Mickelson Skipping Match Play to Spend Time With Wife & Kids
Phil Mickelson won't be playing the Accenture Match Play in a few weeks, citing the need to spend some time with his wife, who is battling cancer. He said this in his Wednesday presser before the Torrey Pines event.
"We had a couple of procedures scheduled for this off-season that got postponed for various reasons, and we had to move it into March, and this affected some of our family trips. So how this is playing out is the week of the Tucson Match Play is a week that my kids are out of school and that I'm going to end up skipping this year, not because I want to." He added, "I think it's a wonderful tournament. I love the Match Play. I love Tucson. But it was the best week for us to have a family vacation that we had to reschedule because, again, of our procedures."
Later, Mickelson indicated that he will make up for this event later in the year.
"I expect this to kind of happen a little bit throughout the year, maybe missing tournaments I would like to play or normally would play. But later on in the year I'll probably add a tournament that I hadn't originally planned on playing to kind of offset it."

Skipping match play
seems perfectly legal. It should speed up play. But don’t allow carts.
I think
Anyone who questions or is critical of Phil or any player for that matter that skips a tounament because of a family members, preventative medical proceedures, should be publicly flogged. Nobody in here has said as such but I did read comments elsewere making reference to that and that really pissed me off.
"pain is only weakness leaving the body"
He's not a......
good match player anyway. Just kiddin……family vacations, and wife’s cancer treatments are obviiously more important than golf. kudos to phil. Now quit skirting the rules, and take the Ping Eye 2 wedge out of the bag. As the new face of golf what kind of example is he setting. Aren’t you “true golf fans” appalled by this situation? Phil and the other players using that club should be ashamed. I don’t hear you?? Okay, using a 20 year old club which does not conform to the new rules, but was part of a court decision in Ping’s favor. Well this goes against the spirit, and the letter of the new V groove rules. Why aren’t “true golf fans” screaming about this situation? hmmmmmmmmmmmm…..Oh well I’ll carry the torch. Phil is wrong….but i guess the “true golf fans” will give him a pass. What?

And the beat goes on.....
I tried to watch the end of the Farmer’s Ins. Open but I fell asleep… I see Ben Crane won… Phil didn’t exactly step up and take charge. I did see an interview with Peter Kostis where he sounded a lot like Michelle Wie after a disappointing round… My timing was a little off, I know what I need to work on, the putts just weren’t going in… One time I’d like to hear, “You know Peter, I just played like crap.” In a totally unrelated issue: Not long ago, Harry Ried took a bit of flack for a quote in “Game Change” saying something like the President didn’t sound Black, except when he wanted to…. There was some discussion about what “Black” sounds like. As retired Speech Pathologist, I can tell you the American Speech and Language Association has a term for it. It’s called a non-standard dialect… Many years ago it was called sub-standard, but no more. The best expression of that dialect is now in general use in the Saints, “Who dat!” But no sportscaster will ever be skewered for using it….
Ping......Don't go bustin on my Saints.....WHO DAT!.....lol
Actually, to be totally honest, when they first started the Who Dat thing many years ago I hated it. Here the Saints (I’ve always been a Saints fan) were finally making it to the playoffs and the fans start chanting Who Dat Gonna Beat Dem Saints……crap….everyone beat the Saints, and now we were have this goofy cheer……well, over the years it has grown on me and I don’t mind it as much, and if they beat the Colts it will really get obnoxious.
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!
Now you've FINALLY explained
where/when the phrase originated.
We stick to the more prosaic “When the Saints….”
“When” they beat the Colts, Em. Don’t forget to keep it “positive” on these threads!
You folks better hope one of
dem Saints is the Patron Saint of Lost Causes.
OK, I can do this......
be positive, be positive, be positive, be positive……How about the Patron Saint of Torn Ankle Ligaments…..Feeney is POSITIVELY not looking good…..WHO DAT!
Thanks Wendy……
The Saints are in the SUPER BOWL....WHO DAT!

It took me a while to find where I’d mentioned the “Who dat” thing…. I want to make it clear, I think the saints are great for the NFL. It’s good to have a dynasty every now and then, but it gets a little tiresome. I like a stuation where anyone can win on any Sunday….the exception being the Detroit Lions…. I saw a news item that there’s a law suit dealing with the ownership of the “Who dat”…. Amazing… It was also mentioned that the term “threepeat” is a coypywrited thing. Best of luck to the Saints this Sunday. Kind of interesting that Archie Manning’s son is the opposition…. Talk about divided loyalty….
