Our Interview With David Leadbetter About Club Fitting & Technology
On Wednesday, I was at the David Leadbetter Academy at Champions Gate in Orlando, FL, for the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Callaway Performance Center. Transformed from a garage in 45 days, the center is a modern fitting facility equipped with the latest (and some proprietary) club fitting technology.
The player hits into a projection of the 18th at Pebble Beach, all the while cameras picking up the particulars of the swing. There are two high speed cameras that allow for a player and fitter to see down the line and from the side. Two large, flat screen televisions project those images, and computer software controlling the cameras allows for replays of swings in real-time or slow motion. Additionally, all equipment used in the center is Callaway-made and contains two reflectors on each club that allow the cameras to pick up additional information about a player's swing.
Doing the honors were David Leadbetter and Callaway CEO George Fellows. Dr. Bob Winters was on hand as well. Lead officially opened the center with a ceremonial tee shot that (as the video shows) went right into the enormous sand bunker on the left of the 18th at Pebble Beach. After taking a ceremonial mulligan, David nailed one down the fairway.

Ryan.....
Must have been a cool place. Loved the projection screen, with Pebble Beach. To quote Will Smith in Independence Day…..“I gotta get me one of these.” Of course I will need to win the lottery first…..lol
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Em, that reminded me of Woody Allen's
great line: “Whether I play the lottery or not, I figure the odds of my winning are just about the same.”
Another classic, not sure by whom: “Ya know why there’s never any horse manure on the racetrack? Cuz all the horses’ asses are in the stands.”
Words to save by.
As my dear old Grandad
used to say – “the only ones following horses making any money, are the ones with the bucket and shovel picking up the shit”. Horse shit that is….
Play it as it lies
Didn't think you meant
aardvark shit, but good one, Chip. Never heard it before.
Hi TXQ. Thought I should be clear on what sort of excrement I was speaking, lest I be misunderstood. I’m a Kiwi and things tend to get ‘lost in translation’ at times.
Play it as it lies
So I guess you both
are saying not to hold my breath for winning the lottery? Bummer!
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Hah! I was just
ribbing you, Chip. (And re horse/aardvark shit, it’s good we can talk about these things.)
Even more important, what
makes you think? (J/K)
Ohmygawd Wendy,
TX bashed you again…that’s two straight posts…EM, never mind the lottery, we got ol Jumpins loot to feast on….Getting back to the article….It was posted somewhere else, that the Nike clubs submitted had a “bump” on the face near the grooves…Are all Nike clubs that way? Only for Phil?…I think all us Sherlock Holmes need to track this down and find out why the clubs were rejected, causing Phil to use the old pings…I think there is a heck of a lot more to this than just trying to make the PGA look silly…Also it was posted, that Phil is “the new face of the tour”…here we go again, hanging everything on one person…that’s garbage…IT’S THE TOUR itself everyone should be focused on…Phil himself said as much, when he said his vacation with the family came before playing any events…some people never do get it…STUB
Stub.......I've already
spent the loot I’m gonna win from Jumpn…….The clubs for Phil were Callaway, not the sub-standard clubs from Nike. Phil looks like he will bogey the 1st…..means he will probably shoot 64…..lol
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Ya know,
I think I’ll blame it on a “senior moment” my lapse between the Swoosh and Callaway..sorry for that…didn’t see anything regarding the grooves from anybody…sure thought 3irns, Court, Ping someone would latch on to this…STUB
Courtgolf seems to be on indefinite
leave, probably for Tigerlike reasons. Just kidding, Court, but get yourself back here, and best bring your comments with you.
