, Indiana), largely paid for by private donors, and honor Jackson's career and family roots.  The LA Times piece says that a golf course will likely be developed in the second phase of the construction.

Perhaps some names for the course would include:

  • The Mirror, since it would reflect your golf skills
  • Bad, if it's designed like ::insert your least favorite course architect here::
  • Thriller, just cause that would make sense
  • Or your favorite child molestation innuendo (though Jackson was never been convicted of such crimes, we all know where the comments on this story are headed)

is there ANY common sense left in the Jackson family ?

An amusement park dedicated to Michael Jackson – a NEVER ending string of child molestation jokes there. How many parents will be protesting this idea ?

And a golf course ? Sure – it makes sense to have a golf course at a resort…then again…the parents were away when the kids were with Jackson….

I can’t think of a single reason why I would go to that place. Then again, I have passed Graceland a bunch of times and never stopped in, and even though my two-doors-down neighbor once played for the Broncos and the Ravens, I don’t stare adoringly at his place. So maybe I fail the Celebrity Obsession test.

The MJ fans who remained strong through the controversy, the facial reconstruction, molestation charges, and what have you are a hearty stock. They will go to the end of the earth for MJ stuff, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that brought in a lot of visitors for them.

I’d much rather go to Dollywood though.

Driving through Gary on the interstate...

…on the way to Chicago, I looked out over the landscape and determined that Gary might actually be the most depressing place under the sun.

From what I saw...

…the only thing that could make Gary worse would be if it were dotted with landmines.

But then, I kind of feel the same way about the whole of Indiana. (Apologies to Larry Bird and John Mellencamp.)

Driving Tjhrough Gary? How About Stopping There?

Early in my career, Sprint was laying out its long-distance fiber optic cable backbone. This was 1985 and 1986, not long after the Consent Decree opened up the long distance market to competition. (Odd that no one pays for long distance calls anymore…) Anyway, we started in Sprint’s center in downtown Chicago, working out way from there to South Bend, Indiana testing the cables before they were put into service. One waypoint was the train yard in Gary.

Now imagine this: a skinny white kid, all of 24, hanging out by himself in that rail yard in a little bitty telephone shack. There were no cell phones then, no Internet to speak of, and besides a little transistor radio, no other way to connect with the outside world. At night. With gunshots ringing every few minutes on the other side of the tracks.

It’s a nice way to spend the evening on your second business trip ever, and I did it.

Local Rules for Michael Jackson GC.
  1. Please refrain from spinning and grabbing your crotch after sinking a putt on the practice green.
  2. One glove must be worn at all times.
  3. No yelling, “Fore” on the course. If a players ball is hit by an outside agency, the player must exclaim, “You’ve been hit by! You’ve been struck by! A smooooth criminal!”
  4. All references to “rub of the green” in the USGA rulebook are hereby replaced with “play time with Bubbles.”
  5. 90º Rule in effect at all times for carts, although players may inexplicably jump on top of their cart and bash it with a crow bar while yelling, “hooooo!” at any time.
  6. One nose per round.

A Resort in Michael Jackson's Honor....

First of all parts of Gary, IN are not garden spots, nor is the area in New Jersey adjacent to I-95. It’s really difficult to make steel in an environmentally clean yet economic way. The petro-chemical business is a dirty one but it employs tens of thousands of people if not more. After all the comedians have taken their shots with Michael Jackson, the creation of something like this would be an enormous windfall benefit to the area. A golf course was built on a waste disposal area in Northern Indiana. Talk about reclaiming the land! This facility could employ many, many people who voted for President Obama, which I gather is code for African American. There would be John Deere mowers made in Moline to buy. Ask the people in Pigeon Forge, TN if they care what Dolly Parton’s bra size is…. Elvis died on the toilet, a bloated, drug addict. Graceland still does a land office business to the benefit of many businesses in Memphis. I hope this isn’t interpreted as a defense of Michael Jackson or Elvis. It’s just business folks! Orlando was a dismal swamp before Walt Disney came to town. Hey Ryan, which hand did Michael wear that crystal glove? A pro shop could sell a bunch of lefts….

Ping.....There you go again. No code words.......

not all low/no income, uneducated people are black(I guess that’s what you think). In my area (as in most areas) crime is committed by these people, whether white, black or Hispanic, here it is a proven fact that they overwhelmingly voted for Obammmmmmma. The common thread for most of them is that they depend on the government for their existence…….so crawl off your high horse and give it a rest.

Actually, most of Wall Street supported Obama. They

knew big giveaways were coming. And I’m not sure if you consider Congressmen white collar, but Barneys Frank and Chris Dodd would head the list. Frank encouraged people to invest in Fanny Mae…..“a great investment” about 4 months before it collapsed. Fine fellow. He and Dodd should be in the cell next to Madoff, but we know that the new “change” is not change at all, unless you consider Chicago thugs as being change.

D – let’s assume for a minute that your argument holds any kind of water. Those white collar criminals accounted for a few billion dollars. Inside of a month, Barry O added almost a TRILLION dollars to the country’s debt with intentions of adding between 4 and 7 TRILLION more over the next few years, plus whatever bill he would tack on for “health care”.

Pretty sure the criminals you imagine “destroyed” the economy are looking like that corner store robber compared to the Chairman.

Odd, as a child growing up in Cocoa Beach (my family were KSC/CCAFS workers) I remember O-Town well before Disney. While it certainly wasn’t the tourist destination it is today, it was a pretty big town and the largest central Florida burg east of Tampa-St. Pete.

And for the record, when Disney was built it was over 20 miles SW of Orlando anyway.

Feminism, just like any other umbrella label, has good and not so good philosophies. Like you said above…some Republicans didn’t vote for the Republican candidate because he didn’t meet their expectations… I think that goes to prove that labels don’t always represent the feelings and positions of such a large group that might fall under it.

Just because I’m a female and appreciate the opportunities I have now due to the “movement”, doesn’t mean I agree with all things Feminist.

There will always be extremists – and it’s unfortunate that the small minority always seem to get all of the attention.
