Bob Hope Classic, Monday Finish - Game Thread

The leaders in the 51st Bob Hope Classic tee off at 1pm ET.  The final group is a threesome of co-leaders Alex Prugh and Bubba Watson, as well as Bill Haas.

This is the third Monday finish in the history of the Hope.

Early on, the only guy to make a move is Graham DeLaet - WHO? - who is three-under through four holes.  DeLaet earned his card through Q-school but had only ever made two PGA Tour starts in the '07 and '09 Canadian Open.

Ryan

Are they going to get the fantasy site fixed, or is the 5th round a wash out?

here's some trivia I didn't know...

…apparently Tim Clark has the patent on the draw. does he get royalties when anybody turns a ball right to left ?

You take everything so literally, CG.

Tim Clark

Watch out, he’s getting hot also. Gonna be hard to beat Kuch if he keeps that up. Looks like it’s going to be a great finish and worth the 17.00 up-charge I had to pay the hotel to get TGC. YIKES

I don't know

what your complaining about EM…Da Saints came through for you….as far as this fantasy thing, as far as I’m concerned, it couldn’t get worse if the second coming was playing and I didn’t pick him….Jumpin….now I know your losing the bets to me and EM…anybody dumb enough to PAY to watch the GC is bound to lose….yukyuk,yuk,….STUB

Is this Billy Andrade on the broadcast ? I know he’s one of the new hires…and further proof that xxx Golf Channel really needs to start by hiring someone who knows talent. I like Andrade, but leaving him alone in the booth as a rookie – not a good idea even if the alternative is having Lerner with him.

True @ dumb enough STUB

I could have watched it in the noisey bar downstairs on one of the smaller TV’s over in the corner of shame. The good news is I bought my own bottle of barcardi on the cab ride over and I have a 42" TV in my room. Three drinks at the bar downstairs cost $24.00 plus tip, so you see my justification. But your correct blaaaaaaaaah @ paying to watch TGC

I'm shocked

That Tim Clark didn’t do for the green on his second shot at 18 from only 225 yards. Playing safe isn’t gonna win a tournament on Monday.

or at least lay up closer to the green for a pitch instead of an in-between shot. That green couldn’t have looked very big from 225.

I know court

a seven iron lay up,,gee wiz ,,o’h well was a good finish worth watching. I was hoping for a play off for my extra 17 bucks

Woulda worked if Clark had made that putt. I thought it was a reasonable risk-reward for him (i.e. minimal risk for more reward since Kuchar parred and Clark knew it). If Kuchar had made the birdie, Clark would have gone for the green. The best laid plans…

Anyway, it was brutal. In the fantasy I had both Watson and Haas as my A players. I played Watson.

did you hear the interview with Kuchar after the round today ? He said that first putt on 18 was 70’ long, but Shotlink had it a 90’ – that putt was nowhere near where it had to be.

Well, he did hit it 20 feet short of where he wanted, so maybe that was the problem. His caddy gave him bad footage. 8-)

I was ...

shocked too…Clark looked quick and nervous to me..I reckon he didn’t fancy the 225 shot, probably was worried about hooking it into the lake. Still should have gone for it, the best a birdie would have been was a playoff anyway. his lay up took the pressure off the rest.

by Easingwold on Jan 26, 2010 1:08 AM EST up reply actions

Very true easing

taking the pressure of the rest. Besides the fact he isn’t one that usually hooks the ball.

not true ! Nobilo said that Clark hits a “patented” draw. :-D

Good finish!

Plenty going on. A finishing par five like that helps to make a tournament exciting. Bubba must have been drawing a big breath when is second barely cleared the water. Desmond Muirhead had a great quote: “Hitting the ball into the sand is like a car crash, there’s a chance for recovery, hitting it into the water is like a plane crash.” Everybody stoked for San Diego?

After the final hole one of the announcers said,

“Did you hear what he said!!!” … as if Haas uttered something unusual. But we never found out. Oh well.

by TXQ on Jan 26, 2010 10:36 AM EST reply actions

I noticed that, too. Haas said that he didn’t know what he was supposed to do – talking about what he was supposed to do next as the winner…interview ?…scorecard ?…trophy presentation ? It was more HOW he said it that was funny.
