Lee Westwood Wearing Race to Dubai Champion Patch on Shirt
In watching the Qatar Masters on Golf Channel this morning, I saw Lee Westwood teeing off at the home hole. After he hit his drive, the cameras focused in on Westwood's follow through. I noticed that he was was wearing a bizarre patch.
Going in for further inspection, you'll see that Lee Westwood is wearing a patch that indicates he is the Race to Dubai champion from 2009.
Can you imagine something so ridiculous on the PGA Tour? Can't you see that Tiger (when he comes back) would just laugh at Tim Finchem meekly asking him to wear yet another patch on his Nike Golf shirt to indicate that he has won a second FedExCup?
This isn't the Girl Scouts, or Boy Scouts. You don't get merit badges in golf. Even further than that, Westwood won the Order of Merit in 2000. Where's his badge for that?
And would he wear it in the United States?

Perhaps
he’s proud of being the best player in Europe last year. I know I would be.
Play it as it lies
I imagine he wears it with pride
rather than at anyone’s request. Sort of intimidation factor to other European players (as per his caddie’s recent advice to him?). Bit like TW’s red shirt perhaps. Just overtaken by Chips comment. Ditto.
If anyone can pull off
that overtaken look, it’s you, Wendy.
Wendy......bust him up.....he's cheering
for the Colts against the Saints…….Who dat would cheer against the Saints?…..lol
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Em, I've been rooting for your Saints
up till now and waiting for Reggie Bush to consistently shine, but Reggie Van Gleason has a better chance againt the Colts’ D.
Enjoy the game, Em, the first quarter anyway, and don’t bet the ranch.
TXQ......I don't need any more ranches.....
as I bet the ranch against the future HOF QB Warner, and ended up with two ranches, then I bet the two ranches against another future HOF QB Favre, and ended up with four ranches…..now we go up against future HOF QB Manning…..see any trends here? Anybody want to buy a ranch…..cheap!
WHO DAT!The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Kudos, em, I'm glad for ya,
really. But don’t get overconfident and let it all ride next Sunday. Take some bucks off the table.
Beside, in general, most bettors will agree that the dismay of losing lasts longer than the joy of winning. I only bet small, and only with friends that I don’t mind giving my money to.
It still adds body english to the living room, behind my sofa, from where I’ll try to watch the game.
T......I don't bet on the games, but
you gotta admit, facing 3 future HOFamers in a row is tough for anyone. Their defense is a bend, don’t break defense…..and if they hit Peyton a few times, then anything can happen. WHO DAT!
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Agreed, and if Peyton has
to actually leave the game early, it’s all yours.
I actually/obviously like Wendy.
I just kid the folks I like. Wouldn’t be surprised if Londoners call their town the Wendy City.
Well, I’d be somewhat surprised … overtaken even.
I'd tell you how they pronounce " Wendy"
in France, (Chicago) but it would give you waaayyyy too many jokes. Don’t think that I don’t remember you saying I had a “horrible laugh” on RealWomenGolf some 25 yrs. ago. You think I hold grudges? You betcha!
That was just my initial test to see if you
had a sense of humor.
And I’m sure you’d agree that Heather’s one of the nicest bloggers you’ll ever e-meet. And she’s quite clever.
Heather is great
but I “totally” hate her (you never did get that reference, did you?) for getting her old handicap (same as mine STILL is) down to 10.0
Whats wronf with that
What is he suppose to do , put it in a shadow box ? Patches were designed to be put on clothing to be worn. Like chinputt said, he’s proud of the win.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
Wendy,
are you gonna take that cowerdly attack from TX just lying down?…go get um girl…Hey Jumpin, EM and I can hear it now, Kaching, Kaching Kaching goes the bet…and for Ping, GO BIG WIEZE…STUB
He's hiding behind the sofa
but I’ll bide my time and sneak up on him, no worries. Also I have hitmen on your side of the pond.
The Colts are going down with Pompey.
Bravo...Wendy....
Your hit man isn’t name Guido is it? Just wondering, cause Guido is good…..I’ve used him a time or two…..mostly for those who are cheering against my Saints…..WHO DAT!
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Segue, or as it's often spelled in the
blogosphere, segway: Anyone yet to see HBO’s “Rome” series from a few years ago, buy or rent the DVD. It’s fabulous.
TXQ.....See.....
one mention of Guido, and you change the subject……..
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Figured I'd better change the subject
since I was the object.
I have
A have wishbone shaped pin that I received from the Childrens Make A Wish Foundation over 5 years ago and still wear it on my sport jackets when I go to events. They have since changed their logo and I have since received a new one, but my origional means more to me cause it was my first,,, jes sayin,,,jumpn/progolf

Here I was
thinking that you were all hard arses (not you Wendy) and you go all gooey on me!
Play it as it lies
That’s why I was smart enough not to include you.

Play it as it lies
The English compliment
is actually closer to your phrase, but I’m learning American-speak at the moment.
I figured no on would use that cuz it was
too obvious. Wrong again.
My "too obvious" reply was supposd to go
here, under Ping’s, but it jumped up. Hate when that happens.
Well, I object for three reasons:
1. The Race to Dubai has been going on for exactly one year. There is no history behind it.
2. The Race to Dubai is basically like winning the money list, formerly the Order of Merit. Westwood did so in 2000. So why doesn’t he or any other former Order of Merit winner get a patch for that?
3. The Race to Dubai has very little relevance in the history of the game. Before the R2D gets a patch, every other achievement more important should.

Really, it is no big deal..
maybe he was just chuffed to have one the first one. He knows, majors are what really counts, after all, Monty won 8 order of merits but no majors.
From Westwood's website
….“Europe’s No.1 gives me greater satisfaction than when I won the Order of Merit in 2000 as back then, I was young and didn’t know what is was all about. I’d only really ever had the highs. Then I went through a low that was well documented and it has been a long way back. Sunday in Dubai was certainly the best day of my career”. Later blog confirms “greatest achievement to-date”.
I still don’t understand why you assumed he was asked to wear it rather than having it made up for himself. You may be right of course, but he’s obviously proud of it either way.
Ryan
Maybe he likes the way it looks. Maybe he likes the color. Order of Merit has no patch to give out , hence Lee Westwood doesn’t have one (not his fault). Ryan , ? What ‘s wrong with him wearing it anyway ? Why does it bother you so much ? Would you have written the same article if TW was wearing it the following year ? just curious. Like I said earlier in this post, Make A Wish came out with a new LOGO / PIN design as they decided that the upside down wish bone was in some ways negative. I have since received 2 new ones , but because my wishbone was my first thats the one I prefer to wear as its the one I’m the most proud of…jumpn/progolf
