Eight Pro Golfers Place in Top 100 List That Makes No Sense
Bloomberg Business Week put out its annual Power 100 Athletes list today. Eight golfers made the list, though the press release said that Tiger Woods and eight other golfers made the list.
Predictably (before the accident), Woods is number 1. Predictably (after the accident), he probably won't hold that spot in 2010's list.
The criteria for Woods' placement at numero uno was actually based on a partially false pretense, including a supposed deal that Tiger inked with AmEx in '09. They actually ended their relationship. Oh well.
Here are all of the golfers that made the list and a few words about why they made Business Week's list.
1. Tiger Woods - Well, until the hydrant problem, I suppose.
3. Phil Mickelson - He's Tiger's rival and likable. Tiger isn't?
50. Jim Furyk - Slow and steady yields millions in endorsements.
56. Lorena Ochoa - She's the #1 player. A great reason? Or reason enough?
65. Stewart Cink - Cause he has a million Twitter followers. Seriously.
73. Padraig Harrington - They say companies take note of his lack of fear with Woods, not his snowmen.
81. Sergio Garcia - Everyone loves this guy. He's annoying and full of unfulfilled potential.
84. Vijay Singh - Has a strong work ethic and is loyal to sponsors, including those under federal investigation.

Huh? I Hope This Was Comedy
“Phil Mickelson – He’s Tiger’s rival and likable. Tiger isn’t?”
Not right now, at least from an endorsement point of view.
The world may well forgive him over time, but he is poison to a marketing campaign at the moment.
Padraig Harrington – They say companies take note of his lack of fear with Woods, not his snowmen.
He also has the highest q-rating of anyone on the European Tour. Last I checked, “the world” is larger than the US and includes places like Great Britain and Ireland — which are not rocks in the North Atlantic populated by ne’er-do-wells. Harrington is money there, and he’s not so bad over here. Snowmen or no snowmen on the golf course, Harrington is a refreshingly likeable, bright and candid guy who just so happens to have a couple of majors in his win column.
Sergio Garcia – Everyone loves this guy. He’s annoying and fun of unfulfilled potential.
Love or hate Sergio, he draws the eyes, especially those of golf fans like Patricia Hannigan. Golf Girl is not alone in her liking Sergio, he has a number of fans that love him win or lose.
