The San Diego Open May Have A Title Sponsor
A few weeks ago, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem talked about a few tournaments on the 2010 schedule that would be operating without title sponsors. One of those was the former Buick Invitational, run by the Century Club of San Diego. The event is currently known as the San Diego Open and is just three weeks away from its start.
Seems like the notion of getting a title sponsor is laughable at this point. But Tod Leonard tells us to hold up everything because the Century Club may still find someone.
"We’re still working on it, and I still believe there will be a sponsor," [Century Club President Tom] Wornham said to Leonard. "Obviously, this is not where I wanted to be. Nor is it where I expected to be. But we’re going to make the best of it. We have the financial backing to pull off the tournament in 2010."
Obviously with little chance to promote the tournament with the new title sponsor, the fee for what is essentially a three week deal would come at an enormous discount.
I would guess they could get in for as little as $2-3 million.

"this ball will fit in that fairway"
All of that cash money going from Waggle Room to RB's pocket has to be put to good use.
Everyone knows bloggers do it for the benjamins. Right?
You guys should know that I am just raking in the cash on this site.

This reminds me of the Poinsettia Bowl.
I believe it was three weeks before the 2008 bowl game when the San Diego County Credit Union stepped up to sponsor the event.
And so it begins.......
Life without Tiger…….Lack of sponsorship……..Lack of TV advertising $$. Golf with no leading man……You say Phil, but will he make the cut is always a problem. Well i have the answer. A fine Gentleman who just “grips it and rips it” I give you Mr. John Daly…..Good luck with that. You “true golf fans” will now get what you asked for….

Most of the Tour’s schedule is locked in until 2014 – as well as TV. Tiger’s done his job – and he doesn’t start his season until March anyway…how about in Phoenix instead of Tucson this year just to stick it to Accenture ? :-)

Yeah, 10 tournaments are up for deals this year and two have options that may not be exercised for beyond this year.

Exactly........
You’re getting it now. Boys he’s going to Europe, and you’ll get your wish. Never mind the “Local hardware store” open name…. it’ll grow on you. Good will come of it. Let’s be honest we don’t like all this sponsorship anyway. Who needs it. It’s not the Tostitoes Fiesta Bowl, it’s just the Fiesta Bowl. Who needs more money?? We play for the love of the game. Right? We “true golf fans” Wax poetic about the days of yore. You know the “Greater Greensboro Open”, and the “Milwaukee Open” , Who needs big bucks anyway. These are professional golfers, and everyone knows they play for sport first and the money is just a bonus. Who ever said Professional meant play for pay? Ask old 3 irons he’ll tell you exactly what professionalism is, and hint, it aint a paycheck. So if Tiger leaves, or just doesn’t comeback, he won’t be missed, Right? …….Hunh? OBTW…Although most of the schedule is locked ’til 2014….Things are always subject to change…..reference…….Caroline Bivens.

I won't miss him. If he goes to Europe....
maybe you could go with him. Actually without Tiger golf would get better. Those “other” guys out there would probably step it and the competition should get better……but we both know Tiger is not going anywhere,(but to court) so all this is just more of your gobbletygoop…..
BTW…..will he ever man-up and come out of hiding????
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
"Other" guys as in....
The guys who’ve been laying down all during this generation? Or do you really mean that he’s been so GREAT that GOOD hasn’t been able to shine? Do tell? Hurry though. My ship is sailing for Europe. I need a new “venue.” Hey Wendy UK. any Sisters????

Hey F&G,
see if she has 2 sisters..we could go meet them, than go and stay with Easing for a couple of months….I keep tellin ya guys…bring back Monday Qualifying if you want REAL competition…that’s either play, or go on down the road…I do guess it would thin the ranks out a bit too…STUB
I'm Sold.
That does it Easing……….I agree Stub Monday qualifying would be great, and the Tour could sell it to it’s sponsors, and TGC. I think the tour should have the Top 60 exempt, 15 qualify from the Nationwide Tour, and the rest be Monday Qualifiers, or be included based on current year results. This would produce Professional Golfers, who would have to play well, or become spectators. What we have now is some golfers playing for the wrong reasons, and frankly not working very hard at their craft. I don’t like watching it, and i don’t appreciate the lack of effort. I don’t like some guy taking 3rd, going on a month’s vacation with no clubs, then coming back missing 5 cuts, take 4th and repeat the process, then begin preparing for the playoffs (the fall series)….I mean it’s how they qualify, but i don’t like it. Just sayin’

F&G/STUB/Easing
Well, we DO have a few swanky yacht clubs around here – although perhaps not up to TW’s standard. Thought I’d help Easing out with an intinerary as you’ll be with him so long. There are a couple of casinos down at Gunwharf Quays,. Joanna’s (Easings old stamping ground), has long gone, but my oh my, there’s also a nightclub called TIGER TIGER LTD, at Gunwharf Quays. Truth!!!!
No sisters for you reprobates though!
Wendy.....
You are a beacon in a blog adrift……Hopefully the golf season will restore some order here, and Golf can become the topic again. Fellas Stay well until we can play well. Ahhhhhhh,,,,golf tomorrow. On TV of course…
